A second Palestinian man was also injured after allegedly being beaten during the incident.France condemned Hathalin's killing, calling it an 'act of terrorism' and urging Israeli authorities to end settler violence and ensure accountability. Irony in West, and Trump's America, accusing India of 'funding' Ukraine war
Even as US President Donald Trump has gone after India for the purchase of Russian oil, the fact remains that Europe continues to buy Russian oil and gas. Moreover, Europe has paid more to Russia for energy imports than it has given to Ukraine in aid. read more Fuga Bluemarine crude oil tanker lies at anchor near the terminal Kozmino in Nakhodka Bay near the port city of Nakhodka, Russia. In the latest episode of the Donald Trump's campaign against India, White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller has termed India's purchase of Russian oil 'not acceptable' and has clubbed India with China in supporting the Russian war on Ukraine. Miller, however, ignored two facts. Firstly, China has kept the entire Russian economy afloat by providing the country with consumer goods and absorbing its exports because of sanctions blocking its access to international market. China also provides Russia with raw materials, dual-use goods, and machinery to make weapons. It also provides drones. On the other hand, India simply buys Russian oil with no support comparable to China's. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Secondly, Europe buys Russian oil and gas as well. In fact, Europe buys so much Russian oil and gas that it has paid more to Russia for energy imports than it has given to Ukraine in aid. In 2024, European Union (EU) members bought €21.9 billion ($25.4 billion) of Russian oil and gas compared to €18.7 billion ($21.69 billion) that they allocated in aid for Ukraine, according to estimates from the Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA). 'What he [Trump] said very clearly is that it is not acceptable for India to continue financing this war by purchasing the oil from Russia…People will be shocked to learn that India is basically tied with China in purchasing Russian oil. That's an astonishing fact,' said Miller on Sunday. EU relies on Russian oil & gas — see figures Even as Trump and his supporters has threatened India with sanctions and tariffs for buying Russian oil, the fact remains that the EU does the same. Since 2022 when Russia launched the full-scale invasion of Ukraine, the EU has been the largest buyer of Russian liquified natural gas (51 per cent) and pipeline gas (37 per cent) and Turkey —a Nato member— has been the largest buyer of Russian oil products (26 per cent), according to CREA. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD Since 2022, estimates have said that EU members have paid $215–235 billion to Russia for oil, gas, and coal imports, compared to $200 billion that they have allocated or pledged in aid to Ukraine. Vaibhav Raghunandan, an analyst at CREA, told Guardian, that such a behaviour amounts to 'sending financial aid to the Kremlin and enabling its invasion'.

AAP MLA marshalled out during discussion on Operation Sindoor in Delhi Assembly
AAP MLA Sanjeev Jha was marshalled out of the Delhi Assembly on Monday (August 4, 2025) after he refused to apologise for making objectionable remarks during a discussion on Operation Sindoor. Participating in the discussion on the motion to thank the Prime Minister, Home Minister and the armed forces for Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev, Delhi Home Minister Ashish Sood said the two operations represent the new normal in response to terror attacks. "After terrorist attacks, dossiers are not sent any longer; instead, the Army is given a clear order to eliminate the enemy," he said. Mr. Sood said those questioning the two operations should be tried under sedition charges. In his speech, Mr. Jha attacked the Centre for accepting the "ceasefire" during India-Pakistan military conflict and used words that the Speaker directed to be expunged from the records. Speaker Vijender Gupta also asked Mr. Jha to tender an apology to the House. However, as Mr. Jha remained defiant, he was marshalled out on the direction of the Speaker. Mr. Jha hit out at the BJP, saying the decision of 'ceasefire' was made by U.S. President Trump and criticised the central government for accepting it. "Operation Sindoor was an opportunity to teach a lesson to the enemy and take back the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir," the AAP MLA from Burari said. The ruling BJP legislators hailed Prime Minister Narendra Modi for Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev. Operation Sindoor was launched by the Indian armed forces to avenge the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 civilians were massacred. Three of the terrorists involved in the attack were gunned down by the security forces in an encounter under Operation Mahadev at Harwan in Srinagar on July 28.
