NFL Hall of Fame Game: Trey Lance leads Chargers to blowout win over Lions

Time of India01-08-2025
The
NFL preseason
kicked off with the Hall of Fame Game in Canton, Ohio, where the
Los Angeles Chargers
decimated the
Detroit Lions
in convincing fashion on Thursday night. Both teams played in Canton for the first time since the 1990s, but it was a far more enjoyable night for Chargers fans, as they watched their team cruise to a dominant 34-7 win over the Lions.
The night opened with a moment of silence honoring the four victims killed earlier in the week in a targeted shooting at the league's headquarters in New York.

Tom Brady Took the Jets to the Tip of His Humor Twice Within 48 Hours

Robert Kraft barely misses a chance to take digs at the Jets. He's just staying true to the quintessential New England Patriots tradition. A historic rivalry spanning over 132 games so far seems quite well-rooted in every person belonging to both teams, and they are not at all ready to make it smooth. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now This week, Tom Brady has officially been immortalised outside the Gillette Stadium ahead of the pre-season game against the Commanders. Clinching six Super Bowls to his name along with 20 banger seasons, Brady absolutely deserves the crown, but 6'4''had to add some spice to it beyond the event. Tom Brady fires shots at the Jets fans once again NFL rivalries are all but bland. Constant teasing, trash talking, and social media chaffing are the most regular scenarios. When Kraft unveiled the statue during a small ceremony at Patriot Place Plaza on August 8, 2025, the protagonist of the event couldn't help chiming in and silencing the Jets once again. 'In the end, this sta͏tue isn͏'t just for ͏Pat͏s ͏fans. I͏t'll also give all ͏the ͏Jets fans something t͏o thro͏w their beers at as͏ they lea͏ve the stadium every year ,' the classic Tom Brady jeer stole the show. But guess what? Brady didn't stop at it. He took it ‌a little too far. Brady doesn't just feel at home with a ball at his legs, but he's equally invested in spearheading the future generations onto the right path. Recently, the standout Patriots Hall of Fame dished some life lessons to the youngsters and their parents through his 199 Newsletter, but he didn't forget to rub some salt in the Jets' wounds. ' As parents, we hope for many things for our kids. Just the way I hope they don't make the same mistake I did,' Braddy addressed her philosophy on hope , 'We confide in friends and relatives that we hope they settle down and have kids of their own, or that they find a well-paying job, or that they become a good person, or that they don't become a Jets fan .' Tired of too many ads? go ad free now However, apart from all the teases and taunts, Brady feels overwhelmed getting the honor at the age of 48 and couldn't hold back his heartfelt excitement for the same. Tom Brady turns emotional during his speech Remember 29-7? just a regular season record of Tom Brady against the Jets during his heyday. But it's not just about the Jets' wrath. His legacy lies far beyond. His unfathomable leadership paved the path for the teams to win multiple championships over the years. He redefined the Patriots at the helm of the NFL dynasty. "This is quite overwhelming to me," Brady articulated his emotion during his short yet impactful six-minute speech. "I feel extremely honored, deeply grateful, and, if I'm being honest, kind of old. I'm also a little surprised because usually they don't build statues until you're really old, like [Mike] Vrabel and [Tedy] Bruschi." That's how it should be. The legend for the legacy, now in bronze! Also read:

Dominique Hampton released from Washington Commanders after brutal loss to New England Patriots

(Image via Getty: Dominique Hampton) With the 2025 NFL season just days away and the next preseason game against the Cincinnati Bengals literally 10 days out, the Washington Commanders have come to a conclusion: to release their fifth-round 161st overall pick of the 2024 NFL Draft, Dominique Hampton. The brutal loss of 48-18 against the New England Patriots on August 9 likely played a role in this conclusion. Hampton only accumulated a total of five tackles! Let's dig deeper. Washington Commanders make drastic roster changes after one preseason game On August 9, the Commanders played against the Patriots. A day later, on August 11, the official Washington Commanders X account shared a long list of roster changes following just one 2025 preseason game: They have signed cornerback Essang Bassey, cornerback Antonio Hamilton Sr., and linebacker Duke Riley. They have released defensive end Viliami Fehoko Jr., cornerback Allan George, and linebacker Dominique Hampton. They have placed tackle Lucas Niang and cornerback Kevon Seymour on the Reserve/Injured List. Fans call out Washington Commanders' move of releasing their linebacker A fan shared his views about the linebacker bluntly, 'Wasted a 5th round pick…' Another fan felt, 'Not Dominique he didn't even get a chance to prove his talents 😪.' A third fan pointed out, 'Hampton looked lost out there Friday night.' A fourth fan wrote in disbelief, 'Dang Hampton got moved QUICK.' A fifth fan expressed, 'Hampton was terrible saw it coming.' A sixth fan wondered, 'One bad game and they cut Hampton?…. Something doesn't add up…unless they didn't like his habits off the field.' A seventh fan sided with Hampton, 'Not at all surprised Dominique Hampton was cut, but rather surprised they did it now. Makes me wonder if they will sign him to the practice squad when the time comes or they just cut ties completely. He was bad Friday, but he wasn't the only one.' Linebackers coach Ken Norton Jr. praised Dominique Hampton in offseason The cost of one game. The cost of one preseason game. It led the team to evict a player! Linebacker Dominique Hampton struggled to give his best in the first preseason game, despite being all-praised by the Linebackers coach Ken Norton Jr. in the 2025 offseason–'Dom has really worked hard this offseason. He's really changed his body. And he's strong, he's fast. He's really upped his ability to communicate, playing a middle linebacker. He has to do a great job of communicating. He's really upped his IQ about how to understand the defenses, because being in the middle and making different checks and calls, you have to be right. Now, when he says something, he knows it's important because everybody's listening.' Dominique Hampton stats The 25-year-old played college football for the Washington Huskies as their safety. Hampton collected 109 total tackles, seven pass deflections, and two interceptions in a total of 57 games there. In the 2024 NFL Draft, the Commanders selected Hampton. He changed his position from safety at the Huskies to linebacker at the Commanders. On May 10, 2024, Dominique signed a four-year rookie contract worth $4.33 million. He was going to earn a base salary of $960,000 in the 2025 NFL season. But in the first game of the 2025 NFL Preseason against the New England Patriots, the 25-year-old linebacker only accumulated five tackles–two solo and three assisted.
