Fresh forgery probe begins against jailed BAP MLA over academic and marital records
Jaipur: The state govt Monday hinted at a high-level inquiry into fresh allegations against Bharat Adivasi Party (BAP) MLA from Bagidora, Jaykrisn Patel, over alleged forgery of academic and marital documents.
Patel, who is currently lodged in jail in connection with the "cash-for-questions" scam, is accused of discrepancies in his election affidavit and educational records.
According to officials, he declared himself unmarried in his 2023 election affidavit, while his 2018 ration card lists him as married—raising suspicions of document manipulation. With the forged marital status, he reportedly became a beneficiary under the
Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana
in 2018.
Congress-turned-BJP's tribal leader Mahendrajeet Singh Malviya claimed that Patel mentioned a BA degree from Calorx Teachers' University, Gujarat, in 2012, while in the same year, he also claimed to have graduated from Sikkim University. "How can he acquire two degrees—one from Gujarat and one from Sikkim—in the same year? It clearly proves fraudulent intent. I will write to the Speaker and the governor to take cognisance of the matter and disqualify him," said Malviya.

He earlier represented Bagidora before vacating the seat in 2023 after joining the BJP. Patel subsequently won the bypoll.
Patel also claimed to have earned a B.Ed. degree from MDSU University, Ajmer, in 2014.
Parliamentary Affairs minister Jogaram Patel said the fresh allegations were "serious in nature" and warranted a thorough investigation. "If the allegations are found to be true, it is a serious offence that could cost the MLA his membership.
The govt will explore all legal avenues to ensure Patel is held accountable," said the minister.
The BAP, which earlier aggressively defended its MLA, has now softened its stance, stating that "law will take its course." "Even we are shocked by the new allegations. All we can say is let law enforcement agencies do their job," said Rajkumar Roat, BAP founder and MP from Banswara.
Responding to questions about how he was ignorant of Patel's marital status and alleged misuse of PMAY benefits when he considered him his close aide, Roat stated, "Our discussions were limited to the party's ideology and policies.
We are first-generation politicians, and going forward, we will be more cautious in our choices."
Attempts to reach Speaker Vasudev Devnani for comments were unsuccessful. The Congress, meanwhile, has adopted a "wait and watch" approach and has not officially responded to the fresh charges.
The BTP currently holds four seats in the 200-member Rajasthan Assembly and has been largely aligned with the Congress in recent sessions.

'Criminal betrayal of our soldiers': Congress slams Modi Govt over 'failing' to isolate Pakistan
The Congress on Saturday (June 7, 2025) alleged that the Modi government has failed to isolate Pakistan on the global stage after the Pahalgam terror attack, calling it a "criminal betrayal" of Indian soldiers and citizens. Congress' head of media and publicity department, Pawan Khera, said instead of strong action against Pakistan, China armed it with fifth-generation jets and missiles and the World Bank and the ADB gave more aid to the neighbouring country. He claimed that the UN Security Council also named Pakistan Vice-Chair of the Anti-Terrorism Committee, just days after the terror attack on Indian soil. "After the brutal terrorist attack in Pahalgam, we expected strong actions and global isolation of Pakistan, but what has actually happened? "China is arming Pakistan with 40 fifth-generation stealth J-35A fighter jets armed with cutting-edge PL-17 missiles. Azerbaijan is investing $2 billion in purchasing 40 Pakistani JF-17 fighter jets," Mr. Khera said. "The World Bank has pledged USD 40 billion for Pakistan's development. The IMF approved USD 1 billion bailout to Pakistan. Russia has signed a USD 2.6 billion agreement to rebuild a steel plant in Karachi," he said in a post on X. Khera also claimed that Kuwait and the UAE have relaxed visa rules and offered 10 billion-dollar investment deals and Pakistan has joined the China International Mediation Organization, gaining greater influence in Asian diplomacy. "The UN Security Council has named Pakistan Vice-Chair of the Anti-Terrorism Committee, just days after a terror attack on Indian soil! "This is not just a diplomatic failure. It is a criminal betrayal of our soldiers and citizens," Mr. Khera said. Another Congress leader Renuka Chowdhury said in a post that IMF gave $1 billion to Pakistan on May 9, the World Bank decided to give $40 billion to Pakistan soon after Operation Sindoor and ADB gave $800 million to Pakistan on June 3, even though the ADB president met PM Modi on June 1. "Have we failed in our Foreign Policy?" she asked. "Why are the 4 terrorists who indulged in Pahalgam carnage still alive and going around?" she said. "You are able to eliminate Naxals, but not able to eliminate these 4 terrorists, even after a month? Who is responsible for the intelligence failure? "151 tours, 72 countries, many hugs, kisses and gifts. Still no results. India needs answers," Chowdhury said. The Congress leader also said that a special session of Parliament was required to ask questions on US President Donald Trump's claims, more than 11 times, of "brokering a ceasefire" between India and Pakistan. "Why is PM Modi not denying his claim?" she asked.

Democracy doesn't need drama: BJP rebuts Rahul Gandhi's 'match-fixing' claim on Maha polls
Bharatiya Janata Party leaders strongly criticized Rahul Gandhi's claims of election rigging in Maharashtra. JP Nadda dismissed Gandhi's allegations as fabricated narratives after electoral defeats. Dharmendra Pradhan accused Gandhi of discrediting institutions due to insecurity. Chandrashekhar Bawankule questioned Gandhi's silence on voter data discrepancies during Congress's rule. BJP urged Congress to introspect instead of making baseless accusations. Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads Tired of too many ads? Remove Ads The BJP on Friday hit back at Rahul Gandhi over his "match-fixing" allegation in the Maharashtra assembly polls , calling it a desperate attempt to manufacture fake narratives after repeated electoral losses In a five-point rebuttal to Gandhi's recent article, BJP president JP Nadda said: "Instead of introspecting, he cooks up bizarre conspiracies and cries rigging.""Rahul Gandhi ignores all facts, defames institutions, and shamelessly peddles lies despite being exposed time and again," Nadda said, adding that the Congress leader was doing so because "a defeat in Bihar is certain." Democracy doesn't need drama. It needs truth," he minister Dharmendra Pradhan also criticised Gandhi's remarks, calling them part of a "predictable script-lose elections, discredit institutions, fabricate conspiracies, and portray himself as a victim of an imaginary system.""But India's democracy is far stronger than the insecurities of a dynast who refuses to accept repeated electoral verdicts," Pradhan added that if Rahul Gandhi should be worried about any rigging, "it's the kind his own party mastered for decades-from the Emergency to misusing Article 356 over 90 times to dismiss opposition governments."Echoing the sentiment, BJP's Maharashtra unit chief Chandrashekhar Bawankule accused Gandhi of selective data use."In the 2009 Lok Sabha polls, there were 7.29 crore voters. Five months later in the assembly polls, the number rose by 30 lakh. Congress was in power at both Centre and state then. Why didn't you question the Election Commission back then? Was it in alliance with Congress?" Bawankule said the Congress raised no concerns over voter figures in 2009, but is now complaining after facing defeat."Unless the Congress does serious introspection, similar results will follow," Bawankule added.
