Elderly Polish nationals found dead in Table Bay Harbour: Police investigate suspected drowning
Police are investigating the deaths of two Polish nationals discovered at Table Bay Harbour on Wednesday morning, with authorities suspecting drowning as the likely cause.
While police said they did not suspect foul play at this stage for the deaths of the couple who were both in their seventies, an inquest docket has been opened.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Andre Traut said their teams were called to the scene at the Cape Royal Yacht Club in Table Bay Harbour just after 8am.
The cause of death has yet to be determined and their identities are being withheld at this stage.
'Police were called to the Cape Royal Yacht Club in Table Bay Harbour this morning following the suspected drowning of an elderly couple believed to be Polish nationals in their seventies,' explained Traut.
'At approximately 08:15, police divers discovered the bodies of a man and a woman in the water. An inquest docket has been opened by Table Bay Harbour police to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
'At this early stage, foul play is not suspected. A post-mortem examination will confirm the cause of death, with drowning considered the most likely cause.
'Anyone with information that may assist the investigation is urged to contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111.
'The identities of the deceased are being withheld pending formal identification and notification of next of kin.'

Cullinan and Ekangala crime blitz leads to mass arrests, fines
Over 350 suspects were arrested for various crimes, including murder, attempted murder, rape and armed robbery during crime combating efforts. He stated that, 'This operation led to the detention of 30 illegal immigrants, who are currently being processed for court proceedings and possible deportation.' He said two individuals were fined for employing illegal immigrants. Van Dyk said during the operation, 1 265 individuals and 509 vehicles were searched, with 35 vehicles being tested to verify ownership. 'The operations resulted in the arrest of a total of 360 suspects for a range of criminal offences,' he said. Furthermore, he said patrols were conducted in 20 high-crime areas and premises with two second-hand dealers being inspected and fined for contravention of the Second-Hand Goods Act. 'Traffic officers provided valuable support by issuing 102 AARTO infringement notices amounting to R39 000 for various traffic-related offences.' He then said that, as part of liquor law enforcement, 10 liquor outlets were inspected, with five outlets that were shut down for non-compliance with the Liquor Act. 'Alcohol, three speakers and a fridge were confiscated,' he said. Police probe extortionists demanding R1,000 teacher 'protection fees'
Eastern Cape police are taking seriously threats by extortionists targeting teachers at a secondary school in Ngqeleni. The organised crime unit is investigating who is behind a threatening note discovered last weekend at Dalibhunga Senior Secondary School. 'The note, allegedly from an extortionist group, demands a monthly 'protection fee' of R1,000 from each teacher,' said police spokesperson Brig Nobuntu Gantana. 'Due to the serious and organised nature of the threat the case has been assigned to the provincial organised crime unit for investigation.
