Indian Oil bets big on clean energy with 10,000-tonne Panipat plant
In a major stride toward clean energy transition, Indian Oil has finalised the Levelized Cost of Hydrogen (LCOH) for India's largest
green hydrogen generation unit
at its Panipat Refinery & Petrochemical Complex, the company said in a statement on Friday.
Slated for commissioning by December 2027, the facility will produce 10,000 tonnes of green hydrogen annually — replacing
fossil-fuel-based hydrogen
currently used in refinery operations and significantly reducing carbon emissions.
"This initiative is aligned with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's
National Green Hydrogen Mission
and forms a critical part of IndianOil's broader
decarbonisation strategy
," the state-run oil major said.
The project marks IndianOil's formal entry into the green hydrogen sector and is set to be the largest such initiative in the country to date. It is expected to play a pivotal role in helping the company meet its Net Zero targets.
Indian Oil Chairman Arvinder Singh Sahney, speaking earlier this year at the World Economic Forum in Davos, said, 'The green hydrogen plant is now alive. We have got very good bids for it. And now the tenders are under evaluation. Within a month or so, we will be able to award the job, and within two years, that 10,000 tons per annum plant at Panipat will be commissioned.'

Nice (France): Welcoming African Union as a new member of the New Delhi-headquartered Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI), P.K. Mishra, Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, on Saturday said that resilience must be anchored in the very foundations of development. As the Co-Chair of the CDRI, Mishra, in his address to member countries and organisations at the Seventh International Conference on Disaster Resilient Infrastructure (CDRI) on the sidelines of the third UN Ocean Conference in Nice announced the African Union Commission is the newest member of the coalition. He appreciated how 54 members have so far joined the CDRI and are bound by a common belief that resilience must be 'embedded in the very foundations of development'. Earlier this week, the African Union Commission hosted the regional consultation on the Africa common position for disaster risk reduction in Geneva in Switzerland. Organised on the sidelines of the Global Platform 2025 for disaster risk reduction, the event brought together high-level delegations from African Union member states, regional economic communities and key development partners in a collaborative effort to refine and strengthen Africa's stance ahead of the Global Platform for disaster risk reduction high-level segment. The CDRI is a global coalition dedicated to enhancing the resilience of infrastructure systems to climate and disaster risks. With 46 member countries and eight partner organisations, it includes national governments, international organisations, and businesses collaborating to share knowledge, conduct research, and invest in disaster-resilient infrastructure. Members benefit from access to global expertise, funding, technical support, research opportunities, innovative solutions, and international best practices. Speaking on the occasion, CDRI Director General Amit Prothi said: 'Coastal resilience is vital for protecting lives and economies. ICDRI 2025 unites global voices to inform action for vulnerable coastal communities and Small Island Developing States (SIDS). Through our IRIS programme, we are supporting 24 projects across 25 SIDS, driving sustainable and inclusive infrastructure development." He said at the ICDRI, the 54-member global coalition has reaffirmed its commitment to advancing climate and disaster resilient infrastructure across Africa. Other announcements include the awarding of research grants for 53 projects spanning 21 countries, as well as a call to action for accelerating infrastructure resilience in small island nations, emphasising the urgent need for global collaboration and investment. With approximately 37 per cent of the global population residing within 100 km of the coast, contributing around $1.5 trillion to the annual global GDP, and 90 per cent of global goods transported by sea, strengthening coastal resilience is now a global priority.

Working on setting up major industries in Mandya: HDK
Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel H.D. Kumaraswamy on Saturday reaffirmed his commitment to bringing in major industries to the Mandya Lok Sabha constituency and said he will personally seek cooperation from the State government for the region's development. Speaking at the platinum jubilee celebrations of MySugar High School in Mandya, Mr. Kumaraswamy said the aspirations of Mandya's people must be realised through unity and sustained efforts. 'I was elected with the blessings of voters who transcended caste and party lines. I am committed to striving for a meaningful development of the constituency,' he said. He noted that Prime Minister Narendra Modi had entrusted him with a key ministerial responsibility, and that he is actively working towards establishing a major industry in Mandya. The cooperation of the State government is vital to make this vision a reality. Mr. Kumaraswamy highlighted recent developments, including the sanctioning of ₹4 crore for the construction of Raitha Bhavan and ₹2.5 crore for Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives. Uttarakhand: Chamoli farmers reap benefits of PM-KISAN scheme, thank central govt
Chamoli (Uttarakhand): Farmers in Uttarakhand's district of Chamoli are witnessing tangible economic improvements, thanks to the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme, a flagship initiative of the Central Government that provides direct financial support to small and marginal farmers. Under this ambitious scheme, eligible farmers receive Rs 6,000 annually in three equal installments of Rs 2,000, directly credited to their bank accounts through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). To date, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has released 19 installments under the scheme, and Chamoli has not remained untouched by its impact. According to official data, 48,664 farmers in the district are actively benefiting from PM-KISAN. The scheme has not only eased the financial burden of farmers but has also contributed significantly to agricultural productivity and self-reliance. IANS visited Chamoli and spoke with several beneficiaries to understand how this initiative has impacted their lives. Hori Lal, a beneficiary, expressed gratitude for the assistance: 'I am getting money under this scheme. I want to thank the central government. It has really helped us.' Harish Lal, another farmer, said, 'This money helps us buy seeds and pesticides. I want to thank PM Modi for bringing such a scheme to life.' Pradeep Kumar echoed similar sentiments, saying, 'I am receiving the money in regular instalments. It's a big help for farmers like us. Thank you to the Prime Minister.' PM-KISAN, launched in 2019, is designed to supplement farmers' incomes. It aims to ensure dignified livelihoods, reduce dependence on informal credit, and boost agricultural efficiency. The transparency and reliability of DBT ensure that the funds reach the intended beneficiaries on time, without middlemen or delays. The latest, 19th instalment was released in February 2025 and benefited more than 9.8 crore farmers across the country, including 2.4 crore women. Earlier, instalments were disbursed in October 2024 and June 2024. With the 20th instalment expected in June 2025, anticipation is building among farmers as the scheme continues to support their efforts on the ground. Though the official release date and location are yet to be announced, it is expected that Prime Minister Modi will again preside over the disbursement ceremony.
