Twenty million international tourists expected in current fiscal year in India: Union Tourism Minister Gajendra Singh Shekhawat
Union Minister of Culture and Tourism Gajendra Singh Shekhawat on Thursday (June 26, 2025) said that 20 million international tourists are expected to visit the country in the current financial year as diversity becomes the core of India's tourism sector.
Addressing the gathering after performing bhumi puja for the Godavari riverfront development project named 'Akhanda Godavari', on the banks of river Godavari in Rajamahendravaram on Thursday (June 26, 2025), Mr. Gajendra Singh has said: 'From the snow-laden Himalayas to sun-kissed beaches, from Yoga retreats to Sufi shrines, India offers a complete tourism ecosystem. Over the three years, India has moved up from 54th position to 39 on the World Economic Forum's Travel and Tourism Development Index.'
'At present, the country's tourism landscape is being reshaped with various flagship schemes such as Swadesh Darshan 2.0, PRASAD, Community Based Eco-Tourism and the projects being undertaken through these schemes are revitalising economies,' said Mr. Gajendra Singh. 'Tourism in India is no more about monuments and memories. It is about livelihoods and legacy,' asserted Mr. Gajendra Singh.

Tent city near Suryalanka beach to ease tourist rush
1 2 Vijayawada: In a move to promote Suryalanka beach in Bapatla district as a prime tourist location, the state govt has decided to improve the infrastructure near the beach. The tourism department is gearing up to construct a tent city to provide shelter to the visiting tourists. The existing facilities are found inadequate as they are getting packed almost three months in advance. There is heavy rush particularly for accommodation during the weekends. Taking the inadequate poor infrastructure on the beach into consideration, the tourism department has decided to go for development of tent city to create additional rooms. The tourism development corporation (APTDC) owns a resort in which 32 rooms were available. Recently, the corporation has launched work to construct another seven rooms to enhance facilities after the Union govt released about Rs 98 crore under Swadeshi Sandarshan-II scheme. The tourism department has planned several developmental works in addition to the construction of rooms for accommodation. We can't wait for months and years to provide accommodation. So, going for tent city model is quick remedy," said ourism department special chief secretary Ajay Jain. Taking the recent trend of tourists into consideration, APTDC has decided to develop a 50-room tent city. This project would be taken up in PPP model to avoid financial burden on the exchequer.

NEW DELHI: In a major push to strengthen India's maritime economy, Union minister Sarbananda Sonowal on Thursday launched the country's first sector-specific Non-Banking Financial Company (NBFC), Sagarmala Finance Corporation Ltd (SMFCL). The corporation, which was formerly known as Sagarmala Development Company Ltd, has now been registered as an NBFC with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) as of June 19, the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways confirmed. 'SMFCL will bridge crucial financing gaps and offer sector-specific financial solutions, empowering ports, MSMEs, startups, and institutions,' said Sonowal at the launch. 'This has been a long-standing demand of the maritime industry and aligns with our Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047.' A financing engine for India's maritime future As a specialised financial entity, SMFCL will offer short-, medium-, and long-term funding tailored to the maritime sector. The beneficiaries include port authorities, shipping firms, maritime startups, MSMEs, and even educational institutions focused on maritime studies. Jagan: Govt pushing state into ‘debt trap'
Vijayawada: Former chief minister on Thursday alleged that the state govt's lack of fiscal discipline and disregard for constitutional framework is pushing the state into a debt trap. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now He said the APMDC non-convertible debentures (NCDs) bonds were issued at a coupon (interest) rate as high as 9.30%, which is 2.60% higher than the prevailing SDL rate. In a post on microblogging platform X, tagging Union finance minister Nirmala Sitaraman and the PMO, Jagan alleged that APMDC concluded the second tranche of its NCD (bond) issuance at a coupon (interest) rate of 9.30% to raise 5,526 crore, taking the aggregate value of the issuance to 9,000 crore on Wednesday (June 25). He said this is second instalment of APMDC going for NCDs in violation of treasury rules. "The govt went ahead with the issuance of NCDs despite the matter being admitted by the AP high court and notices served. It is quite apparent that the proceeds of the issuance would be utilized to finance govt revenue expenditure," he said. He further stated that the TDP-led NDA govt granted private parties access to the consolidated funds of the state through RBI direct debit mandate, owing to which, private parties can access the state exchequer and withdraw funds without any requirement of any action from the govt officials. He alleged that it was a blatant violation of articles 203, 204 and 293(1) of the Constitution of India. The govt also mortgaged mineral wealth worth 1,91,000 crore for NCD (bond) issuances of aggregate value 9,000 crore, Jagan further claimed. He alleged that the additional yearly burden on APMDC is to the tune of 235 crore due to the high interest rate, and the term of NCDs is understood to be 10 years. With NCD issuance, the total budget and off-budget borrowings availed and secured in this 13-month period by the TDP alliance govt exceeded 50% of what was borrowed by the previous govt over a five-year period, the YSRCP chief alleged.
