Holiday expert reveals exact time to book your tickets for August bank holiday flights & how you can save hundreds

Set your alarms to get on board TRAVEL SAVER Holiday expert reveals exact time to book your tickets for August bank holiday flights & how you can save hundreds Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) HOLIDAY experts have revealed the exact time and date Brits should book their tickets ahead of the August bank holiday to save hundreds of pounds. It's not too late to book last-minute flight tickets for holiday trips over the August bank holiday weekend. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 1 The day and time flights are likely to be cheaper for the bank holiday has been revealed Credit: Getty Brits can still find ways to get out of the country that won't blow the budget for the weekend of August 25. This includes trips to classic European escapes and hotspots like Disneyland Paris. Ticket experts have analysed pricing data and industry travel trends. CEO of AttractionTickets, Oliver Brendon, explained: 'It's easy to assume the early bird always gets the deal. "In reality, travel companies adjust fares repeatedly based on demand, and we see opportunities appear even in the final days before departure. "There's still time to save on last-minute August bank holiday travel if you know when to book.' Brendon reveals the trick to finding value no matter how late the purchase is made. Through review of historic pricing, as well as industry reports, Sundays have been found to regularly deliver the lowest average booking prices. This is because airlines adjust seat availability and prices over the weekend. Therefore, holidaymakers who plan to book on Sundays can more often find a better deal and pay significantly less than those who book on other days. 3 tips to help you get the cheapest flights when booking holidays Furthermore, Fridays have been found to be time to avoid as it is the time when prices tend to spike due to increasing demand. A clear morning advantage has also been found through analyses. Around 6am is when the fresh fares tend to show up, so it is good to get in early before search traffic ramps up into the day. So those looking to book a getaway from the bank holiday this month should set their alarms for Sunday morning. Oliver adds 6am on Sunday, August 17 "both sit within the sweet spot before the long weekend and will give you a chance at potentially unlocking better pricing.' This timing tip comes from expert insights and data-driven research from travel and ticketing platforms. It also focused on last-minute booking trends by travellers in the UK. The advise follows suggestions from CEO of Ryanair, Michael O'Leary, who said flights could also be booked cheaper in the first two months of the year. Winter months are believed to be the best time of the year to find cheap air fares, as well as just before the peak of school holidays. Another study looked in to the best time to book flights for certain destinations. For Faro in Portugal, the cheapest flights for the summer holidays were found to be just five weeks before travelling. And for long-haul flights like to New York, the best time was found to be June to book for an August vacation.

At least 56 dead & dozens missing after Himalayan flash flooding sweeps through towns leaving them caked in mud

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) AT least 56 people have been killed and dozens more are missing after flash floods tore through a remote Himalayan village in Indian-controlled Kashmir. Officials said sudden, torrential rains triggered the disaster in Chasoti, Jammu and Kashmir – the last vehicle-accessible stop on the popular pilgrimage route to the Machail Mata temple. 'A large number of pilgrims had gathered for lunch and they were washed away,' one official told Reuters. Initial estimates suggest at least 80 people remain missing, with more feared trapped under debris, Sky News reports. Rescue teams have brought around 200 people to safety, but at least 50 of them are badly injured and receiving treatment in local hospitals. 'Army, air force teams have also been activated. Search and rescue operations are underway,' said Ramesh Kumar, the divisional commissioner of Kishtwar district. Local resident Abdul Majeed Bichoo, 75, said he saw the bodies of eight people being pulled from the mud. Chasoti, he said, had become a 'sight of complete devastation from all sides.' He added: 'It was heartbreaking and an unbearable sight. I have not seen this kind of destruction of life and property in my life.' Footage showed terrified pilgrims wading through rising water as it surged through the village. The pilgrimage, which began in July and was due to end on 5 September, has now been suspended. At least 31 nursing home residents left to drown in horror China floods - as Xi's officials make chilling admission 8 Homes and cars were all swept away by the muddy waters 8 At least 80 people are still reported missing India's deputy science and technology minister Jitendra Singh confirmed the flooding was caused by a cloudburst – a sudden downpour of more than 100mm of rain in an hour – which is becoming increasingly common in the Himalayas. Omar Abdullah, chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir, said on X: 'The news is grim and accurate, verified information from the area hit by the cloudburst is slow in arriving.' Prime Minister Narendra Modi said 'the situation is being monitored closely' and offered his prayers to 'all those affected by the cloudburst and flooding.' The tragedy comes just over a week after a similar deluge wiped out an entire village in India's Uttarakhand state. Meanwhile in China, record-breaking floods have killed at least 38 people and forced more than 80,000 from their homes. Torrential downpours battered swathes of northern China late July, including the capital Beijing, in what locals described as a 'once in a hundred years' deluge. 8 Flash floods killed at least 56 and left dozens missing in Indian-controlled Kashmir Credit: AP 8 Rescuers inspect the site of a flashflood at a village in Kishtwar district Credit: AFP Dramatic footage showed streets transformed into raging rivers, murky floodwater swallowing homes, cars and highways, and uprooted trees piled high in devastated towns. Beijing's Miyun district, northeast of the city centre, was the worst-hit, with spillways at the Miyun Reservoir roaring at their highest levels since its construction in 1959. Nearby Huairou and Fangshan districts were also inundated, while more than 130 villages have lost power. In the neighbouring city of Tianjin, over 10,000 people were evacuated, and in Hebei province a landslide killed eight people in a village near Chengde, with four still missing. On social media, residents posted anxious messages about being unable to contact loved ones in the mountainous Xinglong county. Chinese President Xi Jinping has urged officials to prepare for 'worst-case scenarios' and speed up the relocation of residents in danger zones. The government has pledged 350 million yuan (£42m) for disaster relief in nine affected regions, plus a separate 200 million yuan for Beijing alone.

Terrifying moment Boeing 747 wing smashes into runway during typhoon landing sending sparks flying

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) THIS is the horrifying moment a Boeing 747 wing crashes into the runway sending bursts of sparks into the air. The UPS cargo flight 5X61 was attempting to land at Taiwan's Taipei Taoyuan International Airport yesterday when it was struck by a vicious typhoon. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 4 This is the terrifying moment a Boeing 747 wing smashes into the runway 4 The plane tried to land three times before it was successful 4 Strong winds caused the plane to violently shake as it tried to reach the runway The jumbo jet, registered N613UP, attempted to land three times before finally touching down on the runway. It had departed from Hong Kond-Chek Lap Kok International Airport (HKG) at just before 10am UK time. Dramatic footage showed the aircraft jerking from side to side as it descended, before tipping as it slowed. Its right wing then scratched the ground sending a flurry of sparks into the air. Officials later confirmed the plane completed its rollout with no reported injuries. It did sustain serious damage to its nacelle, however, and authorities have since launched an investigation into the incident. An incident report from the Aviation Safety Network stated: "UPS flight 5X61, a Boeing 747-8F, suffered an engine pod strike during a night-time landing on runway 05L at Taipei-Taiwan Taoyuan International Airport (TPE). "At the time of arrival, strong gusting winds with windshear associated with Typhoon Podul were reported at TPE. At 11:20 UTC, the flight aborted the approach to runway 05L and executed a go-around. The aircraft was positioned for another approach, which was also aborted. "At 12:08 UTC, the aircraft landed after the third approach and taxied to the apron. Photos after the incident show a cowling had separated from the engine." This comes as hundreds of flights were cancelled in Taiwan this week due to Typhoon Podul, which swept across the country's southern region. Moment boozy Jet2 passengers are hauled off 7am flight for VAPING in their seats sparking mid-air emergency Wind speeds of over 190 kph were reported resulting in more than 8,000 residents being evacuated from their homes across eight cities. Over 110 injuries have been reported and one person remains missing. Strong winds have long been a pilot's nightmare. Over in Madeira, wobbly landings are all too familiar thanks to the island's notoriously windy weather. It has even been named as one of the world's most dangerous airports - though accidents are rare. Video from earlier this month showed the Marabu Airlines A320 being tossed around like a toy as it came in to land at the airport. The heart-stopping moment saw the plane rock side to side by strong gusts of wind as it tried to land. In the nail-biting footage a female passenger can be overhead shouting: 'It's going to come down on the top of the lorry, it's going to crash.' She can later be heard yelling: 'My God, how amazing! How lucky!'
