Trouble, Struggle, Bubble and Squeak review – a champion of eccentric hobbies and people power
But there is more going on here than a straight celebration of everyday British quirkiness. True, Melody has form in this area: she became a beauty queen to see what it was like for her pet to be entered in a dog show and spent a year living with pigeon fanciers. That is as well as the time she trained as a funeral director when she thought her dad was dying.
As a self-styled anthropologist with a 'passion for other people's passions', she has a genuine love of peculiar hobbies. Her eyes light up when she describes the lengths her new friends go to in the name of historical accuracy. But in Trouble, Struggle, Bubble and Squeak, she demonstrates an interest that goes beyond the whimsical.
For this is a story, directed by Mark Thomas, less about history buffs dressing up in old costumes and eating authentic stew, and more about people resisting authority and taking control of their environment. Having muddled up the musketeers of the English civil war with her memory of watching Dogtanian, she is fascinated to find a conflict between not only royalists and parliamentarians, but also radical groupings such as the Levellers, Ranters and, in particular, the Diggers.
The belief of this dissident group in equality and access to common land strikes a chord with Melody as she works as an artist-in-residence on the deprived Whitehawk estate in Brighton. What if the land variously threatened by developers and neglected by the council could be reclaimed by those who lived there? What if it could be achieved through a massive – if not exactly accurate – historical reenactment?
Her retelling of the tale, wide-eyed and ever delighted, is a joyful testament to people power and a heartening parable about the possibility of collective action.

Royal couple secretly welcome second baby and reveal tot's adorable name
Prince Josef-Emanuel of Liechtenstein and his wife, Princess Claudia, have revealed they welcomed their second child, who is a new addition to the Liechtenstein Royal Family A royal couple has revealed they have secretly welcomed their second child in a surprise Instagram post. Princess Claudia, the wife of Prince Josef-Emanuel of Liechtenstein, took to social media to post a string of photos of their newborn son, who was born last month. The couple, who married in 2022, were already parents to another son named Leopold - and posting snaps of their newborn online, Claudia revealed their new baby had been named Nikolai. He is a new addition to the Liechtenstein Royal Family. It comes after reports Princess Beatrice's original name was 'rejected by Queen for being too yuppie'. In one snap, the infant can be seen sleeping in a knitted yellow cardigan, while in another, he wears a blanket with the name 'Nikolai' stitched in it. A third photo showed the baby being cradled by his mum. Prince Josef-Emanuel is the son of Prince Nikolas of Leichtenstein, the brother of the country's reigning monarch, Prince Hans-Adam. His mum is Princess Maragretha of Luxembourg - the sister of Luxembourg's reigning monarch, Grand Duke Henri. He moved to the UK in his younger years, attending Sandhurst's Royal Military Academy before joining the Irish Guards. At Trooping the Colour in 2010, he was selected to present the flag of his regiment to the late Queen. Josef-Emanuel married his wife, Claudia, also known as Cloclo, a Colombian socialite, in a glittering ceremony in Cartagena in 2022, with several royals attending, including Queen Camilla's niece, Ayesha Shand. The couple's happy news comes after another royal couple also welcomed a surprise new arrival earlier this year. In January, Princess Maria Laura of Belgium and her husband William Isvy, welcomed their first child, a son named Albert. Baby Albert's arrival was something of a surprise to royal fans; Maria Laura and William did not reveal they were expecting prior to the birth. The Belgian Palace announced the birth, alongside a sweet snapshot showing the little boy lying asleep in a cream jumper. The new royal was named after his great-grandfather, Albert II of Belgium, who reigned as King from 1993 until his abdication in 2013. Baby Albert is now 11th in line to the throne, but made history as the first Belgian royal not to have been awarded a title. Princess Maria Laura is the niece of King Philippe and the second child of Princess Astrid of Belgium, Philippe's younger sister. She has been married to her husband William - a British investment banker - since 10 September 2022. They tied the knot in a civil ceremony in Brussels, followed by a religious celebration at the Cathedral of Saint Michael and Saint Gudula a day later. Maria Laura was raised away from the royal spotlight and grew up in Bazel, Switzerland, until the age of five as her father worked for an international bank. Along with her four siblings - Prince Amedeo, Prince Joachim. Princess Luisa Maria and Princess Laetitia Maria - she was raised away from royal duty and rarely appears at public engagements.

This Morning star says 'I probably pushed my luck a little bit too far' in health scare
This Morning favourite Ben Shephard opened up about a previous health scare that he experienced while on a trip in New Zealand This Morning presenter Ben Shephard once suffered a major health scare that was quite serious. The daytime star, 50, burst the capillaries around his eyes after a New Zealand stunt. For thrill-seekers like Ben, New Zealand is the ultimate playground for extreme sports and adrenaline-fuelled fun. He first discovered the country's adventurous side during a gap year from uni. However, it's his most recent trip down under that's got everyone talking. Chatting to the Telegraph about his passion for travel, Ben recalled, "The last time I was there, I had to bungee jump for a television show we were filming.' "My cameraman wanted to film me from loads of different positions, so I ended up doing four bungee jumps back to back." "When I got to the hotel that night, I saw that all the capillaries around my eyes had burst from all that pressure. I probably pushed my luck a little bit too far and got carried away, but loved every minute of it." It comes as Ben previously left fans delighted by sharing his 'bucket list moment' as he marked a special milestone. The star recently turned 50 and ever since he has been celebrating with a series of challenges he set himself. He's been keeping his Instagram followers updated along the way, as he vowed to be 'the fittest I've ever been' and attempted cold water swimming, walking 5k and braving ice baths. He later continued his celebrations with a family trip to Australia. At the time, he shared a peek into his travels with his sons, Ben wrote: ' So this is just a little bit exciting!!!! 'As part of my 50th year celebrations continue (have I mentioned I've turned 50) a proper bucket list moment, as we've just landed in Australia with the family - to support the British and Irish Lions across their tests!!!! "I'm doing a bit of work but mostly doing a lot of cheering, supporting and merch acquiring…Lions Suitcases anyone. 'Can't wait for later - thoughts on the score??? Also in Brisbane for a few days any recommends will be gratefully received!' Fans and friends alike rushed to share their support, with Loose Women 's Katie Piper writing: 'That's such a great thing to do as a family.' 'So exciting,' This Morning regular Ashley James said, while Helen Skelton wrote: 'What an adventure,' and Gaby Roslin said: 'Have an amazing adventure.' Ben proved his challenges to be as fit as he could be paid off with a shoot in May showing off his six-pack.

Most popular royal named in surprise new poll and it's not Kate Middleton
Survey site YouGov have shared the surprising results of their latest poll, in which they asked the UK public who their favourite royal family member is, with the Princess of Wales losing her top spot New polling figures have revealed who the British public's favourite member of the royal family is - and it's not who many may have thought. A survey run by YouGov has revealed that Prince William is the most popular member of the Firm in the eyes of the public, with 74 per cent of Brits having a positive opinion of the heir to the throne. Many believed Princess Kate would top the table, but instead she came in second, just 3 per cent behind her husband. The Princess of Wales was knocked off the top spot by Prince William, after Kate was crowned the most popular royal in the same poll just six months ago. It comes after reports that William and Kate's charity work will keep their royal kids from suffering from "spare syndrome". READ MORE: Prince Harry's sour rift with William poses awkward dilemma as big royal event looms William's popularity has increased over the last few years as he has taken on more royal responsibilities since the cancer diagnoses of both his father and his wife. The public has been able to see a more personal and vulnerable side of the future King, which may have contributed to his growth in popularity. In a close third place, Princess Anne, who is often dubbed the 'hardest working royal', received a 70 per cent approval rating from the public, as she has stepped up her royal duties in recent years to support King Charles. King Charles III continues to hold majority support with 59 per cent of royal fans giving him their approval, while the royal family as a whole continues to be an important part of Brits' lives, with the Firm at large receiving a 62 per cent approval. At the other end of the popularity spectrum, Prince Harry, Meghan Markle and Prince Andrew have once again pulled up last, with Prince Harry only receiving a 28 per cent vote, and Meghan even less with just 20 per cent. Unsurprisingly, coming in at last place on the list is Prince Andrew, with just five per cent of the British public having a favourable view of King Charles' disgraced brother. Prince Andrew's popularity has continued to plunge amid the dozens of damning allegations made about the Duke of York in the explosive biography Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York. The survey also concluded that the older population of Britain seems to have a more positive view on the royals than the younger generation, with the exception of Prince Harry and Meghan. Beyond the individual royals, the British public are still clear in their support of the royalty, as six in ten Britons - or 62 per cent - have a positive view of both the family as a whole and the underlying institution of the monarchy (58 per cent). This is roughly double the number of Britons holding the opposing views, with three in ten - or 30 per cent holding a negative opinion of the ruling family and 32 per cent sceptical of the monarchy. Across the board, the results of the YouGov survey have largely stayed the same since a similar poll was run in May this year.
