NBA Rising Stars: Spurs' Stephon Castle named MVP of showcase game
San Antonio Spurs rookie Stephon Castle on Friday was unanimously named the Most Valuable Player of the 2025 NBA Rising Stars Game after winning the championship in San Francisco, California.
Castle produced 12 points, three rebounds and two assists to lead Team C to a 25-14 win over Team G League to claim the title for Hall of Fame coach Chris Mullin. The team won on a 3-pointer by Keyonte George, which was set up on a cross-court pass from Castle.
Team C trailed 12-8 early but went on a timely run to down the team of G Leaguers coached by former nine-year veteran and champion Jeremy Lin. They finished the game on a 17-2 spurt, with Castle accounting for six points alone during that span.

The pool of players for the annual showcase consisted of 10 rookies, 11 second-year players and seven players from the G League. Hall of Famers Mitch Richmond and Tim Hardaway Sr. served as the other two honorary coaches and were in charge of drafting their respective teams.
Team C defeated Team T 40-34 in the first matchup of the evening on a game-winning jump shot by Castle. George paced the group with 10 points in that contest, while Dalton Knecht had seven points and Castle added six points, four rebounds and four assists.
Team C will now advance to play Sunday in the All-Star Game, which features a similar four-team, three-game tournament for the first time. They will face the team drafted by Shaquille O'Neal in the semifinal, headlined by LeBron James, Stephen Curry, Kevin Durant and James Harden, among others.

Gradey Dick led all scorers in the game with 12 points and one assist, while Tristan da Silva had five points and Zaccharie Risacher, Jaime Jaquez Jr. and Black each added four points. Alexandre Sarr had three points and Brandin Podziemski rounded out the scoring with two points.

A Lucky Seven List Of All-Time Rangers Hustlers
If you are enjoying the Stanley Cup Final, by now it must be apparent that the Panthers and Oilers have HUSTLE written all over them. Special Kudos to aging vets Corey Perry of Edmonton and Brad Marchand of Florida. Advertisement Over the years, the Ranger roster was sprinkled with Marchand-types who never stopped skating. The Maven's All-Time Rangers hustlers appear here in Chronological time: The Best Rangers Hustlers On The Team Currently The Best Rangers Hustlers On The Team Currently Enough with the talk about the deadwood core. Here's a short list of The Maven's favorite TRY HARD GUYS. 1. PHIL WATSON: It wasn't that "Phiery Phil" set up the 1940 Stanley Cup-winning goal for New York in 1940, but that didn't hurt. Watson's big mouth churned away as fast as his skates. Phil never wore a sign that read: BATTERIES NOT INCLUDED! 2. DEAN PRENTICE: Shamefully, the Hockey Hall of Fame has ignored one of the most consistent left wingers in history. Hall Of Fame right wing Andy Bathgate would have been the first to claim that Dean's hard work led to AB's HOF nomination. Advertisement 3. ANDY HEBENTON: GM Muzz Patrick's greatest discovery, Hebby was toiling with Tacoma in the Western League when Muzz signed him as a winger for the 1955-56 season. Andy scored a huge OT goal for New York and became an NHL iron man. 4. RED SULLIVAN: Nobody in Sully's time had more go-go in his system than the center who would become captain. Red was a ferret on the spoor of a hot puck and one of his other favorite targets was the Habs goalie; whenever Jacques Plante wandered. 5. LARRY POPEIN: Before Bathgate became a superstar, Andy needed a crafty center to help launch his career. "Pope" was the perfect pivot; as well as a superior skater who "read" Bathgate's moves as well as any. 6. JOHNNY WILSON: Once the dynamo behind Gordie Howe and Ted Lindsay on the Dynastic Detroit Red Wings, Wilson – yet another iron man – was a hero on the 1961-62 Ranger club that made the playoffs under player-coach Doug Harvey. 7. NICK MICKOSKI: Groomed with the Rangers Eastern Amateur Hockey League's New York Rovers, "Bashful Nick Ready Top Click" wore his number 11 proudly. The Winnipeger's hustle did not result in any All-Star nominations but the fans – Maven included – loved the guy!

Chet Holmgren Is On The Hot Seat After Game 1 Stinker Against Pacers
Chet Holmgren Is On The Hot Seat After Game 1 Stinker Against Pacers originally appeared on Fadeaway World. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and the Thunder got their hearts broken in the final seconds of Game 1 in the NBA Finals as Tyrese Haliburton nailed a mid-range game-winner to seal the Pacers' 111-110 win. The Thunder led the game from the tip-off until there were 0.4 seconds left on the clock, and were major favorites to win the game. Advertisement One of the reasons why they were considered favorites to win this series was not just because of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander but the Thunder's 'Big Three', i.e, Gilgeous-Alexander, Jalen Williams, and Chet Holmgren. While Williams and Gilgeous-Alexander have had a consistent Playoff run this season, Holmgren's has been a bit of a roller coaster. He had two 20-point+ games in the Grizzlies series, none in the Nuggets series (mainly due to Jokic's matchup), three in the Timberwolves series, and has started with a 6-point game against the Pacers in Game 1. The former No. 2 pick in the NBA Draft has averaged 15.8 points, 8.4 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks in 17 games of the 2025 playoffs so far. Holmgren went two of nine from the floor and did not make a single three-point shot in the game. Several fans, along with troll account admins, went on social media to put Holmgren in a 'hot seat' and criticize his Game 1 performance. "Chet Holmgren, you are disappointing," wrote an NBA fan on X. Advertisement "Chet Holmgren should not be able to fly under the radar for being ASS on the big stage," wrote another unhappy fan on X. "Chet Holmgren if he wasn't 7'1" was the caption of a meme that showed Holmgren as a McDonald's worker. "Chet Holmgren is 8ft tall for nothing, WTF" wrote another surprised basketball fan on X. "Chet Holmgren pulled up like this just to go 2/9 and get benched in crunch time," wrote BricksCenter, a satirical rip-off of SportsCenter meant to be a troll account. Shaquille O'Neal: Not Impressed With Chet Holmgren Earlier this week, Shaquille O'Neal went on the Pivot Podcast and gave his honest opinion about the Thunder. He blamed the NBA media for hyping up Holmgren too fast before he reached star status and is currently a role player at best. Advertisement 'We're all responsible for this, we give away too many titles sometimes. They got a big two, that mo***rf***ker Jay Dub is serious, he can play. The other guy's just a role player, stop it… But he's a great role player. He's a Horace Grant or Tony Kukoc, not taking away, but he's not a big three, stop it, stop it'. O'Neal believes that Holmgren is yet to prove that he is a part of a 'Big Three' in Oklahoma. Meanwhile, Anthony Edwards, during their series with the Timberwolves, called Holmgren the game-changer for the Thunder. Therefore, a lot of expectations are riding on Holmgren's shoulders. Next summer, Holmgren will be up for an extension. His performance in this series and the next season could decide how big a contract he gets from the Thunder. Since he will be competing with Williams for contracts expected to be in the range of $240 million+ and more, depending on factors like All-NBA selections. Will Holmgren be able to turn things around after a rough start against the Pacers? Or will Myles Turner be too tough a match-up for him, like Jokic was? It will be interesting to see what lies ahead for Holmgren.
