Doechii had just a little anxiety about her first Met Gala.
And she's in a space to joke about it. Following the backlash she received after she was heard yelling for more umbrellas before leaving The Mark Hotel to attend the May 5 event, the 'What It Is' musician explained herself.
In a TikTok video shared May 7, the 26-year-old slowly backs away from the camera while holding up her hands as 'Easy' by The Commodores plays. Poking fun at the moment, the caption over the video read, 'God forbid a girl needs more umbrellas.'
Further elaborating, Doechii wrote a longer caption under the video.
'All jokes aside this was such an overstimulating night,' the 'Denial Is a River' rapper wrote. 'But I wouldn't trade it for the world! This was the night we all dreamed of and my team killed it (umbrellas aside).'
Doechii's comments were filled with support as one user quipped, 'God forbid a girl finally makes it to THE MET GALA cut my girl some slack frrrr.' JT from The City Girls related to the moment, writing, 'That was anxietyyyyyyy! Big night! Your debut! Getty was there, I get it! You ate!'

Doechii's viral pre-Met Gala moment sparked chatter before she arrived on the carpet. In videos shared on social media, the 'Egypt' rapper is heard yelling for more umbrellas as she stands in a box—hoping to conceal her outfit from the crowd and the rain outside of the hotel. Eventually, her team gathers more umbrellas and she is pushed outside into a sprinter van.
Making her debut at the gala, the Grammy winner rocked a custom short suit designed by Pharrell Williams for Louis Vuitton. Tailoring the look specifically to her, the rapper sported a perfectly crafted afro, custom LV gold fronts and a cigar.
Doechii further explained her reaction and expressed her gratitude for evening in a message on her Instagram Story.
'And all jokes aside I'm so proud of my glam team and the LV team for an incredible night,' she wrote May 7. 'We've been dreaming about this Met for a long time and the theme this year is in such alignment with who I am what I stand for. It's nothing but God that this year was our debut.'
'Everyone killed it,' she continued. 'We nailed the theme. And a time was had.'

In 2019, Braun bought the label that released Swift's first six albums, Big Machine Records. This prompted the artist to begin rerecording her early albums as a way to regain control of her music. Braun subsequently sold Swift's original recordings to a capital investment firm and she had been trying to reacquire them since. Excited fans celebrated Swift's victory, which included many users on TikTok sharing videos (archived, archived, archived) of a special bracelet they'd taken home from Swift's "Eras Tour" — a career-encompassing stadium tour in which Swift performed songs from all of her "eras" — seemingly lighting up in celebration. The claim is false. As one TikTok video (archived) pointed out, the bracelets can be activated by removing a plastic tab on the side of the device and deactivated by replacing it. Remote activation of the bracelets requires proximity to a console that controls smart lights. Snopes reached out to Swift's management and the creators of the device, a company called PixMob, for comment. The wristbands are meant to sync with other production effects during a show, providing something of a light show using the audience members, as shown below. DMX technology is short for Digital Multiplex, which is "the standard digital communication protocol that is used to remotely control intelligent lighting fixtures," according to stage lighting company Stage Electrics. Typically this is controlled from a console plugged directly into lighting equipment, but PixMob's use of infrared wireless technology is what allows it to control the lighting effects of its wristbands. However, the range of infrared technology is limited, which is why it works within a stadium during the performance but would not be able to be controlled as remotely as the claims assert. Put simply, think of it as the remote control of a television being out of range. PixMob created similar experiences for artists including Coldplay, Shakira and Bad Bunny as well as sporting events such as the 2024 Olympic Games and the 2025 Super Bowl.
