Draymond Green is certainly one of the most talked-about NBA stars who is currently playing for the Golden State Warriors. Miami Heat legend Dwyane Wade has recently shared his honest thoughts on Green's career prospects and playing style.
Wade asserted that Green is not a typical player, as he does not put much force into uplifting his individual prowess; rather, he has been a key to the Golden State Warriors' winning strategy.
Dwyane Wade explains why Draymond Green is one of the most valuable players
Draymond Green has long been one of the league's most polarizing figures. At 35, he is still viewed by many as a villain on the court, but his résumé speaks for itself, four NBA championships, a Defensive Player of the Year award, and nine All-Defensive Team selections.
Beyond the accolades, Green's partnership with Stephen Curry defined the Golden State Warriors' dynasty.
Dwyane Wade recently took time on his Wy Network podcast to reflect on Green's career, offering a candid assessment of what makes the forward unique.
'I just think that if someone wants to argue about Draymond's individual ranking, they just want to argue,' Wade said.
'...Draymond Green's career would not be talked about him as an individual player.
It would be talked about him as a winner, as a team player, as a leader, all these things. Like, if you're a Draymond fan, you can't care what Draymond is ranked as an individual player because he doesn't go out with that individual mentality.'
Of course, Green's greatness isn't measured by box score numbers. He sacrifices shots, embraces defensive assignments, and provides the emotional backbone of the Warriors. His fiery nature has caused controversy at times, but even those moments underline his competitive drive.
Steve Kerr
once called Draymond Green the best defender he has ever seen
While Wade spotlighted Green's leadership and team-first mentality, Golden State head coach Steve Kerr highlighted his defining defense trait. After a pivotal Game 4 playoff win over Houston, Kerr didn't hold back his admiration.
'He's the best defender I've ever seen in my life,' Kerr said, pointing to Green's critical stop against Alperen Sengun late in the fourth quarter. Despite playing with five fouls, Green held his ground and allowed Jimmy Butler to grab the rebound that sealed the win.
Kerr praised Green's ability to play 'on the line' — aggressive, emotional, yet controlled enough to avoid costly mistakes. Comparing his defensive reliability to Curry's offensive trust, Kerr admitted that Green is central to the Warriors' success.
The coach also noted how Butler's midseason arrival gave players like Brandin Podziemski more space to flourish, but it was Green who anchored the defense and set the tone when it mattered most.

Now, it would be interesting to see how Green sets foot on the court in the coming season. Regardless, he will be chasing the team's win once again, rather than his individual score record.

John Wall, ex-Washington Wizards' star guard, hangs boots after 11 NBA seasons

Washington Wizards' former star guard John Wall on Tuesday announced his retirement after 11 NBA seasons, reported CBS Sports, adding, he last played for the Los Angeles Clippers during the 2022-23 season. Taking to X, Washington Wizards wrote, 'One of our franchise all-time greats. The definition of an era. A lasting legacy. A forever Wizard. Congratulations on your retirement, @JohnWall.' Wall was picked by the Washington Wizards for the first time in 2010 and spent the first nine seasons of his NBA career with them. Following this, he was traded in 2020 in a blockbuster deal with the Houston Rockets that saw Russell Westbrook sent to the Wizards. He finished his career with an average of 18.7 points, 8.9 assists, 4.2 rebounds and 1.6 steals. In his rookie campaign, Wall averaged 16.4 points, 8.3 assists, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.8 steals. He inished second in the league's Rookie of the Year Award behind then-Clippers star Blake Griffin, added the report. Wall helped Wizards end up to the playoffs in four of his nine seasons and also assisted the franchise reach the Eastern Conference semifinals in two of those campaigns. In his NBA career, Wall also dealt with an abundance of injuries which slowed him down. Due to his knee issues in multiple seasons, he was limited to 41 or fewer games in his final four seasons. From January–April, he was named Eastern Conference Rookie of the Month and finished second in Rookie of the Year voting behind unanimous selection Blake Griffin. He was also named to the NBA All-Rookie First Team. Later in 2022, Wall signed a two-year, $13 million deal with the Clippers. However, he logged 34 games in his lone campaign in Los Angeles. Following this in 2023, he was traded back to the Rockets in February in a three-team trade which involved the Memphis Grizzlies. The former Washington Wizards star left the sport as the fourth-highest leading scorer in Wizards history with 10,879 career points and only trails Elvin Hayes (15,551), Bradley Beal (15,391) and Jeff Malone (11,083), reported CBS Sports. According to the data compiled by CBS Sports, Wall was a five-time All-Star, a member of the All-NBA Third Team (2017), a member of the NBA All-Defensive Second Team (2015), and won the NBA Slam Dunk Contest in 2014. In 2009-10, he also earned SEC Player of the Year and a member of the All-SEC First Team. Wall was also named the SEC Tournament MVP that season. He led Kentucky to an Elite Eight appearance as a No. 1 seed in the first season under legendary coach John Calipari, added the report.
