AIADMK, TVK condemn government over lack of connectivity to Kilambakkam bus terminus
CHENNAI: AIADMK general secretary Edappadi K Palaniswami and TVK deputy general secretary CT R Nirmal Kumar criticised the DMK government for failing to provide adequate buses to and from Kilambakkam bus terminus, causing hardship to commuters, especially during the ongoing festival weekend.
In a post on social media, Palaniswami alleged the terminus is a glaring example of the administrative inefficiency of the DMK regime. 'For the past three days, people travelling from Chennai to their native towns have suffered immensely due to inadequate bus services. The terminus was inaugurated without proper planning, and the situation continues to be chaotic even after one-and-a-half years,' he said.
He slammed the state government for failing to anticipate the surge in passengers due to Bakrid, Muhurtham days, and the extended weekend.
Echoing similar concerns, TVK's Nirmal Kumar said the state government had hurriedly opened the Kilambakkam terminus without providing adequate connectivity. 'There is still no sufficient bus or rail connectivity from various parts of Chennai to the new terminus, forcing passengers to face hardship,' he alleged.
He urged the government to operate additional buses, particularly during festival seasons, to ease the suffering of the public.

Stalin is daydreaming of DMK-led coalition winning over 200 seats in 2026 Assembly polls. Addressing party cadre at Arakkonam MLA S. Ravi's son's wedding in Arakkonam, Mr. Palaniswami said Mr. Stalin has been saying that the DMK-led coalition will win more than 200 Assembly seats in the upcoming election next year. 'He (Mr. Stalin) is day-dreaming about it. It is AIADMK -led front that will form the next government in the State after the 2026 polls. More political parties will be joining the AIADMK coalition soon, strengthening its alliance,' he said. Taking credit for creation of new districts in Tamil Nadu and other welfare measures, the former Chief Minister said during the AIADMK regime between 2016 - 2021, six new districts were formed in the State. Districts like Ranipet and Tirupattur were formed after bifurcating Vellore. Such a formation has helped to focus on backward areas in the newly-formed districts. 'During the AIADMK regime, 11 new medical colleges, six law colleges and additional engineering and agricultural colleges were opened in the State. On the contrary, DMK is pasting stickers on those schemes and re-introduces them as new schemes,' he said. The AIADMK supremo wondered what happened to the poll promises made by DMK during its campaign in the 2021 elections. For example, he said, the DMK promised to voters that when the party (DMK) comes to power, steps will be taken to construct new check dams to a tune of ₹2,000 crore in Tamil Nadu. 'How many new check dams has the DMK government built so far in the State? Every monsoon, a huge quantity of excess rainwater goes unutilized as the water flows into the sea,' he said. Mr. Palaniswami blamed DMK government for dumping its pro-poor and farmers welfare schemes like Amma clinics and kudimaramathu scheme where farmers were allowed to remove silt deposited in ponds and lakes in the area. The scheme has twin benefits, namely it helps to deepen waterbodies to store excess rainwater and secondly farmers can use silt to enrich their farmland, he said. The AIADMK leader said that 3,460 government students in Tamil Nadu were able to pursue medicine currently because of the AIADMK initiative where it introduced 7.5% horizontal reservation for students of government schools in medical admissions, which is being implemented since the 2020-21 academic year, he said. On the occasion, former AIADMK Minister and Tirupattur district in-charge for AIADMK K.C. Veeramani, party functionaries and cadre were present.

AGP announces Birendra Prasad Baishya as party candidate from Assam for upcoming RS polls
Guwahati (Assam) [India], June 8 (ANI): The Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) announced Birendra Prasad Baishya as its candidate for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections from Assam. Baishya is currently serving as a member of the Rajya Sabha, with his tenure set to expire on June 14. Earlier this week, the Election Commission of India (ECI) on Monday announced the schedule for conducting biennial elections in eight Rajya Sabha seats, six from Tamil Nadu and two from Assam. On Saturday, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) named Kanad Purkayastha, son of former Union Minister and Assam State BJP co-founder Kabindra Purkayastha, as its candidate for the Rajya Sabha election in the state. The two upper house members from Assam, Mission Ranjan Das (BJP) and Birendra Prasad Baishya (Asom Gana Parishad), are set to retire on June 14. According to ECI, the elections for the Rajya Sabha seats will be held on June 19 between 9 AM and 4 PM. Counting of votes will be conducted on the same day. In Tamil Nadu, Anbumani Ramadoss (Pattali Makkal Katchi), M Shanmugam (DMK), N Chandrasegharan (AIADMK), M Mohamed Abdulla (DMK), P Wilson (DMK), and Vaiko (MDMK) are set to retire on July 24. Earlier, Makkal Needhi Maiam (MNM) Chief Kamal Haasan filed his nomination for the Rajya Sabha from Tamil Nadu in the presence of Chief Minister MK Stalin. Meanwhile, BJP leader H Raja criticised MNM President Kamal Haasan, saying that the actor-turned-politician has 'mortgaged' his party to the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) in exchange for a Rajya Sabha seat. 'Everyone knows what Kamal Haasan did in the past. He opposed the DMK's freebies and corrupt rule. He even said he would never form an alliance with the DMK. Now, out of embarrassment, he has mortgaged his torchlight election symbol to the DMK in exchange for a Rajya Sabha seat. It is a waste of time to talk about him,' Raja said. In the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, each candidate requires a minimum of 34 votes to clinch a Rajya Sabha seat. Political slugfest erupts in Rajasthan after 9,350 goats sent to Gulf for Eid
JAIPUR: A fresh controversy has erupted in Rajasthan just around the occasion of Eid ul Azha (Bakrid), as 9,350 goats have been exported from the state to Gulf countries via air cargo — a first for the desert state. Goats, belonging to the Shekhawati, Sirohi, and Bikaneri breeds, have been sent for ritual sacrifice, triggering a heated political exchange between the ruling BJP and the Opposition. Animal Husbandry and Devasthan Minister Zoraram Kumawat expressed concern over the export. 'Eid ul Azha may be important for any religion, but in our culture, animal sacrifice is not acceptable. These animals are not just livestock; they are a source of livelihood for breeders and contribute to Rajasthan's GDP,' Kumawat said. When asked if the government plans to restrict goat sacrifice during Bakrid, the minister clarified, 'There is no such plan at the moment. But killing animals is wrong.' His remarks invited a sharp rebuttal from Leader of Opposition Tikaram Jully, who accused the BJP of communal bias and double standards. 'The BJP only sees goats during Bakrid but remains silent on cow protection and beef exports. India is the world's top beef exporter today, but BJP leaders don't talk about that,' the Congress leader said. Taking a jibe at Kumawat, Jully added, 'The minister is a good man, but he has been misinformed. If he had seen the actual data, he wouldn't have made such a statement.' The Leader of Opposition also alleged that the BJP is once again trying to stoke religious sentiments. 'They use cows and goats as tools to divide communities. First ban beef exports, then talk about goats,' he said. The issue has quickly gained traction on social media, with religious and cultural organisations weighing in. Some criticized the government for allowing the export, while others condemned the political narrative being built around the festival. Each of the cargo flights to the Gulf transported between 450 and 950 goats, with individual shipments weighing between 500 kg to 15,000 kg. The first consignment departed on May 1, marking the beginning of this year's export activities. The increasing frequency of direct flights from Jaipur to Gulf destinations is positioning the city as a pivotal hub for the export of sacrificial goats.
