NDMC launches ‘Delhi Ko Kude Se Aazadi' swachhta campaign in Lutyens Delhi
New Delhi, Aug 1 (PTI) The NDMC on Friday launched a month-long cleanliness campaign themed 'Delhi Ko Kude Se Aazadi" from Shaheed Bhagat Singh Place, Gole Market, marking the start of Independence Day celebrations.
New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) chairperson Keshav Chandra flagged off the campaign, aimed at promoting cleaner surroundings and civic responsibility, in the presence of senior officials, sanitation workers, RWAs and market associations, an official statement said.
Speaking at the event, Chandra said, 'This campaign is not just about cleaning our surroundings — it is a tribute to our national heroes in the Independence Day month and a reaffirmation of our collective responsibility towards our duties for the nation." 'Let us make New Delhi not only cleaner but a model capital city that reflects the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and the spirit of 'Swachh Bharat'," he added.
Underlining Mahatma Gandhi's vision of a clean and prosperous India, this initiative will continue till August 31 and involve multiple activities across the NDMC departments, schools, hospitals, parks and marketplaces.
These include in-house office cleanups, clean campus drives, sanitation checks, awareness sessions and digital campaigns.
As part of the launch, Chandra led a sanitation drive and inspected cleanliness efforts in the Commercial Department offices at Shaheed Bhagat Singh Place.
The day also witnessed the government staff cleaning their own offices, school students conducting clean campus drives and healthcare staff leading sanitation work in the hospitals and dispensaries.
Special drives will be held in the coming days in the residential areas and markets in collaboration with the RWAs and trader associations. Painting, slogan and essay competitions will also be organised in the NDMC schools, while a 'Clean My City" march involving sanitation workers, volunteers, teachers and doctors is also on the agenda.
The NDMC chairperson urged citizens from all walks of life to actively take part in the campaign and help transform cleanliness into a 'nationwide movement of pride and empowerment". PTI MHS AS AS

A bizarre string of fake applications in Bihar amid electoral roll revision drive continues, with the latest being an online request for a residence certificate in the name of US President Donald Trump. Authorities have rejected all such applications and lodged FIRs. In Trump's case, the application submitted on July 29 claimed he was a resident of Hasanpur village in Mohiuddin Nagar block, with a passport-style photo and even his actual parents' names — Frederick Christ Trump and Mary Anne MacLeod — listed, reported news agency PTI. The district administration rejected the application on August 4 and called the act a 'diabolical attempt' to disrupt the ongoing SIR drive. 'It appears there is a diabolical attempt to negatively impact the special intensive revision of electoral rolls which is underway as per the instructions of the Election Commission,' the administration said in a statement, as cited by PTI. The Samastipur district administration confirmed that a case has been registered at the Cyber Police Station for appropriate investigation. 'In view of the seriousness of the offence, a case has been lodged at the Cyber police station, Samastipur, for appropriate investigation and action,' the statement added. Opposition leaders slam electoral roll revision The incident has drawn strong reactions from the Opposition. Congress leader Randeep Singh Surjewala shared a news clip on social media that falsely claimed a certificate had been issued to the Trump application. 'This is the biggest proof that electoral roll revision in Bihar is a fraud, aimed at stealing votes. The Congress and Rahul Gandhi are fighting to thwart this design. Keeping quiet in such a situation is a crime. Let us all raise our voices and become watchdogs of democracy,' Surjewala said. The administration clarified, saying, 'The certificate has never been issued. Somebody has deliberately made such an application and it was rejected during scrutiny. An FIR has also been lodged. The guilty will not be spared,' the response read. Trinamool Congress MP Mahua Moitra also criticised the Election Commission, mocking the process, she shared a video on 'X'. 'An exercise which the Election Commission has put its stamp on, which says it is comprehensive and it is accurate. Why don't you decide for yourself? We have in the district of Samastipur, an online application in the name of Donald Trump,' Moitra said. She further said the ongoing SIR was 'nothing but an exercise in mass disenfranchisement', claiming 65 lakh voters had been deleted without proper discussion. 'These forms are including mythical or animal photos and clearly made up names and addresses. The Lord Ram application lists Raja Dashrath and Maa Kaushalya as the parents... So this is the state of the SIR application,' Moitra added, referring to similar fake entries found in Khagaria district. (With PTI inputs)

Shinde meets Modi, Shah, refutes suggestions of Mahayuti trouble
MUMBAI: Shiv Sena chief Eknath Shinde, who visited Delhi on Wednesday to meet prime minister Narendra Modi and home minister Amit Shah, rejected rumours that he was there to sort out his issues with his Mahayuti allies. Maharashtra's deputy chief minister said that he and his family members went to congratulate Modi on the success of Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev, and he later had a separate one-on-one meeting with him. Speaking at a press conference, the politician showered fulsome praise on Modi and Shah, saying that Shah had just become the longest-serving home minister in the history of India, completing an uninterrupted term of 2,258 days. 'We met him to convey our heartfelt congratulations,' he said. Shinde called Shah's leadership 'decisive' and stated that from abrogating Article 370—thereby fulfilling the dream of Bal Thackeray—to leading Operation Mahadev against terrorism and effectively curbing Naxalism, the home minister had shown 'unwavering commitment and visionary leadership'. 'From cooperative development to national security, his contribution has been exemplary,' he gushed. The deputy CM took a snipe at the Thackeray cousins Raj and Uddhav when asked about a possible alliance between the two. 'So what will happen if the two come together?' he asked. 'People don't vote for names but for accomplishments. They don't vote for people who sit at home. Parties have a right to get into alliances but the people decide whom to vote for.' There were some questions on Thackeray attending the opposition alliance INDIA meet on August 7 but Shinde refused to answer them. The Shiv Sena chief announced that his party had extended its unconditional support to the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) for the upcoming vice-presidential election. He affirmed that his party remained one of the oldest and most trusted allies of the NDA.
