
Sridhar Babu urges PCB to work with CII-GBC to coax more cos to go for GreenCo ratings
Hyderabad: Telangana's industries & IT minister Duddilla Sridhar Babu has urged the pollution control board and the CII Green Business Centre to work in tandem and encourage more companies to go in for GreenCo ratings.

He said this while delivering his address at the GreenCo Summit 2025, which was conducted by the CII GreenCo Council on the theme `Beyond Commitments: Scaling Net Zero for 2030 and Beyond' in the city on Thursday.
He said Telangana's progressive policies are aimed at accelerating cleantech adoption, promoting resource efficiency, and enabling innovation-led sustainable growth.
"We are determined to be at the forefront of India's green transformation, and we view the GreenCo platform as a key partner in advancing this shared vision," he said.
CII Sohrabji Godren Green Business Centre chairman Jamshyd N Godrej said: Today, we stand at a pivotal juncture where sustainability is not merely compatible with profitability – it is essential to it."
"GreenCo and other councils of CII-Godrej Green Business Centre in Hyderabad have been at the forefront of this transformation—helming India's green movement and shaping sustainability benchmarks that inspire action across sectors," he added.
CII vice president Dr Suchitra K Ella said "Sustainability is no longer optional—it is fundamental to building resilience, enhancing reputation, and creating long-term value. The GreenCo framework offers a practical and credible blueprint for industries to make this transition with integrity, accountability, and measurable impact."
CII GreenCo Council and GreenCo Summit 2025 chairman Pradeep Bhargava said: "The GreenCo framework has guided over 1500 industrial units and companies to think beyond compliance, embed sustainability into their operational and strategic DNA and achieve significant monetary benefits amounting to over Rs 5,100 crore by implementing green projects as part of GreenCo assessment and rating system."

Thane's Mogharpada to host Mumbai Metro's largest depot, supporting 4 metro lines
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has secured 174 hectares of land in Mogharpada, Thane, for the city's largest integrated metro car depot. The facility will serve as the central maintenance and operations hub for metro lines 4, 4A, 10 and 11, covering nearly 56 km from CSMT to Mira Road. According to officials, the land was officially transferred to the MMRDA after a government resolution, and the depot work will start immediately. The contract of Rs 905 crore has been given to the project contractor, SEW–VSE JV. The depot will have 64 stabling lines, 20 maintenance lines, control centers, automated train wash systems and other heavy maintenance facilities. Dr Sanjay Mukherjee, Metropolitan Commissioner, MMRDA, said, 'The Mogharpada metro depot stands as a cornerstone in Mumbai's journey toward a more connected and commuter-centric future. As the central hub for Metro Lines 4, 4A, 10, and 11, this facility will ensure seamless, reliable service across some of the city's most rapidly growing corridors.' The primary purpose of the depot will be to store and maintain the trains during non-peak hours and enable daily inspections, major overhauls and testing. The depot is planned with an emphasis on continuous operations and commuter safety, particularly at peak times. Metro Line 4 and 4A, from Wadala to Kasarvadavali and Gaimukh respectively, will carry approximately 12 lakh commuters a day and cut down on travel time by up to 50 per cent. The depot will also give service to future metro lines 10 and 11 and create much better connectivity in the entire eastern suburbs of Mumbai and Thane. Work is in progress on all four lines, and the unified depot at Mogharpada will provide centralised management and quicker response times during technical halts. To facilitate construction, the MMRDA adopted a farmer-first model similar to that of Cidco, where 22.5 per cent of the land acquired will be rehabilitated to leaseholder farmers and 12.5 per cent to encroachers as developed plots with roads and infrastructure. The process had two public hearings, led by Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik and Thane district officers. So far, 198 offer letters have been issued. Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, 'MMRDA's timely acquisition of the Mogharpada land parcel is a landmark development for Mumbai's metro network. This milestone accelerates our goal of expanding sustainable, multimodal transport infrastructure that meets the aspirations of new Maharashtra.'

What is Yogi Adityanath's Gorakhpur model of growth?
(NOTE: This article was originally published in the India Today issue dated June 23, 2025) Once dismissed as the 'badlands' of eastern Uttar Pradesh, Gorakhpur, the home district of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, is now seeing an industrial transformation, with many high-profile infrastructure projects coming to the region. The Gorakhpur Industrial Development Authority (GIDA) has played no small part in this. CEO Anuj Malik says Rs 12,500 crore has come just in the past three years. 'Proactive policy support, subsidies and easy availability of land are the key drivers in eastern UP,' she says. GIDA says it has 3,500 acres in its land bank, with 250 acres ready for immediate allocation. Indian Glycols Ltd, Gallant Ispat Ltd, Ankur Udyog, Varun Beverages, Keyan Industries... the list of big-ticket companies that have set up shop here is long. Altogether, 1,167 industrial units, currently operational under GIDA, have generated employment for some 42,000 people. Akeel Khan is one of the lucky ones, working with Keyan Distillery, which has invested over Rs 1,200 crore and employs over a thousand people. 'Earlier, there were no jobs here, which is why I had to leave Gorakhpur and UP in search of work. Now, nearly every family in my village has someone working at one of the industries,' says Khan. The Keyan distillery, which began ethanol production earlier this year, was one of the first large units to start operations. And, according to Ankur Gangwar, AGM (project and maintenance), the company is already planning an additional unit. 'We had the bhoomi puja in August 2023, and with the raw material availability, uninterrupted electricity and connectivity, things moved faster than expected,' says Gangwar. EVOLVING LANDSCAPE The pace at which Gorakhpur's industrial landscape has evolved reflects in the numbers. Anupam Mishra, officer on special duty at GIDA, says the region's Gross State Domestic Product (GSDP) has more than doubled, from Rs 22,000 crore in 2017 to around Rs 47,000 crore now. Especially heartening is the fact that 20-30 per cent of the skilled workforce now comes from within the region. Malik says the presence of institutions like the National Institute of Electronics and Information Technology, which has trained more than 700 students, has helped. 'We did a skill gap analysis and are now aligning training programmes with industry demands,' she says. Next up is a 5,500-acre industrial zone in Dhuriyapar, among the region's most underdeveloped areas, where land is being acquired across 17 villages. Industries such as Adani Cements have already shown interest, helped by the new rail links and its location near the Purvanchal Expressway. Indeed, both Mishra and Malik stress Gorakhpur's logistical advantages. 'We sit at a geographic crossroads, connecting eastern India, Bihar, Nepal and the rest of UP. This benefits local industries and positions Gorakhpur as an alternative to more saturated hubs,' points out Mishra. GIDA is also working to attract sector-specific investments. 'We are developing UP's first plastic park, with space for 90 industrial units. Over 70 units have been allotted,' says Malik. Beyond the industrial infrastructure, Gorakhpur's urban transformation is also playing a role. With two five-star hotels already functional and two more under construction, the hospitality industry is expanding. State-backed infrastructure and urban projects are also reshaping the city. In FY25, CM Adityanath laid the foundation for projects worth over Rs 3,500 crore, including the Rapti Nagar Expansion Township and Sports City, and the 'new Gorakhpur city'.
