BTS' V's fellow soldier reveals how the injured star kept winning military awards, despite pain: 'Truly inspiring'

Gulf News21-04-2025

BTS ARMYs were overjoyed, after a fellow Special Duty Team (SDT) soldier who served alongside BTS' Kim Taehyun g, or V, shared a series of touching group photos featuring Taehyung—and paired them with a deeply heartfelt note. The soldier, who has just completed his military service, revealed how V's dedication pushed him through some of the toughest moments in his own military journey.
From topping the charts in full-arm shooting and winter city training to receiving a Military Police Exemplary Award despite being injured, V's efforts seems to have clearly left a mark.
A rare glimpse into V's low-key military life
One photo shows V in the forest, possibly mid-training. In other photos, he is grabbing brunch, enjoying walks or just enjoying the moments of camaraderie. Considering that his discharge is inching closer, fans are more excited than ever.
A handwritten message accompanying the post read, 'My body, including my shoulders and thighs, wasn't feeling well overall, but I got a lot of motivation when I saw you receiving 1st place in full-arm shooting, 1st place in winter city training and shooting, and even receiving the Military Police Exemplary Award despite being injured,' he wrote and added, 'Watching all that was truly inspiring.'
Another memory was during heir final physical fitness test, where they ran 3 km side by side, yelling 'Fighting!' and pushing each other to the finish line. 'That moment was just awesome,' the soldier recalled.
ARMYs react
Owing V's consistency and passion, the soldier found the strength to keep pursuing his dream of becoming a rehabilitation therapist. 'My military life was more enjoyable because of my brother,' he wrote. 'I'll keep going steady, not giving up—just like you, Hyung. Always stay healthy.'
The post instantly lit up on social media. 'There are many of us who thank you from the bottom of our hearts for these photos, but above all, for the kind words you dedicated to our Taehyung,' one fan commented. Another added, 'We're truly proud of him and the entire SDT team. Please stay safe and healthy.' A third simply said, 'Thank you for being good friends to our Taehyungie.'

'Possibility' of BTS concert in UAE: Fans hope to see boy band after military return

Across the globe, Korean culture is booming — from K-pop and K-dramas to K-food and skincare. In the UAE, too, the Hallyu wave is gaining momentum, with an increasingly passionate community embracing all things Korean. At the forefront of this global phenomenon is BTS — the group many credit with 'paving the way' for K-pop's mainstream success. With record-breaking albums, sold-out tours, and a fiercely devoted fanbase known as ARMY, BTS has become one of the most influential boy bands in the world. They even performed in the UAE back in 2016, marking one of their early global stops. Whether you love them or don't quite get the hype, BTS is impossible to ignore. In the UAE, the BTS ARMY is a vibrant and growing community. Fans regularly come together to celebrate the band, organise events, and share their love for the music and message BTS stands for. Inside UAE ARMY community One of the largest local fan clubs, Bangtan UAE, is run by Yan Hinolan, a long-time BTS fan originally from the Philippines. She started the group in 2015, and before the pandemic, had "at least a thousand" UAE-based fans registered in her database. Today, their Facebook page has over 58,000 followers, and their Instagram over 10,000. In May, the group organised a block screening of j-hope's solo concert, livestreamed by Vox Cinemas. Before the screening began, Yan hosted games, handed out freebies, and brought the crowd together with warmth and humour. The atmosphere was electric with camaraderie — fans hugged, laughed, and exchanged small gifts they'd prepared for fellow ARMY. One of the attendees was Amar Dass, an Indian expat and one of the few men in the theatre. He first discovered BTS after Jungkook's performance at the Fifa World Cup in Qatar and says he "found family in BTS ARMY." Another fan, Athina Doutis, a Greek expat who's lived in the UAE most of her life, echoed that sentiment. 'ARMY really feels like family, even though I've known them for a very short time,' she said. Even though the band is 'selling out enormous arenas even as solo artists,' she still holds out hope that BTS will return to perform in the UAE. Concert in UAE? She isn't the only fan with such optimism, 15-year-old Mehreen Arfaz "hopes that their comeback means that they would have a concert in the UAE". The teen says she'll have all their songs memorised if the band does make it here. Doutis says she would book her ticket with "zero hesitation" if a concert was announced here. "I don't care about the cost, date, or location, there would be no barriers or obstacles." Another fan who is a brand marketing executive in Dubai, Amrithashree Kumrouth, said, a concert in the UAE would "mean everything" to her. "My prayers would be answered," she said. Shaziya Ashraf, an influencer who goes by the alias 'thatanimemom' on social media, said she wouldn't be surprised if "tickets sell out in seconds" if BTS announce a tour stop in the UAE. But is it even possible? Speaking to Khaleej Times in a personal capacity, Yu Ri Park, Deputy Consul General of the Republic of Korea in Dubai, said that there is a "possibility that BTS will perform in the UAE in the future". She elaborated that the "UAE is rapidly emerging as a regional hub for Hallyu" and continued to say that the nation "is well positioned to host such a popular and attractive event as it has a world-class logistics and transportation infrastructure". Military return With the final five members returning from military service this month, fans across the globe are counting down the days, making plans, and preparing emotionally — and financially — for what's to come. This year's BTS Festa, held annually in June to mark the band's debut anniversary, feels particularly meaningful as it coincides with their reunion. 'I would probably be crying happy tears,' said Ashraf, who was introduced to the band through a K-drama featuring BTS member V. 'Funnily enough, I found them when I was going through a very hard time in my life, and in a way, they saved me with their songs. I think that's one thing that will also make me an ARMY for life. I owe them so much.' She added: 'I also feel like, being away for almost two years in the military, each of them would've evolved — and I'd want them to showcase that individually, for sure.' With the last of BTS's military enlistments wrapping up, fans in the UAE — like ARMY everywhere — are holding their breath. Whether it's through new music, global tours, or even a long-awaited concert in the UAE, one thing is certain: BTS's next chapter is about to begin, and ARMY will be there for every beat of it.

Explained: Why BTS' label Hybe's chairman is facing life imprisonment over fraud allegations

BTS fans around the world are eagerly waiting for the K-pop band's reunion after the remaining members are released from military duty in June. However, Bang Si-hyuk, the man who formed BTS, is currently under investigation after being accused of fraudulent and unfair trading practices. According to Korean media outlets, Bang Si-hyuk, 52, is being investigated by the Financial Supervisory Service (FSS) for allegedly misleading investors and bagging about 400 billion won ($289 million) during the company's initial public offering (IPO) process. Did Bang Si-hyuk deceive investors? Sources say the FSS has evidence suggesting Bang may have engaged in deceptive practices involving private equity firms. Back in 2019, when Hybe was still known as BigHit Entertainment, existing shareholders were told there was had no immediate plans to go public, persuading some investors to sell their stakes to a private equity fund allegedly set up by an associate. However, the company simultaneously began the process to go public after Bang allegedly signed a private shareholders' agreement with local PEFs to share profits from a future listing, a deal that was not disclosed at the time. While investors suffered heavy losses from the post-IPO sell-off, the private equity fund reaped a large profit after the company went public. The alleged gains from the scheme are estimated at around 400 billion won ($290 million). The BigHit IPO filed in October 2020 increased Bang's net worth to $2.8 billion, reportedly making him the only billionaire in South Korea's entertainment industry and the sixth-richest person in the country. Could it lead to life imprisonment? The FSS is investigating Bang's transactions with the PEFs and plans to refer the case to prosecutors for potential criminal prosecution, according to KED Global. HYBE's alleged secret profit-sharing agreement between Bang and the PEFs could constitute a violation of disclosure rules under the Capital Markets Act. If found guilty, Bang could face a prison sentence of five years or more, or a life sentence, if the profit exceeds 5 billion won. Meanwhile, BTS ARMY around the world are eagerly waiting for the seven band members to reunite. While j-hope and Jin have already completed their mandatory military service, Jungkook, Jumin, V, RM and Suga are set to be released from their duties in June.
