The quiet solitude of silence is a luxury that may be elusive in urban living. From honking traffic to relentless construction noise, the city's soundtrack can be overwhelming sometimes. But here's where design steps in, bringing in a much-needed sense of calm and relief. Turns out, the interiors are not only about how to looks or feels, but also about how it sounds, so that even amid a bustling city, your space is uniquely and peacefully yours. Let peace prevail both on your senses by reducing the city noise and on your mind by going sustainable. Know how to sound proof your space so that you can engage in mindful pratices like meditations.(Shutterstock)
HT Lifestyle reached out to experts to understand how urban homes are becoming quiet sanctuaries where there's both style and peace.
Varun Poddar, Founder, VOX India, shared with HT Lifestyle 5 fresh and functional ways spaces are attuned to be acoustically calm while still being aesthetic: 1. Install acoustic wall panels Acoustic wall panels reduce reverberation and absorb unwanted sound, all while offering a sleek, modern finish.
From wood-textured slats to soft 3D patterns, these interior wall panels work great in living rooms, bedrooms, or home offices. 2. Choose soft, layered surfaces Hard surfaces bounce sound. Soft surfaces absorb it.
Introduce layered textiles, upholstered headboards, or wall-mounted fabric panels to reduce echo.
Stick to light, warm tones or natural hues to maintain a cosy vibe. 3. Ceiling and floors Most sound travels through ceilings and floors. A floating false ceiling with insulation can block noise from above.
Pair it with SPC (stone polymer composite) flooring, which adds mass and reduces sound impact. 4. Create zoned quiet spaces If full home soundproofing isn't possible, design one zone, a reading nook, a home office, or a meditation corner, dedicated to quiet.
Install acoustic slats or a mix of soft finishes, rugs and dimmable lighting to make it your personal cocoon. 5. Plants and natural textures While not traditional sound absorbers, plants help reduce ambient noise slightly, and more importantly, bring calm into the space.
Tall indoor plants placed in corners or against windows can diffuse sound waves and soften the room visually.
As people in their urban homes are reclaiming their peace despite living in metro cities that never sleep, the consciousness around comfort is also growing and evolving. Now it is no longer about just reducing noise; it's also about intentional living. Homeowners are leaning towards sustainability, embracing a kind of luxury that is both green and quiet. It not only soothes senses but also shows reflection on a deeper set of values. Sustainable designs
Chander Goyal, MD of Luxeartisanship, shared with HT Lifestyle how sustainability is becoming the new comfort luxury, quiet and soothing the inner values. He said, 'Millennials and Gen Z consumers today wear sustainability as a badge of honour. For them, luxury is not merely about appearances; it is about authenticity. Timelessness is the foundation of this movement. Sustainable luxury prioritises enduring, high-quality pieces over fleeting trends. Investing in fewer items that carry a story not only reduces waste but also adds character and depth to a space or wardrobe.'
He shared these tips: 1. Choose ethically crafted decor Opt for pieces that are made with traditional techniques and ethical production practices, like hand-forged brass idols or ecologically sourced devotional items.
These not only add spiritual and cultural depth but also reflect sustainability through craftsmanship. 2. Invest in natural materials Decorate with items made from natural, renewable materials such as organic cotton, bamboo blends, or natural fibres.
These are eco-friendly alternatives that are gentle on the planet and pleasing to the eye. 3. Complement with houseplants
Houseplants aren't just aesthetic; they balance and complement the warmth of brass, bringing harmony and calm into the home.
They support sustainable living by improving indoor air quality and reducing ambient noise. Position them near windows or corners to soften both the space and its acoustics.

Capes instead of dupattas and corsets over cholis? Experts decode what festive dressing looks like in 2025

From regal capes and structured corsets to playful drapes and futuristic silhouettes, festive fashion in 2025 is all about bold statements and personal flair. We spoke to fashion experts who decode what's trending, what's timeless, and how you can make this festive season your most stylish one yet. (Also read: Beyond the sherwani: How modern Indian grooms are redefining wedding fashion with comfort and flair ) Here's how festive fashion in 2025 is redefining Indian glamour. How are corsets and capes changing festive wear In an interview with HT Lifestyle Sunaina Khera, Founder and Creative Designer of clothing line Sunaina Khera shared, 'Contemporary cuts continue to define the festive fashion space, think pre-draped saris, structured blouses, and lehengas that feel modern in silhouette but remain deeply rooted in traditional hand embroidery. Corsets are now making their way into occasion wear, bringing a fresh sense of structure, while capes and soft stoles add drama and fluidity without the bulk.' She adds, 'What's catching on this year is the idea of light festive dressing, especially for occasions like Raksha Bandhan, Teej, or intimate wedding functions. From easy-breezy suits to fuss-free dresses, comfort and movement are becoming just as important as visual appeal. It's less about chasing trends and more about dressing the way people want to today: light, personal, and thoughtfully designed.' Why is light festive dressing trending now Bringing her expertise on the same, Gazal Gupta, fashion expert and founder of Gazal Gupta Couture, shared, 'Festive dressing in 2025 is all about celebrating heritage through a distinctly modern lens. This evolution is marked by the rise of corsets, capes, and contemporary cuts that breathe new life into traditional Indian wear. Designers are now reimagining classic silhouettes by introducing structured corsetry into festive wardrobes, think hand-embroidered corset blouses paired with flowing lehengas that strike a beautiful balance between old-world regality and bold modernity.' "Capes, too, are having a moment. Whether it's a sheer layer draped over a sari or an embroidered overlay replacing the conventional dupatta, these elements add a sense of drama and versatility to any look. Contemporary cuts, like asymmetrical hemlines, fusion drapes, and deconstructed cholis, are more than fleeting trends; they've become a form of self-expression," says Gazal. Today's festive wear isn't just about ornate craftsmanship, but also about celebrating movement, comfort, and individuality. Gazal explains, "The emphasis is on pieces that feel effortless yet intentional, crafted with purpose, presence, and a deep sense of identity. In a world of evolving fashion narratives, corsets, capes, and contemporary cuts are not mere stylistic choices, they are the new language of festive elegance, redefining what luxury looks like in the Indian sartorial space."

Silver jewellery has a strong hold in desi looks, whether it's the breezy, bohemian fits for brunches and hangouts or classy accessories perfect for workwear. The format of silver may vary, from sleek sterling pieces to vintage-style oxidised ones. But regardless of the finish, the desi girl look almost always finds its match in silver. Celebs both on-screen and off-screen embrace the charm of silver pieces for an effortless look. (Reference pics: Pinterest) ALSO READ: Pearls reimagined: 5 looks that show the never-seen-before versatility of this classic accessory Over the decades, silver has had its strong moment, both on screen and off in Bollywood, like Alia Bhatt's Rani Chatterjee in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani, unapologetically pairing stylish nose pins and jhumkas with sarees and bindi at the workplace (classic desi boss lady vibes). Or Sonam Kapoor's character Bittu Sharma from Delhi-6, rocking a headscarf, halter neck top, midi skirt with chunky silver necklace, earrings and a baajubandh (for that uber cool vibe). Even off-screen, celebs stun in silver, like Aditi Rao Hydari's selfie, featuring stacked silver bangles and jhumkas (jhumka is a non-negotiable staple in every desi girl's wardrobe, even celebs). So, if you wish to make your accessorising game look effortlessly 'desi, confident, and hot-girl snatched', you have got to get your basics right, starting with the fundamentals of silver jewellery. HT Lifestyle reached out to experts to understand some of the key styling rules related to silver jewellery. Festive occasion-centric styling Silver jewellery pairs beautifully with ethnic wear, just like how Sanya Malhotra effortlessly styled a printed saree with elegant silver pieces. Saree is often worn during festive occasions, and when paired with silver, the look feels cohesive and complete. Even beyond festive celebrations or ethnic wear, silver adds a distinct charm. Aditya Modak, co-founder of Gargi & Utsaav by P N Gadgil and Sons, shared with HT Lifestyle some festive occasion-wise styling tips for oxidised jewellery. From grand weddings to intimate pujas and even workwear, he unpacked how oxidised silver pieces can be versatile. He said, 'One of the biggest strengths of oxidised jewellery is its ability to transition effortlessly into everyday wardrobes. A chunky ring with a matte finish, a geometric pendant, or engraved cuffs can turn even a simple jeans-and-shirt combination into something intentional. Worn with a monochrome jumpsuit or an oversized linen shirt, these accents speak of quiet confidence and style that does not try too hard.' Aditya further listed the silver jewellery pieces based on the occasion: Wedding: Intricately carved choker or a pair of oversized jhumkas layered with silver bangles can bring a touch of drama to a traditional look. Whether paired with a heritage silk saree or a richly embroidered lehenga, these pieces anchor the entire ensemble. Layering is about wearing multiple pieces together.(Reference Pics: Pinterest/@bidisha7roy and Pinterest/@selflove) Now that you have a general overview of what type of pieces usually go with an occasion, let's take a closer look at one of the popular styling principles: layering. Layering is all about stacking multiple pieces of jewellery, like rings, necklaces, and bangles, to create visual depth and dimension in your look. It adds more personality and texture to your outfit. Sanya Khandelwal, founder of Kicky and Perky, shared a guide to the rules regarding layering silver jewellery: 1. Asymmetrical length creates depth The easiest thing to play with, when attempting to layer, is length. Using necklaces or pendants of varying lengths creates visual focus and depth. You will want to try a short choker-style neckpiece along with mid-sized or long necklaces or pendants to create a cascading effect. If you can wear multiple ear piercings, consider using a stud in anything other than the lower lobe (the most common) piercing; wear a drop earring, a dangler or a hoop to create layers. 2. Start with the centre piece Choose a piece that can stand out, a statement piece that captures visual attention. Make it the focal point of your ensemble, and then work around it. Add elements of various styles/sizes that almost frame the main piece of interest, thus adding a dramatic flair to the outfit. 3. Consistency One easy and classic method of layering is with either the same or similar materials- the same metal, textures, colours and designs. You could, alternatively, also experiment with contrast utilising different kinds of colours, textures and metals. Contrasting these elements, based on other features of the overall outfit, can create some cool fits. 4. Day and night During the day, use simple and delicate pieces; nothing too extraordinary. At night, swap out one of the more subtle pieces for a piece of dramatic and bold statement jewellery.

Coffee is getting a fruity makeover: Fruit-infused coffee brings fresh flavours to your brew; 2 recipes to try at home

Your favourite beverage just got a flavour glow-up. Fruit-infused coffee is winning hearts and levelling up coffee from basic to bougie. While you may already be familiar with fruity notes in the coffee, they are often syrup-based. This is where fruit-infused coffee steps in, using real fruit in the brewing process. The rich notes of coffee are being paired with fresh, tropical fruit like oranges. (Shutterstock) ALSO READ: Tea and coffee in fine dining? Chef shares beverage pairing rules, Indian dishes to go with, and brew types In an interview with HT Lifestyle, chef Dheeraj Mathur, cluster executive chef at Radisson Blu, Kaushambi, Delhi NCR, unpacked the latest beverage trend of fruit-infused coffee. For those who enjoy a good brew, there is growing openness to flavour profiles that go beyond regular coffee notes. This coffee trend also highlights the potential for beverage innovation in culinary arts through the technique of fruit fermentation, as pointed out by Chef Dheeraj. Sharing a basic lowdown on the trend and what it really means, Chef Dheeraj said, 'In India, fruit-infused coffee is a rising trend, especially among those who drink speciality coffee. The trend focuses on infusing coffee beans with fruits and more exotic and natural ingredients to make different flavour representations. Recently, however, attention has focused on the next critical step: how coffee cherries are processed after they are picked from the shrubs. Out goes the traditional process, and in comes a futuristic experiment known as fruit co-fermentation.' What is the process of making fruit-infused coffee? Fruit-infused coffee is organic and does not involve adding flavoured fruit syrups to the coffee. Instead, real fruit bits are added during the brewing process. (Shutterstock) Fruit-flavoured coffee is different as it is more organic, because it involves real fruit slices in the brewing process, rather than fruit-flavoured syrup. This makes the flavour notes much more authentic. Chef Dheeraj explained the process of fruit co-fermentation, which is used to prepare fruit-infused coffee, and it has no place for any artificial fruit syrups. Clarifying more about the brewing process, he said, 'Fruit co-fermentation is a thorough process performed with freshly picked coffee cherries and fresh fruits. Therefore, it has nothing to do with artificially flavoured coffees that are roasted and then poured with syrups or oils. Instead, the actual effort begins immediately after the cherries are collected.' Further describing the process of fruit fermentation, he continued, 'Harvested fruit is transferred to sealed chambers that either keep all oxygen out or allow some in. Once inside, producers add slices of pineapple, peach, citrus, or other desired fruit. As the hours pass, the beans absorb the aroma and flavour of the steam rising in the tank, allowing fresh notes to enter the cup without overpowering the coffee. The ultimate result of all of this effort is a flavour that tastes significantly more complex. Specifically, mouthfeel, brightness, fragrance, and even the way the aftertaste lingers can all change in wonderful ways.' The sweet, fruity flavours carry a nuanced balance, in tandem with coffee's rich notes, without tasting like a juice. He added, 'Nobody expects the coffee to smell like juice, yet the additional fruit delicately elevates the beans' natural characteristics rather than masking them under sugar sweetness.' Types of fruit-infused coffee variants Strawberries are added to coffee for a fruity touch- like this strawberry latte.(Shutterstock) So, what are the fruit flavours that are teaming up with coffee for a whole new brew update? Chef Dheeraj listed out three types of fruit-infusions, which include different fruity pops of taste: Citrus Infusions: Orange, lemon and other citrus fruits add a refreshing twist to coffee. Berry Infusions: Strawberries, cranberries and other berries bring sweetness and tartness. Tropical Fruit Infusions: Pineapple, mango, and other tropical fruits create a sweet and creamy flavour. Now that you're aware of the broad fruit categories, let's take a closer look at some specific fruit pairings. One fruit doesn't need to be the hero ingredient; multiple fruits from the same flavour profile can be combined to create a more layered experience. Chef Dheeraj shared a few coffee drinks based on fruit pairings and their flavour profiles: Citrus and Coffee: Orange, lemon, and grapefruit pair well with coffee, adding a bright and citrusy flavour. Tropical Twist: Pineapple, mango, and passionfruit add a sweet and creamy flavour to coffee. 2 fruit-infused coffee recipes to try at home Chef Dheeraj shared 2 recipes that you can try: 1. Orange-Infused Cold Brew The zesty orange flavour feels perfect for iced brews. (Shutterstock) Ingredients 100 grams coffee, coarsely ground 700 ml water 2 oranges, each cut into 8 pieces 1 inch cinnamon stick Method Place coarsely ground coffee, water, cinnamon and orange slices in a large container. Set aside for 12-24 hours for brewing. Filter coffee through cheesecloth or a filter and remove orange slices. Pour into a glass, garnish with an orange and enjoy. 2. Blueberry Latte Blueberry latte has a sweet yet tarty taste.(Shutterstock) Ingredients ½ cup frozen blueberries 2-3 tbsp brown sugar or sweetener of choice ½ tsp vanilla extract 180 ml milk of choice 60 ml espresso 1 cup of ice if making cold coffee Optional garnish: Whipped cream Method Over medium-high heat, combine the blueberries, brown sugar and vanilla in a small pot. Cook for 2-3 minutes. Liquid should be smooth, and blueberries should be breaking down. Set aside to cool a bit. Transfer the compote to a small blender and pulse until smooth. Brew espresso and set aside. Layer 1-2 tbsp of blueberry compote in the cup, then fill the cup with ice. Pour milk of choice over ice, then add the espresso. Give it a little stir and enjoy.
