Music industry pays tribute to agent Dave Shapiro after San Diego plane crash
Loving tributes are being paid to a music agent and a famous drummer after they were both killed in a plane crash.
Talent spotter Dave Shapiro and former The Devil Wears Prada sticksman Dan Williams were two of six passengers involved in the San Diego, California tragedy.
A private Cessna 550 aircraft veered into a suburban street in San Diego and crashed at around 3.45am local time on Thursday (10.45am GMT), injuring eight people on the ground.
Shapiro's Sound Talent Group confirmed his death in a statement that paid tribute to the work he'd done down the years, representing bands like Sum 41, Story of the Year, and Pierce the Veil.
'We are devastated by the loss of our co-founder [David], colleagues and friends. Our hearts go out to their families and to everyone impacted by today's tragedy.'
Shapiro's aviation company Velocity shared: 'From BASE jumping to aerobatic flying, helicopters to twin engines, flight instructing to furthering his own education, doesn't matter to Dave as long as he gets to be in the sky.'
While Williams' death is yet to be confirmed by police, his former Devil Wears Prada bandmates posted about their shock and heartbreak on Instagram.
Sharing a picture of the drummer, they said of Williams – who left the group in 2016 after 11 years: 'No words. We owe you everything. Love you forever.'
Williams was a founding member of the Christian heavy metal group and performed on several of their albums, including US top 20 releases With Roots Above & Branches Below and Dead Throne.
Alternative music podcast State of the Scene shared a post about the crash: 'Heart goes out to Dave Shapiro and Daniel Williams' family and friends. What a tragedy this week has been.'
On Reddit, AwareEmergency57 said: 'Genuinely devastated by this. I looked up to him as a drummer and as a person. God damn man, it feels like everyday has been filled with demoralizing headlines and this one is hitting hard. Life is just unfair.'
FlimsyTomatoes also said: 'Man, [Shapiro] launched the careers of so many great bands. He was also the drummer of [rock band] Cinematic Sunrise. Such a sad day.'
Prior to the crash, Shapiro and Williams uploaded pictures from inside the plane, which appeared to show Williams was sitting in the co-pilot's seat while Shapiro flew the plane. More Trending
Shapiro leaves behind his wife Julia – the pair tied the knot in 2016. In 2020, he said of her: 'Despite all the uncertainty in our business, and in the world, I still wake up grateful every day.'
As well as managing bands in the alternative rock scene in California, Shapiro also represented 90s number one stars Hanson and A Thousand Miles singer Vanessa Carlton.
After the crash, several homes and cars were also damaged. 100 people have been evacuated from the Murphy Canyon area of San Diego, which lies to the north of the city.

Alison wore a huge fake belly under a figure hugging dress as she showcased her moves to Starrkeisha's viral song Baby Mama. The broadcaster, who is already mum to son Aidan, 20, whom she shares with ex-husband, captioned the post: "Lots of AI stories online about me being pregnant. "I can confirm I am not having a baby as I'm not sure my 50 year old womb could take it . "However I do think we should all dance like Meghan!!" Of course, it wasn't long before Alison's followers rushed to post in the comments. One said: "Just another reason to love Alison." Another added: "I love this so much! And double yes to Meghan!." "Such a Queen," said another. While one fan gushed: "YOU ARE AMAZING ALISON X." Alison Hammond shows off 11 stone weight loss in leggings as she hits the gym for gruelling workout Meghan, 43, released the 89-second clip of her and Prince Harry to her three million followers on Instagram after earlier posting unseen photos of her daughter. It showed the heavily pregnant Meghan making rowing movements and shimmying her shoulders beside the hospital bed. Prince Harry also shuffles into view in a hoodie to the strains of then-viral pregnancy hit The Baby Momma Dance. But the clip sparked bizarre claims from conspiracy theorists, who questioned whether the baby bump was real. The wild online speculation cruelly suggested that Meghan wasn't pregnant at all and was in fact wearing a prosthetic pregnant belly or "moonbump". Some went even further with groundless claims that the video was faked, made on a film set or even generated by AI. Meanwhile, Alison who is already on nearly every channel, making programmes about baking, travel, dogs and hobnobbing with celebrities - has bagged yet another show. The TV celebrity will this summer front new Channel 4 project Your Song. In the series she will tour Britain giving ordinary members of the public the chance to perform a track which has special meaning to them. But Alison will have to squeeze her new job into her schedule. As well as appearing soon on Channel 4's Bake Off and Celebrity Gogglebox, for the BBC she's just made travel series Florida Unpacked and interview show Alison Hammond's Big Weekend for the BBC. Plus, on ITV, she still has This Morning and For The Love Of Dogs. Have YOU got a story or an amazing picture or video? BREAKING NEWS Love Island USA cast member breaks silence after being kicked off show due to past racist slurs
Axed Love Island USA contestant Yulissa Escobar has broken her silence after being removed from the show over her past use of racist slurs. Escobar, 27, was released from the reality TV show off camera during only the second episode, before the rest of the contestants woke up for the day. Clips of Escobar using the N-word while discussing ex-boyfriends surfaced on Reddit and fans were irate, commenting on her Instagram that they would vote her off at the first opportunity. Now Escobar has taken to Instagram to apologize for using the slurs in a post captioned: 'Owning my mistakes, speaking my truth.' She wrote: 'First, I want to apologize for using a word I had no right in using. 'Podcast clips from years ago have recently resurfaced, and I want to address it directly. 'In those clips, I used a word I never should've used, a racial slur. I used it ignorantly, not fully understanding the weight, history, or pain behind it. I wasn't trying to be offensive or harmful, but I recognize now that intention doesn't excuse impact. And the impact of that word is real. It's tied to generations of trauma, and it is not mine to use. 'At the time, I was speaking casually in conversation, not thinking deeply or critically about what I was saying. But that doesn't take away from how wrong it was. The truth is, I didn't know better then, but I do now. I've taken the time to reflect, to learn, and to grow from that moment. 'I've changed a lot since then, not just in how I speak, but in how I show up, how I carry myself, and how I honor the experiences of others. Growth means recognizing when you were wrong, even if it's uncomfortable, and choosing to move forward with humility and accountability. 'There have also been fake statements circulating, things written or said by others that don't reflect me or my heart. I want to clarify that this is my voice and my words. I don't need anyone to speak for me. I'm choosing to speak for myself because I take full ownership of my actions. Do not listen to the fake statements. This is my official statement. This is me, speaking directly to you. 'To those who are disappointed or offended, I understand and I apologize. 'I am sorry. As the islanders were waking up, the narrator of the show Iain Stirling announced: 'Yulissa has left the villa.' Yulissa was paired up with Ace Greene who is now single following her exit. One comment on the Reddit thread pointed out: 'How [the f***] did producers let this slide? They for SURE saw this.' Another user replied: 'Yeah, if people on this sub can find this in a few days, casting should have DEFINITELY found this. So either they're not looking into people enough or they're choosing to let this stuff slide. Not sure which is worse.' The remaining season seven Islanders include: Chelley Bissainthe, Huda Mustafa, Belle-A Walker, Olandria Carthen, Greene, and Taylor Williams. The comments on Yulissa's Instagram will be a surprise to her when she gets back from Fiji. ''yulissa has left the villa' LMFAOOOO,' one fan wrote, while another expressed,' WE WON SHES GONE!' The strong reaction continued in that theme, with someone else saying: 'Love Island stood on business and I love that.' Just a day before her exit, the budding reality star had been happily promoting the show on her Instagram. In one post, she wrote, 'It's my unapologetic year! And I'm choosing me, every time. Loud, soft, sweet, savage—whatever I feel like being.' In other Love Island-related posts, Yulissa shilled for votes to stay in the Villa. 'Say hello to your newest official islander on Love Island USA Season 7. Straight from Miami and headed to the villa! She's all about kindness, connection, and staying true to who she is,' one post was captioned 'We can't wait for you to get to know her heart, her humor, and everything in between. Make sure you download love island app to vote for Yulissa!' 'Can she see these comments?? Or not yet cause she in the island? Honestly IDC but how hilarious when she comes out thinking she got all these fans but she's getting cancelled,' one person commented on that post. Yulissa isn't the only Love Island USA contestant to face controversy. Season 7 contestant Austin Shepard has faced controversy for liking TikTok content supporting Donald Trump. Unlike Yulissa, Austin has remained in the villa. The remaining female contestants in the villa include Chelley Bissainthe, Huda Mustafa, Belle-A Walker, and Olandria Carthen. The guys vying for love are Ace Greene, Taylor Williams, Nicolas Vansteenberghe and Jeremiah Brown. The show also introduced two early bombshells: Cierra Ortega and Charlie Georgiou. Bombshells are a new Islander who enters the villa with the intention of potentially disrupting existing relationships and forming new ones. "Islanders will couple up to face brand new heart-racing challenges and bigger twists and turns than ever before,' the show's logline reads. The contestants are also vying for a $100,000 prized. On Love Island USA, a spinoff of Love Island UK, singles live together in a villa for about two months and couple up with the islander they are most attracted to.

She captioned her shots: "A little girls trip with Sue." Fans were quick to comment on her holiday snaps, with one saying: "Wow u look incredible". Another said: "Still stunning after all these years!" Louise found love again almost two years ago with boyfriend Drew, 41. Since then, they've appeared inseparable, often enjoying music events and spending their summers attending festivals, including Glastonbury and Boardmasters. If Louise hasn't been going to festivals, she's been performing at them, with the singer launching a comeback with her Greatest Hits celebrating her career to date. She's also just released her fifth solo album Confessions. The Strictly winner was with ex Jamie Redknapp for 20 years and they share two sons. 'What's great is (Drew) is brilliant on a friendship level with the boys,' she told The Sun last month. Louise Redknapp says she felt 'the lowest a human could get' when she split from husband Jamie and 'almost gave up' 'They get on great with him. And that, for me, is super-important. There's just a real mutual respect there. Obviously Beau is still at school, but we spend a lot of time together.' The nine-year age gap inevitably led to Drew being described as her 'toyboy' and Louise being referred to as a 'cougar'. But it's 'water off a duck's back,' she added. 'For me, age is irrelevant – within reason – but he's not 22. I think it's more about the person and the life experiences and the connection that's important.' However, Louise isn't thinking about walking down the aisle a second time. 'Oh, I'm not even thinking that far ahead. I'm not even going there. Manifesting is a real hint to Drew. 'I'm not going to lie and say it isn't. But it's also a life lesson to be present in the here and now, so I'm not thinking down the line. I'm enjoying my relationship, my kids, my album and my life." After their split her ex Jamie went on to marry model Frida Andersson in 2021. 5 Louise with boyfriend Drew Credit: Instagram
