NDA government betrayed jobless youth and students, says former CM Jagan Mohan Reddy
VIJAYAWADA: YSRCP president and former Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy slammed the TDP-led NDA government for betraying unemployed youth and students. In a post on X, he praised participants of the YSRCP-organised statewide 'Yuvatha Poru', commending their efforts to highlight the government's failure to deliver on election promises.
Jagan expressed outrage over the police lathi-charge on peacefully protesting students in Narasaraopet, questioning the coalition's violent response to youth submitting a representation to the District Collector.
Recalling the TDP's election promise of Rs 3,000 monthly allowance for the unemployed, he said it remains unfulfilled even after one year. He also criticised the coalition for neglecting education schemes. He highlighted that Rs 4,200 crore in fee reimbursement under Jagananna Vidya Deevena remains pending across six quarters from January 2024 to June 2025, with only Rs 750 crore released.
Similarly, Rs 2,200 crore is due under the Vasathi Deevena for two instalments. This Rs 6,400 crore shortfall has forced many students to abandon education for work, he said. Jagan accused Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu of suppressing dissent instead of fulfilling commitments, labelling the Narasaraopet lathi-charge as evidence of the NDA's oppressive 'Red Book' governance.

Union Cabinet clears metro boost for Pune, major rehab push in Jharia, potato research hub in Agra
NEW DELHI: The Union Cabinet on Wednesday approved three major development projects, including an extension of the Pune Metro, a revised rehabilitation plan for families displaced by coal fires in Jharkhand's Jharia coalfields, and the establishment of a regional centre of the International Potato Centre in Agra district of Uttar Pradesh. Among the approved projects is a Rs 3,626-crore extension of Pune Metro Line 2, which aims to improve urban mobility in one of Maharashtra's fastest-growing cities, second largest in the state and ninth in the country, Minister for Information & Broadcasting Ashwini Vaishnaw said after the Cabinet meeting chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The 12.77-km elevated stretch will link Vanaz and Ramwadi areas of Pune and is expected to enhance last-mile connectivity, reduce traffic congestion, and support the city's green mobility goals, the Minister added. 'The (upcoming) metro lines will further strengthen the transportation model of Pune and bolster the city's infrastructure in the years to come,' Vaishnaw asserted, adding that this would contribute to environmental benefits, reduce the cost of living, and make the Pune Metro one of the largest networks in the country, comparable to the likes of New Delhi.

Majithia's arrest a bold step against Punjab's drug menace: AAP
New Delhi: The arrest of former Punjab minister and senior Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram Singh Majithia on Wednesday has sparked strong reactions from Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) ministers in the state, who termed the move a major step in the government's ongoing war against drugs. Reacting to the arrest, Punjab's Minister for Rural Development and Panchayats, Kuldeep Singh Dhaliwal, told IANS, 'AAP, our national convener Arvind Kejriwal, and CM Bhagwant Mann had promised the people of Punjab in 2022 that we would eradicate the drug menace. This arrest is a step in that direction. Our fight against drugs is not influenced by political affiliations — whether someone belongs to any party or holds any position, they will not be spared if found guilty.' Dhaliwal pointed out that the peak of the drug crisis in Punjab was during 2007-2017, when the state was ruled by the SAD-BJP alliance. 'In November 2013, when Jagdish Bhola was arrested, he named Majithia, yet Badal Saheb remained silent. This silence spoke volumes,' he added. Echoing similar sentiments, Punjab's Minister of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Lal Chand Kataruchakk, called the arrest 'historic'. 'Punjab is a holy land, and those who have poisoned it with drugs will face consequences. CM Bhagwant Mann has demonstrated strong political will by arresting Majithia,' he said. Kataruchakk also questioned the previous Congress-led government's inaction. 'Everyone in Punjab knows that Majithia is already facing NDPS charges. Why did Congress do nothing? What was their relationship with him?" he asked. Calling it a 'bold step' by CM Mann, the minister said families shattered by drug abuse have welcomed the move. 'If Majithia is innocent, the courts will decide. But retired DSP Jagdish Bhola had clearly said years ago that Majithia was their leader. That statement cannot be ignored,' he said. Majithia's arrest marks a significant moment in Punjab's anti-drug campaign, signalling that the CM Mann-led government is willing to act decisively against anyone, irrespective of political affiliations.
