Yahoo03-05-2025

As the 2025 World Championship approaches, some teams have been playing friendlies as they warm up in hopes of making a push to win the tournament. One Sharks forward, William Eklund, earned the opportunity to represent his home country of Sweden, but suffered a scary injury during a friendly matchup against Czechia.

Team staff immediately tended to Eklund and began working on his wrist, but it was clear he was quite worried about the situation at the moment.
Eklund, who is 22 years old, had 58 points in 72 games with the Sharks this season. He has a promising future ahead of him and is expected to be a core piece of the Sharks' future as they look to make their way back into the playoff picture.
Unfortunately, at the time of this article, we don't have an update on Eklund's status, but he seemed to be alert and okay while being tended to on the bench.
We will be sure to update with any more information as it becomes available.
Should The Sharks Trade Mario Ferraro This Offseason? The San Jose Sharks have traded away a lot of players over the past few seasons, which is to be expected while they are in a full-blown rebuild.
Macklin Celebrini To Represent Canada At Worlds Championships San Jose Sharks forward Macklin Celebrini has been named to the Team Canada roster at the World Championships in May.

Harris, Acuña, Ozuna provide boost to lineup, give Braves hope they can save season

ATLANTA — With Michael Harris II finding his power stroke, Ronald Acuña Jr. hitting .375 after missing almost a full season and Marcel Ozuna fighting his way through a hip issue, the Atlanta Braves are hoping their offensive recovery has not come too late. Harris has hit homers in back-to-back games for the Braves, who have won three of their last four games at a crucial stretch of the season. Harris hit a three-run homer to tie the game and Ozuna added another three-run shot to give the Braves the lead in their 12-4 win over Colorado on Friday night. It was Ozuna's 11th homer, despite the sore hip. The Braves trailed 4-1 before recovering to beat the lowly Rockies after winning two of three games at Milwaukee — their first series win since May 16-18. The Braves (30-38) still have much ground to make up in the NL East. Scoring six or more runs in each of their most recent three wins has given manager Brian Snitker renewed reason for optimism. The Braves, who won the 2021 World Series, need a dramatic recovery to extend their streak of seven consecutive postseason appearances. 'These are big games, all of them,' Snitker said after Friday night's win before acknowledging it won't be easy to save the season after falling 10 games below .500, most recently at 28-38. The Braves are 14 games behind the first-place New York Mets and tied for third in the East with Washington. 'As we know, we've done it before (but) not this far back,' Snitker said. Acuña doubled on the first pitch from Germán Márquez and scored on Olson's sacrifice fly. Acuña added singles in the third and fifth innings for his third consecutive three-hit game. When asked what Acuña brings to the lineup, Harris said 'Energy. He's an MVP. You know the talent is there. He brings a lot of energy at the (leadoff) spot.' Acuña stole second base in the fifth on his first attempt since returning on May 23 after missing almost a full season following surgery on his left knee. 'I was wondering if he was on a restriction,' said Harris of Acuña's wait for his first steal. 'Obviously, the speed is still there.' It was Acuña's first stolen base since May 25, 2024 at Pittsburgh, a span of 385 days. It was an encouraging sign of confidence in the surgically repaired knee for Acuña, who was NL MVP in 2023 when he hit 41 homers and had 73 steals. 'He's hit the ground running since he's been back, that's for sure,' Snitker said. 'His at-bats have been not like he missed the significant amount of time he missed.' Harris, hitting only .238, has driven in 41 runs. He has hit three of his six homers in the last six games. 'Obviously, I want my average to be up a good amount, but I feel I've been able to get some key RBIs through the season,' Harris said. The Braves have been below .500 most of the season and their recent stretch of six straight series losses led to speculation they might be sellers instead of buyers at the trade deadline. 'I don't think we really think about that much,' Harris said. '... It's just worrying about who's here now.'

How 'competitive monster' Alex Caruso helped Thunder get Game 4 win over Pacers

How 'competitive monster' Alex Caruso helped Thunder get Game 4 win over Pacers INDIANAPOLIS — After another stellar performance that added to his playoff riser mythos, Alex Caruso was asked which superhero he relates to. He answered Robin because, of course, he did. The future head coach already has the media cliches down to a tee. Maybe Dick Grayson, though. Or The Incredible Hulk. Caruso finished with 20 points on 7-of-9 shooting and three rebounds. He shot 1-of-2 from 3 and went 5-of-7 on free throws. He also had five steals. The Oklahoma City Thunder won a thriller in a 111-104 Game 4 win over the Indiana Pacers. In a do-or-die scenario, OKC did just enough to accomplish its road trip goal and split the 2025 NBA Finals at 2-2 apiece. After failing to score 20 points once in the regular season, Caruso has done it twice in the NBA Finals. In the season's biggest fourth quarter, the Thunder trusted the 31-year-old to close as the fifth player. The move paid off as it was OKC's turn to have a 20-point bench scorer. But with Caruso, everybody knows his bread and butter is on defense. He was a beast on that end of the floor. Made any comparisons to TJ McConnell look silly. He's a fine ball player, but the 31-year-old can impact the game beyond three anomaly inbound steals. "I mean, he's a competitive monster clearly. He's proven that time and again over his career. Certainly in these playoffs," Thunder head coach Mark Daigneault said about Caruso. "He was huge tonight. Offensively even early in the game. But yeah, both ends, help on ball. I can't say enough about him as a competitor." Shai Gilgeous-Alexander expressed a similar sentiment. The MVP winner saw firsthand what Caruso's presence has done to the Thunder. Nothing against Josh Giddey, but he wouldn't have shifted the odds over to OKC in the fourth quarter with his off-ball activity. "I've said this before, but he has a championship ring for a reason. It's no coincidence. He knows what it takes. He put the work in. He's proving it every night," Gilgeous-Alexander said. "But he's a big-time performer. Big-time teammate. Big-time winner. If you want to win basketball games, you have a guy like that on your team. We're lucky to have him." This is why the Thunder traded for Caruso. He was a step ahead of the Pacers' passes. Their pass-happy offense hurt them against him. He had five steals by being a millisecond ahead of Indiana's next move. He continues to add chapters to his legendary playoff run. "The way that this place erupts when they go on runs or hit shots, you have to stay present and realize what the actual time and score of the game is. Like, I don't remember the play right before that, but I remember they're a little excited. I think somebody was shooting free throws," Caruso said. " When we came to the bench, it was a one-possession game. Even if it makes it, it's a two-possession game with almost four minutes to play. There's lot of possessions left in this game. We never wavered, never thought we might lose this game. We were concentrating on trying to win it, on trying to solve the puzzle, figure out a way to make plays down the stretch to win the game."

Rivals Camp Series: The five best LBs of the 2025 regionals

Jeff McCulloch/ The regional stops of the Rivals Camp Series are in the books with the Rivals Five-Star at the Indianapolis Colts' practice facility coming up later this month. Today, we continue our look at the best players at each position through the regional events with the linebackers. The combination of sheer size and power impressed in tight quarters while he also showed he can operate in space while working coverage as well. Advertisement Following the MVP effort, more than a dozen scholarship offers would eventually come in for the late-bloomer. Darensburg eventually made a verbal commitment to South Alabama on June 9. The IMG Academy star worked out at both pass rusher and linebacker during the Atlanta stop of the tour, showcasing grit and overall competitiveness against a loaded field of players. While Forkpa held his own off the edge, he was ultra comfortable at the second level, too powerful for blockers in one setting yet swift and effective while working in coverage. One of the top testers nationally at the position, Forkpa proved it was plenty functional en route to MVP honors near his hometown. Advertisement Those elite traits have Florida, Florida State, Miami, Colorado and others positioning for a potential commitment. Jeff McCulloch/ An elite pass rusher who led the Orlando-area in sacks as a junior, Lafayette has showed more second-level ability as the offseason has rolled on as well. He is plenty capable working off the edge as a third-down specialist, but has shown overall athleticism and lateral ability from an off-ball position as well. The edge talent is so immense a coordinator may not ask for many coverage reps, but the linear speed and physicality Lafayette brings to the table has created a benefit-of-the-doubt with plenty of programs courting his commitment. Advertisement Miami, Oklahoma, Florida and several others are angling for more time from the rising-senior recruit. Jeff McCulloch/ The camp setting isn't the most friendly to the linebacker position, especially in coverage with so much space to operate for running backs on the other side of the ball. Still, Pettijohn pushed against that narrative successfully when it came to that portion of the event. He showcased hip fluidity and comfort in transitioning from one direction to the other, allowing the Texan to make plays against routes both intermediate and deep. Also built to contend in the running game, the balance led to MVP honors at the Dallas RCS stop. Advertisement Pettijohn is hearing from Syracuse and SMU, among others, while adding his most recent offer from Sam Houston State. Jeff McCulloch/ Amid official visits to bluebloods this month, Thomas' name has picked up pace nationally and our staff got that preview at the RCS Dallas stop more than a month ago. The big 'backer stands 6-foot-3 and was once considered more of a pass-rusher, but the camp effort and his subsequent recruitment confirmed a three-down projection. Auburn, Michigan and others have hosted him and Texas is on deck at the end of June.
