Housewife charged with holding 205 Malaysian passports, fake and stolen MyKad in Puchong raid
N Paarvathy entered the plea after the charges were read out before Magistrate Muhammad Syafiq Sulaiman.
According to the first charge, she was accused of being in possession of 205 Malaysian passports under Section 12(1)(f) of the Passports Act 1966, which carries a maximum fine of RM10,000, imprisonment of up to five years, or both, upon conviction.
For the second and third charges, she was accused of possessing a fake MyKad in the name of a 24-year-old man, as well as three MyKads belonging to men aged 19, 21, and 31, without a reasonable excuse.
The offences were allegedly committed at a condominium unit in Taman Puchong Hartamas, Puchong, at 12.10 am on July 11.
The second and third charges were brought under Regulations 25(1)(o) and 25(1)(e) of the National Registration Regulations 1990, which carry a maximum penalty of three years' imprisonment, a fine of up to RM20,000, or both, upon conviction.
Deputy public prosecutor Norhidayah Abdullah Sani proposed that bail be set at RM30,000 for all charges, with an additional condition that the accused report to the nearest police station once a month.
However, the accused's counsel, Yogamani M Marappan, appealed for minimum bail, citing that his client was unemployed and financially dependent on her husband.
The magistrate allowed bail at RM15,000 for all charges with one surety, and fixed case mention for Sept 22. — Bernama

'If the court grants bail, there is a risk of the accused fleeing because during the arrest, one of the accused tried to escape. 'However, if the court grants bail, I request that each accused be granted bail of RM60,000 along with the additional condition that they must report to the nearest police station and surrender their passports to the court,' he said. Lawyer Hazwan Hassan, representing the two men, requested the court to grant his clients bail between RM10,000 and RM15,000 with certain additional conditions, as bail is only to ensure the accused's attendance in court. Mohd Syaqir works as a salesman and earns RM2,000 per month. He supports his mother, who has stage four cancer, and he just recovered from paralysis after being involved in an accident in August last year. 'Meanwhile, Nur Mohamed Mahsar, who also works as a salesman and earns RM2,000 a month, has to support his wife and two young children,' the lawyer said, adding that there was no risk of the two accused fleeing. High Court sentences man to hang for brutal murder of Bangladeshi worker in Perak
IPOH, Aug 8 — The High Court here today sentenced a man to death by hanging for killing a Bangladeshi man in Sungai Kinta, Sungai Galah area, Kampung Gajah in Perak Tengah district, seven years ago. Judge Su Tiang Joo sentenced Mohamad Amier Amzar Mohamad Aspar, 28, after the man was found guilty of killing MD Ovaidul, 32, at the location between 8.20pm and 10.25pm, December 15, 2018, under Section 302 of the Penal Code. Su in his judgment said he agreed with the prosecution that the murder was premeditated and committed in an extremely brutal manner by the convict. 'It could have caused much pain and agony to the deceased over a prolonged period of time in between the beating in his house and then being taken to the riverbank before the fatal cut was administered by the accused and the body unceremoniously dumped into the river to hide traces of the crime. 'In other words, the death was not sudden and quick. In the second circumstances, I accept the presumptions of the prosecution that the death sentence would be appropriate and I sentence the convict to be punished with death and pursuant to Section 277 of the Criminal Procedure Code, the accused is to be hanged by the neck until he is dead,' he said. Su said he found that there are more aggravating circumstances than mitigating circumstances, among them are the convict interfering with prosecution witness, the pain and suffering from the injury suffered and the extent of the injuries, and the accused dumping the body of the deceased into the river. 'The convict is a Malaysian and the deceased a Bangladeshi national. This is a neutral circumstance because under Article 8, Sub-Article 1 of our Federal Constitution, all persons are equal before the law and are entitled to the equal protection of the law,' he said. Earlier, MD Hossain Khan, the victim's brother, also delivered a victim impact statement with the help of an interpreter on behalf of his family in Bangladesh. MD Hossain said MD Ovaidul was the third of six siblings with both parents still alive, besides the family was dependent on the victim working in Malaysia to support their livelihood in Bangladesh. 'Before the incident, my brother had told me that he planned to return to Bangladesh within a month to get married. 'Our family had made preparations in the village, but those dreams were shattered when he was brutally murdered and more sadly, murdered by the son of his own employer, the accused,' he said. MD Hossain said the death of MD Ovaidul left a deep impression on him and his family because his younger brother was not a criminal but a good son and brother and was the hope of the family. 'My younger brother did not die of illness, did not die of an accident but he died because he was brutally murdered by the person who was supposed to protect him as an employer. Four suspects remanded after Kedah cop killed in Taman Golf incident
ALOR SETAR, Aug 8 — Four men, who were in a sports utility vehicle (SUV) and are suspected of fatally hitting a policeman in an incident at Taman Golf, here, yesterday, have been remanded for seven days, starting today. The remand order, issued by Magistrate Siti Nor Hasliza Md Ali at the Alor Setar Court Complex, will allow investigations under Section 302 of the Penal Code to continue until Aug 14. Before the proceedings, the suspects, aged between 24 and 26, were brought to the court complex in a police van at 8.45 am and left the premises at about 9.55 am. Yesterday, the media reported that a policeman was killed after being struck by an SUV with four men on board, believed to be criminals attempting to flee after committing a burglary at a house in Taman Golf. In the 3.30 pm incident, the victim, Corporal Mohd Hafizul Izham Mazlan, 35, of the Kedah contingent police headquarters' Criminal Investigation Department, died at the scene from severe injuries. — Bernama
