'He ticks every box': Goodwin delighted to add Eskesen to Dundee United midfield

Dundee United manager Jim Goodwin believes he has signed a midfielder who 'ticks all the boxes' after Julius Eskesen joined the club. The Dane has agreed a two-year deal, with the option for another year, after United signed him from FK Haugesund. Eskesen began his career with Odense Boldklub and was a Danish youth international, as well as picking up European experience, in his time at the club. He moved to Sonderjyske five years ago and had a successful spell there before moving to Haugesund in 2022. Goodwin says the 26-year-old is moving at the right age, and has a lot of qualities that should see him thrive at Tannadice, where he has been handed the number ten shirt. 'Julius is another carefully considered addition who aligns with our overarching recruitment strategy,' he said. 'We're targeting players with proven quality, extensive experience at a high level, and the desire to be part of a competitive and ambitious squad. Julius ticks every one of those boxes. 'He offers a rare blend of technical quality, tactical intelligence, and tenacity in the middle of the park — he doesn't shy away from the physical side of the game, which is essential in a league as physically demanding as the Scottish Premiership. 'Julius also gives me flexibility. He can play as a deeper-lying, combative midfielder or push forward and influence the game in the final third, whilst his set-piece delivery is second to none. 'We've made it clear we want to construct a squad not just for the short term, but for sustained success – Julius fits that model perfectly. He's still at a great age, he's hungry to improve, and he's chosen to come here because he believes in what we're building at Dundee United.' Gianluigi Donnarumma breaks silence on being forced out by PSG in cryptic message - with Man City among clubs interested in £40m Italy star

Gianluigi Donnarumma has hit out at Paris Saint-Germain for freezing him out of the club as he confirmed he would be leaving the French giants this summer. The Italian star, 26, is widely regarded as one of the best goalkeepers in the world but has been effectively banished from the PSG first team. Reports in France had claimed he has been sidelined from training after being told by club chiefs that Lucas Chevalier, a £48million arrival from Lille, would be their new No 1. And Donnarumma seemingly confirmed those reports as he posted a farewell message to PSG fans on social media on Tuesday. 'Unfortunately, someone has decided that I can no longer be part of the group and contribute to the team's success,' he said. 'I am disappointed and disheartened.' PSG have pushed Donnarumma to the exit door after being unable to agree a new contract, which expires next summer. It was confirmed on Monday that he had been axed from the squad for the Super Cup final against Spurs in Italy on Wednesday. — GIANLUIGI DONNARUMMA (@donnarumma) August 12, 2025 His impending departure has attracted the attention of several European giants, including Manchester City and Manchester United, although the Red Devils are not thought to be in the race for his signature. Pep Guardiola's side are considering a move for the Italian with Galatasaray interested in Ederson. City have already signed goalkeeper James Trafford for £31m this summer and the returning star is primed to be the club's new No 1. PSG are likely to want around £40m for Donnarumma, who has also attracted interest from Real Madrid and clubs in Saudi Arabia. The goalkeeper, who reportedly earns around £200,000-a-week at the Ligue 1 club, thanked his team-mates and fans in his message. 'I hope to have the opportunity to look the fans at the Parc des Princes in the eyes one more time and say goodbye as it should be done,' he added. 'If that doesn't happen, I want you to know that your support and affection mean the world to me, and I will never forget it.' Donnarumma has made 161 appearances for PSG since joining the club from AC Milan back in 2021 on a free transfer. He has won four Ligue 1 titles, two French Cups, three French Super Cups and the Champions League while at the club. Donnarumma has also enjoyed success with Italy having helped his nation be crowned European champions back in 2021.
