'He ticks every box': Goodwin delighted to add Eskesen to Dundee United midfield
The Dane has agreed a two-year deal, with the option for another year, after United signed him from FK Haugesund.
Eskesen began his career with Odense Boldklub and was a Danish youth international, as well as picking up European experience, in his time at the club. He moved to Sonderjyske five years ago and had a successful spell there before moving to Haugesund in 2022.
Goodwin says the 26-year-old is moving at the right age, and has a lot of qualities that should see him thrive at Tannadice, where he has been handed the number ten shirt.
'Julius is another carefully considered addition who aligns with our overarching recruitment strategy,' he said. 'We're targeting players with proven quality, extensive experience at a high level, and the desire to be part of a competitive and ambitious squad. Julius ticks every one of those boxes.
'He offers a rare blend of technical quality, tactical intelligence, and tenacity in the middle of the park — he doesn't shy away from the physical side of the game, which is essential in a league as physically demanding as the Scottish Premiership.
'Julius also gives me flexibility. He can play as a deeper-lying, combative midfielder or push forward and influence the game in the final third, whilst his set-piece delivery is second to none.
'We've made it clear we want to construct a squad not just for the short term, but for sustained success – Julius fits that model perfectly. He's still at a great age, he's hungry to improve, and he's chosen to come here because he believes in what we're building at Dundee United.'

David Gray spells out Hibs second leg danger - but protection is not part of the plan
Hibs in 'brilliant' position but with work still to do to reach Conference League play-off Sign up to our Football newsletter Sign up Thank you for signing up! David Gray urged his Hibs players to go all out for victory as they bid to kill off Partizan Belgrade and book their place in the Conference League play-off round. The Hibees pulled off a 2-0 win in Serbia last Thursday to put themselves firmly in the driving seat to face the loser of the tie between AEK Larnaca and Legia Warsaw in the next round. Advertisement Hide Ad Advertisement Hide Ad But Gray is not taking progress for granted and has urged his side, who squandered a 2-0 lead in Sunday's 2-2 draw at home to Kilmarnock in the William Hill Premiership, go into Thursday's second leg at Easter Road with the mindset that the tie is still level. (Photo by Ewan Bootman / SNS Group) | SNS Group 'It's half-time in the tie, nothing's been achieved yet, other than we're in a brilliant position,' said the Hibs boss on Wednesday. 'But it's 0-0 in this game. We go into every single game trying to win the game, and we'll be no different going in tomorrow night with that mindset. 'If you try and hold on and protect and protect and protect, you'll leave yourself exposed, so I will definitely be approaching the game as if it's 0-0 with all to play for. 'We know the threat and the danger that Partizan possess. But it's another sell-out at Easter Road, European night, under the lights. We know how good the atmosphere was in the Midtjylland game and I expect it to be exactly the same again. Everything's geared up for a fantastic night, hopefully.' (Photo by Ewan Bootman / SNS Group) | SNS Group 'They will come and have a go' Hibs capitalised on Partizan being reduced to 10 men last week and Gray remains wary of the threat posed by the Serbs, who won 7-2 at Napredak on Sunday. 'They'll be full of confidence,' said the manager, who welcomes Nicky Cadden back from injury. 'They made a few changes on Sunday and had good players coming in so whatever eleven they select, they'll be good players. 'They're a young, fearless side, we saw that when they went down to 10 men because they still threw absolutely everything at it. I fully expect it to be exactly the same again with the intensity, the way they press, the way they come after us, and they've got real good quality technical players. 'It'll be another huge test for us and we need to be at our very best to make sure we get a positive result. O'Riley 'keen' to join Juventus as deal hinges on key factor
The Dane joined Brighton and Hove Albion from the Scottish Premiership champions last summer. O'Riley's start to life on the south coast couldn't have gone any worse, as he was stretchered off six minutes into his Brighton debut against Crawley Town. He went on to make 23 appearances during his first year at the club, although he could be on the move this summer. Read more: Indeed, Fabrizio Romano reports that O'Riley is keen to join Juventus, and he is on their three-man shortlist of midfield targets. The Italian giants are said to be considering a loan deal with an obligation to buy, although they can only make a move if and when another midfielder - likely Douglas Luiz - departs. 🚨⚪️⚫️ Matt O'Riley, keen on Juventus move after talks took place to ask for deal conditions. Understand Juventus are considering a loan with obligation deal but only if/when a midfielder (Douglas Luiz) leaves. O'Riley, part of 3 men shortlist. 🎥🇮🇹 — Fabrizio Romano (@FabrizioRomano) August 13, 2025 O'Riley played 124 times across two-and-a-half years at Celtic. He won three Scottish Premiership titles, two Scottish Cups, and one League Cup. Speaking to The Celtic Way last week, O'Riley said: "I still follow all the games. "Even though I don't post that much on social media, I'm still watching every single game and trying to keep tabs on them. "I'm still in contact with people. It's hard in football to keep contact with everybody because it moves so fast and things change, but I did make some good friends up there, and I'm still in contact with a lot of staff at Celtic, which has been nice."
