Deakin University GIFT City organises its first student-led mega event

Gandhinagar (Gujarat) [India], April 28: Deakin University GIFT City Campus hosted its landmark student-led event, Deakin CyberClash 2025, on Friday, 25th April 2025. This inaugural mega event drew wide participation and enthusiasm, bringing together the brightest minds in cybersecurity from across the region.
The high-energy competition featured more than 10 teams, each comprising two members, who battled it out in a dynamic Red Team (Attackers) vs. Blue Team (Defenders) format. Participants navigated two intense rounds addressing five vulnerabilities, simulating real-world cyberattack and defence scenarios with strategic precision and technical expertise.
Spearheaded by the students of Deakin University GIFT City as part of their club initiative, CyberClash marked a major milestone in cultivating student leadership and collaborative learning.
Chandan Hegde, one of the lead student organisers, reflected on the experience saying, 'Hosting Deakin CyberClash was an incredible learning opportunity. It was challenging yet deeply rewarding to see our vision come to life and witness such vibrant engagement from participants.'
The competition was judged by a distinguished panel of experts which included Sameer Kulkarni, Senior Vice President, IT Infrastructure and Security, Decimal Point Analytics and Dr. Nilesh Kumar Purey, Chief Technology Officer, GIFT City Ltd.
Mr. Kulkarni applauded the talent on display, 'The level of expertise and innovation shown today is truly impressive. Events like CyberClash are essential to nurturing a culture of cybersecurity awareness and excellence.'
Dr. Purey added, 'This competition provided young professionals a platform to simulate real-world cybersecurity challenges. The dedication and talent on display was nothing short of inspiring.'
David Das, Head of Campus Operations, Deakin University GIFT City, shared that,' We are incredibly proud to host our first-ever student-led competition. CyberClash reflects the quality and ambition of our students and our commitment to preparing future-ready professionals in cybersecurity.'
Participants hailed from leading institutions across Gujarat and beyond, including Gujarat and beyond, including Rashtriya Raksha University, Pandit Deendayal Energy University , National Forensic Science University, and many others. They were particularly impressed by the state-of-the-art infrastructure and the immersive learning environment at the Deakin GIFT City campus.
Shubham, who took part in the event, expressed his enthusiasm, 'The infrastructure at Deakin is exceptional. It created an authentic, real-time experience. Hats off to the student organisers for a well-executed, inspiring event.'
The event concluded with a prize distribution ceremony with winners receiving significant rewards, including cash prizes for winners, first runners-up, and second runners-up. Judges and faculty alike congratulated all teams for their exemplary performance and encouraged them to continue pushing the boundaries of innovation in cybersecurity.
Marking bold steps, Deakin University, Australia, a global leader in education and research, is proud to announce the Deakin GIFT City Meritorious Scholarships 2025, an initiative to recognize and support exceptional students in India. Through this, eight outstanding students, four from each program among those who enroll for the July 2025 intake will receive a 25% waiver on tuition fees for the entire duration of their two-year program. These scholarships are awarded to exceptionally high-achieving students, making them a remarkable opportunity for deserving candidates.

According to standards set by Boeing and the International Civil Aviation Organization, the 787-9 requires a Category 9 rescue and firefighting service (RFFS), whereas Naples International Airport provides Category 8 — sufficient only for smaller wide-body aircraft like the 787-8. Aviation enthusiast and commentator @xJonNYC first brought attention to the incident on social media platform X, citing airport sources who confirmed the larger 787-9 variant is not permitted to land in Naples. After safely landing in Rome, passengers were transferred to Naples by bus — a journey of roughly 145 miles that takes over two hours by road. American Airlines issued an apology, stating, 'We apologize to our customers for this disruption to their journey.' The diverted aircraft later departed Rome for Chicago as Flight 111, resuming its transatlantic operations. The incident marks the second time this week that passengers were rerouted by bus after flight diversions. In a separate case on Wednesday, a Ryanair flight in Europe diverted due to turbulence caused by a thunderstorm, with passengers transferred by road from Memmingen, Germany, to Milan.

As a kid in Portage, he dreamed of becoming a NASCAR driver that people talked about. The 22-year-old Hocevar got his wish. He knocked Ricky Stenhouse Jr. out of last week's race at Nashville and his aggressive style has created a buzz in a sport that traditionally has young drivers trying to find the line between aggressive and reckless driving. "It's cool to be talked about," Hocevar said Saturday, a day ahead of the FireKeepers Casino 400. "Obviously, you want to be talked about maybe in a different light. "But I mean, at least they're talking, right? And, I think that's big for me." Hocevar called Stenhouse earlier in the week to discuss their contact on Lap 106 of 300 at Nashville, where Stenhouse was bumped from behind and sent into a wall. Both said the conversation was productive. "I don't think he crashed me on purpose," Stenhouse said. "But I think he was super impatient. "We've never had any issues. He's had plenty of issues with other people." Hocevar, in his second full Cup season, was behind only winner Ryan Blaney at Nashville to match the career-best, second-place finish he had earlier this year. At the race in Atlanta, several drivers complained about Hocevar over the radio or some addressed their concerns face to face in pit lane. Blaney, who got turned by Hocevar in the final stage of the race, and Ross Chastain confronted him in February. Chastain sounded frustrated that Hocevar, who drives the No. 77 Chevrolet for Spire Motorsports, has not appeared to learn from his mistakes. His latest move was reckless, Chastain said. NASCAR's "In-season Challenge" will begin seeding drivers Sunday and at the following two races in Mexico City and at Pocono. The results will create a field of 32 drivers, who will race for a $1 million prize over a five-race competition that starts June 28 at Atlanta. Single elimination will reduce the field to 16 in Chicago, eight at Sonoma, four in Dover and the final two on July 27 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The NBA has had success with a similar format. "It's like the March Madness bracket," said Blaney, whose No. 12 Ford finished first last week at Nashville. "You want to do well to seed yourself against an easier opponent. "It could be big. It could grow. I think it's a great idea. Why not try it? You're still going to have racing. It's just going to be a race within the race between all the guys." Denny Hamlin is prepared to leave his No. 11 Toyota behind this weekend to join his fiancé, Jordan, who is due to give birth to a baby boy — their third child — at any time.
