Japanese Band TOKIO Officially Disbands Following Controversy Involving Member
According to an interview, the group had decided to disband following internal conflict involving one of their members, Kokubun Taichi (国分太一). Taichi had reportedly been implicated in a case related to sexual assault, which led to tension within the band and ultimately influenced their decision to part ways.
Last week (20th June, Friday) Nippon TV, a network that the band had been working with for years, announced that they were dropping Taichi due to issues related to sexual harassment. 'This is entirely due to my lack of awareness, my naivety, and my complacency,' he said. 'I've caused great inconvenience to so many people. I deeply regret my actions and will be stepping away from all work without a set return date.'
Since then, the pianist had gone on an indefinite hiatus, stepping away from all public and entertainment activities to reflect on his actions. While this move was intended as a gesture of accountability, it did little to mend the damage done to the band he is associated with.
As the controversy continued to cast a long shadow over the idols, TOKIO eventually made the painful decision to bring all group activities to an end. 'Given the current situation,' the group wrote in an official statement, 'we concluded that regaining the trust and support of our fans would be extremely difficult. As such, we've decided to put a full stop to our group activities.'
In their farewell message, TOKIO expressed heartfelt gratitude to everyone who had supported them throughout their three-decade-long career. While the disbandment marked the end of an era, many fans continue to hold out hope that the remaining members will overcome these hardships and find new purpose in their solo endeavours—carrying the spirit of TOKIO forward in their own unique ways.

#SHOWBIZ: BlackPink makes history at Wembley Stadium
LONDON: BlackPink proved once again why they are the biggest girl group on the planet, as they lit up Wembley Stadium last weekend. The K-pop queens made history as the first South Korean female act to ever headline the legendary venue, performing in front of a sold-out crowd of 70,000 screaming fans, as reported by BBC News. The four members — Jisoo, Jennie, Rosé, and Lisa — now share the same stage as icons like Michael Jackson, Taylor Swift, BTS, and Oasis. Fans were treated to a two-and-a-half-hour show filled with superb choreography, stadium-shaking music, and plenty of heartfelt moments. The group's close bond shone just as brightly as the stage lights. Lisa called the moment "an absolute honour," while Jennie admitted it still felt "a little unreal," and Rosé summed it up as "a whole other level." The Wembley set marked the end of the European leg of their Deadline world tour, which covers 31 dates in 16 cities. The tour kicked off in Seoul with the release of their new track, 'Jump'. The single has already made history on YouTube, amassing 26 million views in just 24 hours. The tour itself is on track to break BlackPink's own record for the highest-grossing tour by a female group, a record they previously set in 2023 when they surpassed the Spice Girls. The only other K-pop act to headline Wembley is BTS, making BlackPink's achievement even more groundbreaking.

#SHOWBIZ: Jackson Wang cancels Music Korea Fan Event after emergency hospitalisation
SEOUL: K-pop idol Jackson Wang's busy schedule was temporarily paused on Friday when he was rushed to the emergency room with food poisoning at midnight. The medical emergency led to the immediate cancellation of his Music Korea Fan Sign Event, which was scheduled for the following day, as reported by the Korea JoongAng Daily. This setback comes just months after the former GOT7 member released his second album, 'Magic Man 2', in July. Since leaving JYP Entertainment in 2021 to pursue a solo career, the artiste has become well-known for his powerful vocals and smooth dance moves. Wang now faces a quick recovery to get back on track with his tight schedule, which leads up to his ambitious 'Magic Man 2' world tour, kicking off in October. The Asian leg of the tour includes major cities like Bangkok, Jakarta, Manila, and Tokyo, as well as a show in Kuala Lumpur on Oct 25.
