Managing Celtic – Decision made on £11m double deal and another goal machine targeted
With just over three weeks of the transfer window remaining, there are still significant holes for Celtic boss Brendan Rodgers to plug in his squad Celtic's summer business is far from over, with three areas in need of attention before the transfer deadline. Brendan Rodgers is keen for attacking reinforcements, having lost Kyogo Furuhashi and Nicolas Kuhn to big-money transfers this year and seen Jota suffer a long-term injury towards the end of last season. An attacking wide player and some added defensive depth are also needed as the Hoops look to continue their domestic dominance. New signings, and soon, would also be welcome with the Champions League play-off against Kairat Almaty or Slovan Bratislava looming later this month. With less than a month to go before the September 1 deadline, here's how a dream final few weeks of the window could shake out for Celtic … Decision looms over £6m star Celtic have been told how much they will need to pay to sign Adam Obert. The Cagliari defender is on the Hoops' radar, with Rodgers keen to strengthen his back line. They've reportedly had a bid for the 22-year-old rejected by the Italian side. A fresh report in Italy claims an opening bid of £3million was well short of Cagliari's valuation, believed to be £6m. It remains to be seen whether Celtic will be prepared to double their offer or try to strike a compromise. If they do, it would be a real statement of intent to both fans and to Rodgers, who has made it clear he doesn't want the club to standstill. Obert has interest from elsewhere, with Belgian club Royal Antwerp believed to be monitoring the left-sided defender. Cagliari can afford to hold out for the best possible deal with his contract not due to expire until 2029. £5m target open on future Celtic will also have to dig deeper to land another target this summer, Danish winger Jakob Breum. The Hoops' £1.5m offer to Go Ahead Eagles earlier this summer was swiftly rejected, with the Eredivisie outfit wanting closer to £5m. Record Sport understands the Deventer-based side are standing firm on their valuation because 25 per cent of his next transfer fee will go to Breum's former club, Odense, as part of a sell-on clause. Breum was absent from Go Ahead's most recent match-day squad, although Dutch media has reported that was due to knock and not related to the speculation around his future. Breum himself recently hinted that he could move on before the window slams. He told ESPN: "Time will tell. There's still one month left, but as long as I'm here, I'll do my best. It's a boring answer, but that's the way it is. Now that important players have left, other players have to step up." Those comments should keep Celtic interested if they are prepared to make an improved bid. Celtic wait on Champions League progress Celtic will be keeping a close eye on Slovan's Champions League qualifying fortunes amid their interest in David Strelec. The Slovakia star was a target in January, with the Hoops reportedly seeing a £7million bid rejected. His stock remains high after he ended last season with 25 goals in 47 matches across all competitions. Strelec appears to have carried that form into this season, scoring in both legs of the Champions League second qualifying round victory over Bosnian outfit Zrinjski Mostar. However, Slovan's hopes of further progression hang in the balance following their 1-0 first leg third qualifying round defeat to Kairat, with Celtic awaiting the winners. It has been claimed that if Slovan fail to reach the money-spinning league phase, they may look to cash in on their prized asset. Ex-Slovan midfielder Peter Duris believes Strelec has potential to step up the next level. He told Sport24: "There aren't many number nines like him [Strelec] at the moment. I see him in one of the big European clubs. I don't think he has to worry at all about not making it abroad. "He's playing in top form. He's also exceptional in that he's left-footed and scores goals. He has been very well trained and I am very pleasantly surprised by him.'

Hundreds of shoppers queue at Stirling shopping centre as new Sostrene Grene store opens
The first 100 shoppers received free gifts when the store opened at Stirling's Thistles Shopping Centre on Friday morning. Hundreds of shoppers have been queuing at a Stirling shopping centre since before it opened at 9am this morning ahead of the grand opening of the Danish homeware retailer Søstrene Grene's newest Scottish store. The store at Stirling's Thistles Shopping Centre opened today (Friday) at 10am – with the first 100 customers being handed freebies. That led to queues of shoppers at the centre, eagerly anticipating the opening. The Stirling Observer understands that the first customers in the queue to access the shop were four students from Stirling University. The Danish retailer has brought its 'signature Scandinavian design, ever-changing seasonal collections and calm, curated shopping experience to the heart of Scotland'. The outlet stocks homewares, kitchen accessories, furniture, gifts and craft supplies. To celebrate the launch, the first 100 customers through the doors received a voucher for a free large, tufted rug worth over £60. Visitors also received a canvas tote bag filled with Søstrene Grene goodies. Stirling marks the company's seventh Scottish store. It comes after the opening of the Livingston store late last year. Prior to the store opening, Mikkel Grene, CEO and co-owner of Søstrene Grene, said: 'Opening our seventh store in Scotland, Stirling is a further step towards our expansion goals. We're incredibly proud of and a testament to the strong connection people in Scotland have with our brand. 'Stirling's rich history, with historic landmarks makes it a perfect location to share our Scandi-inspired products and calming shopping experience. We're excited to welcome both new and loyal customers to explore what Søstrene Grene has to offer and continue to grow throughout Scotland.' UK Partners Norma Jacob and Richard Power run Søstrene Grene shops throughout Northern Ireland, Southern England, Scotland and Wales. Norma Jacob said: 'Opening in Stirling means bringing Søstrene Grene's unique blend of simplicity and creativity to a community that truly appreciates both. We're offering more than just products; it's about creating a space where customers can find inspiration and a moment of calm in their busy day. Stirling's character fits perfectly with what we stand for and we're excited to connect with the local community through every visit.' Thistles Centre Director, Gary Turnbull, previously expressed his enthusiasm for the new addition to the shopping centre, saying: 'Søstrene Grene will be a welcome addition to Thistles. The unique blend of Scandinavian design and affordability will bring a homely feel to our range of offerings, and we're sure shoppers will love discovering its charming, ever-changing selection. Excitement has been building as we approach opening day, and we know our shoppers are just as eager as we are to welcome Søstrene Grene to Stirling.'

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) GO AHEAD EAGLES sporting director Jan Willem van Dop has urged Celtic to follow Rangers' example and get transfer deals done quickly. The Dutch club sold winger Oliver Antman this week to Rangers in a £4.4 million deal and he made an immediate impact as Russell Martin's side romped to a 3-0 first leg victory over Viktoria Plzen in the third qualifying round of the Champions League. And van Dop has compared the Glasgow giants' transfer dealings. He said: "There was some interest from Celtic for Jakob Breum, but we felt the gap was too wide. "Things moved very quickly with Oliver Antman and Glasgow Rangers. "Celtic could have taken a leaf out of Rangers' book, ha ha." Breum picked up an ankle injury in last week's Johan Cruyff Shield and missed last night's game against Fortuna Sittard, but boss Melvin Boel has indicated he will return next weekend.
