Second housemate of Pheobe Bishop on Gin Gin property faces weapons-related charges as desperate search for Queensland missing teenager continues

Sky News AU4 days ago

A second housemate of missing teenager Pheobe Bishop's has been charged with weapons-related offences after his partner faced court on similar counts just a few days prior.
Gin Gin couple Tanika Bromley and James Wood were the last people 17-year-old Pheobe was seen with.
The pair drove the now missing teen in a grey Hyundai ix35 to Airport Drive, Bundaberg, on the morning of May 15.
The teen was scheduled to fly from Bundaberg to Western Australia, via Brisbane, but never made it to her flight.
Footage from the airport also failed to locate Pheobe ever entering the terminal, despite her housemates claiming she was dropped off.
Days after her disappearance, police established two crime scenes at the Gin Gin property she was living in with Wood and Bromley, and the grey Hyundai she was last seen in.
On Wednesday night police charged Wood with one count each of unlawful possession of weapons Category D/H/R (short firearm) and authority to possess explosives.
"Police have charged a man with weapons offences, after police allegedly located a shortened firearm and ammunition during a search of a grey Hyundai ix35 and a Gin Gin home, both of which had been declared crime scenes for an unrelated matter," Queensland Police wrote in a statment.
Wood, 34, has been given a notice to appear before Bundaberg Magistrates Court on June 13.
Bromley, 33, also faces weapons charges after she was arrested in Bundaberg on Sunday, with offences including possession of restricted items and unlawful possession of weapons.
Police allegedly located a shortened firearm, ammunition and two replica handguns, inside her grey Hyundai, but she was granted bail for her offences on Tuesday.
Magistrate John McInnes told Bundaberg Magistrates Court, the 33-year-old seemed to have an "unhealthy interest" in weaponry, but her limited criminal record and possible subjections to "coercion, violence and duress" were in her favour, the ABC reported.
She was granted bail with a curfew, and an order to report to the police station three times a week.
Bromley was seen in public for the first time on Wednesday during a mandatory reporting to the Gin Gin Police station, as part of her bail conditions.
The mother-of-two was hounded by journalists with questions relating to Pheobe's disappearance as she was leaving the station, but she remained silent with her head down in a hoodie, while gazing outside the car window.
Her matter is set to return to court on June 23.
Tanika Bromley's brother, Sean, told SkyNews.com.au his sister had previously been "caught with guns" and "went off the rails" after becoming involved with Wood.
"My mother was constantly worried about Tanika and about her grandchildren, Tanika was off the rails," he said.
"We all knew she had gone off the rails, so we and many others contacted police, media, children, and animal welfare."
Detective Inspector Ryan Thompson said the weapons found in Ms Bromley's car had not been linked to Pheobe's disappearance.
Sky News also makes no suggestions Wood or Bromley were involved in Pheobe's disappearance.
'That vehicle was seized by police, it was treated as a crime scene. A number of examinations were conducted on that vehicle and items seized and that has since been released by police,' Det Insp Thompson said.
'There's no suggestion at all that this weapon was involved in this investigation …'
As police now look to further locations for evidence relating to Pheobe, a bushland search of the Good Night Scrub has been suspended after five days of scouring through rugged terrain.
Specialist police, including the Dog Squad, worked alongside rescue helicopters, divers, and the SES to search the dense bushland and waterways in the area, but the search was called off late Tuesday afternoon.
Queensland Police revealed on Saturday some items believed to be linked to the investigation were located during their search and have been seized for forensic processes.
Further, detectives also discovered some evidence at the Good Night Scrub may have been moved prior to police arrival, probing police to now expand their search
"Investigations are ongoing and police are continuing to run out several lines of enquiry," Queensland Police wrote in a statement on Wednesday morning.
"In addition to investigative work, physical searches will continue as needed and as information is provided.
"The greater Gin Gin area remains the focus of the investigation."
Police are continuing to appeal for information, vision, or sightings of the grey Hyundai ix35 in which Pheobe was last seen travelling between May 15 and 18.

Prisoner on the run after breaking out of Qld correctional facility in a tractor

A prisoner is on the run after a shock tractor escape from a correctional facility in Far North Queensland on Sunday morning. Michael Graeme Rennie, 43, is serving a six-year, three-month sentence for serious assault, motor vehicle offences, theft and burglary, and drugs and weapons offences, at Lotus Glen Correctional Centre in Atherton. He escaped while working on the prison farm. Rennie was last seen driving a red Massey tractor with an attached bucket. Queensland Police Detective Inspector Jason Chetham told a press conference that it was understood Rennie escaped the facility using the tractor. '(Rennie) was last seen at about 10.20am yesterday (Sunday) morning and discovered missing in a headcount just before midday yesterday afternoon,' Inspector Chetham said on Monday. 'We believe he was conducting duties at the correctional centre using a red Massey tractor and that tractor is also unaccounted for, so we believe he may well have left the facility with that tractor.' The headcount was conducted at 11.55am, about an hour and a half after Rennie was last seen on the facility. Inspector Chetham has asked the public to contact the police if they have any information on his whereabouts. 'We don't have any specific concerns on what he might do in the community, not targeting anyone, but we're certainly asked people not to approach him and call us immediately if they have any information,' he said. 'He's from Far North Queensland, so he doesn't have to get far to see the family. so that's an angle we're running here. 'The Tablelands is an agricultural centre, so tractors on the road are something, I don't think, will turn a lot of heads, but we're keen to find it anyway'. The Lotus Glen Correctional Centre offers programs in the fields of both farming and industry to equip inmates with skills in preparation for their release. Police have warned the public to not approach Rennie if seen and to immediately contact authorities. Rennie is described having fair hair and complexion with blue eyes, with a light build standing at 174cm and weighing 56kg. He also has several body markings, including a gun tattoo on his left shoulder, a dragon and skull on his right shoulder, a screamer on his top shoulder blade, a clown with a gun on his left ribs, the letters 'SMP', a gargoyle, a demon holding a skull with horn and three names on his left arm, multiple dog bites and scars on his left arm, and on his right arm, a Celtic design, skull clown, full sleeve on his forearm and knuckle dusters. The lower half of his body includes a knee to ankle brick wall, panther, anarchy sign, skull, four headstones, clown face and eight ball on his left leg, a Celtic sleeve on his outside right calf, a star on his right foot, and a joker with crown on the side of his right knee. E-scooter rider faces Perth court after alleged drunken crash leaves man in hospital

A 24-year-old woman visiting Western Australia has been remanded in custody after allegedly critically injuring a man in an e-scooter crash over the weekend. Police say Alicia Kemp was under the influence of alcohol while riding the e-scooter with a passenger when she crashed into the 51-year-old man on Murray Street in Perth's CBD about 8.40pm Saturday. Emergency services attended and took the man to Royal Perth Hospital, where he remains in a critical condition. The passenger on the scooter, a 26-year-old woman, was also taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The 24-year-old rider was treated by paramedics for minor injuries. She has been charged with dangerous driving occasioning grievous bodily harm, and bodily harm, while under the influence of alcohol. Ms Kemp, who turns 25 on Wednesday, faced the Perth Magistrates Court on Monday morning and was denied bail. The court heard she was visiting WA and the prosecution argued there was a potential risk of her leaving the state. The magistrate noted Ms Kemp "looks younger than she is". "The surrender of a passport … doesn't stop someone jumping in a motor car on a huge continent and heading off into the ether," he said. Ms Kemp was remanded in custody and is next due to appear before the Perth Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
