Belal Muhammad wants more UFC weight classes for fighter longevity
Muhammad (24-4 MMA, 15-4 UFC), a former UFC welterweight champion, previously discussed the possibility of moving up to middleweight had he been able to defend his title a few times. In a recent Q&A on his YouTube channel, Muhammad was asked if the UFC should consider increasing weight classes.
"Do I think the UFC needs more weight classes? I do," Muhammad said. "I think that there's a lot of guys that are just stuck in that middle zone from 155 to 170, 170 to 185. There's a lot of in-betweeners. I think it'll give guys more opportunities to fight longer, to fight multiple times a year.
"The weight cut kills a lot of people. I know a lot of guys that kill themselves, but even if you add weight classes I think higher guys are going to try to go lower. It's still going to be a bunch of mess, but you're going to get a lot more title fights. So, why not add more weight classes?"
Muhammad just turned 37 and is on a quest to regain his title after losing to Jack Della Maddalena at UFC 315. He still has plenty of fight left in him.
"For me, it's about listening to the body," Muhammad said. "I still feel great. I still love the sport. I still love training. (I) just came from training right now. Until I fall out of love with it, until I hate it, until my body is telling me stop it, that's when I start thinking about it. But right now, I still think I'm the best in the world. I'm still working to get back on top, and we are going to get back on top. So for me, it's looking at the next fight, waiting for the next fight, focusing on the next fight, and going from there. One fight at a time."

Luke Rockhold: Darren Till doesn't belong in a ring or a cage with me
Luke Rockhold says boxing will also be his world against Darren Till. Former middleweight champion Rockhold boxes fellow ex-UFC fighter Darren Till in the Misfits Boxing 22: Ring of Thrones main event on Aug. 30 at AO Arena from Manchester, England. Rockhold has excelled in MMA with his grappling and kicks, but is confident that when he laces up the gloves, he'll find success there as well – even though it's Till who's the more proven boxer after amassing a 3-0 record in exhibition boxing. "I've got a million options if I fight Darren Till – mainly kick him," Rockhold told Submission Radio. "Kick through his head, kick through his body, and then beat him up on the ground. There's a million different options. This will be a little bit more of a level playing field, but I still don't think that Darren Till belongs in a ring or a cage with me. "Darren's tough. He's a tough guy, but he's got a breaking point. I think he's complacent at times, and I think there are going to be openings. I can pressure him. I can hit him. People haven't seen me in the boxing ring. I can move. I can move, and I can hit hard with both hands. I'm nothing like anybody he's faced in recent times." With a win over Till, Rockhold wants to take out the popular names in boxing whom he doesn't think belong. "There's one thing I don't like in this world is just fake, bullshit f*cking people," Rockhold said. "The world is full of pathetic, fake people these days. I'm here, and the only reason I still fight is to fight for the greater good of real man, real sh*t. "I'm going to go out there, and I'm going to put Darren Till down, and I'm going to clean up Jake Paul and all these little f*cking minions. That's where I'm at. I'd like to set the world straight. The world's going in the wrong direction, and what excites me to fight is just to correct the bullsh*t of this world."

UFC 318 winner Michael Johnson aims high with callout after tying knockdown record
NEW ORLEANS – Michael Johnson is aiming high after tying a UFC record. In the main card opener of UFC 318 at Smoothie King Center, Johnson (24-19 MMA, 16-15 UFC) picked up a unanimous decision victory over Daniel Zellhuber, extending his current winning streak to three. En route to the victory, Johnson scored a knockdown of Zellhuber (15-3 MMA, 3-3 UFC), which joined Melvin Guillard for the most knockdowns in UFC lightweight history with 13. "It feels good, it makes me feel like I'm doing something right," Johnson told MMA Junkie and other reporters at a post-fight news conference. "It definitely makes me be like, 'Maybe I do hit a little harder than I thought I did.' Or maybe it's the speed, but it's incredible. Me and my team have done such a great job. They haven't given up on me, even at sometimes where I might have almost given up on myself. ... It's great to be at the top of the record books. I'm going to keep climbing and keep getting more records." Although he's had his ups and downs throughout his career, Johnson has recorded some big knockout moments, including a first-round finish of the now-retired Dustin Poirier in 2016. With momentum on his side, Johnson has designs on shooting for the top of the lightweight division, as he wants the BMF champion Max Holloway next. "I want to get in by the end of the year, hopefully soon," Johnson said. "I've been throwing the idea around of me and Max Holloway. He's one of the best fighters that's ever come across the division. I've told everybody from day one in this organization, I want to fight the best of the best. Max Holloway's one of the best. ... That'll be a fun five-round five for me and him to do." This article originally appeared on MMA Junkie: UFC 318: Michael Johnson wants BMF shot after tying knockdown record
