International K-pop fans thrill to prospect of BTS reunion

SEOUL - Thousands of international fans of K-pop megastars BTS gathered on Friday in the suburbs of Seoul amid mounting excitement over an expected reunion of the group after its members complete mandatory service in the South Korean military.
This year's BTS Festa marks the 12th anniversary of the group, which last performed together in 2022 and has not toured since 2019 because of the global pandemic and subsequent military service obligations of its members.
It was unclear if any of the recently discharged performers would appear at the festival organised by the group's management agency, HYBE.
But that did not dampen the enthusiasm of fans, some of whom flew in from around the world hoping to spot some of the superstars at the gathering or at a pair of solo concerts by BTS rapper J-Hope as he wraps up his "Hope on the Stage" world tour.
"I want to enjoy everything because there are many things to do here and ... I hope to see the guys maybe," said Karla Linan Saucede, 33, who travelled from Mexico with her sister and friends.
"It's gone past excitement and into almost being numb," said Ayla O'Ryan, 45, from Scotland, adding that she planned a visit this month to practice Korean in the capital so that she could attend.
BTS' members Jimin and Jungkook discharged from the South Korean military on Wednesday, become the fifth and sixth to complete their service. Members RM and V were discharged on Tuesday and the last to finish will be Suga on June 21.
While details of a reunion have not been released, the group is expected to hold its largest ever world tour in 2026, says NH Securities, one of South Korea's largest investment firms.
Shares in HYBE jumped 11.3% in June as brokerages raised their sales estimates and target price for the agency ahead of the group's comeback. REUTERS

In a YouTube video uploaded by Vanity Fair on Wednesday (June 11), the 32-year-old answered questions about his life and career under the watchful gaze of a lie detector. With wires and straps attached to him, the nervous K-pop boy band member revealed: "It's my first time shooting in such a heavy and intense atmosphere." The first question: Is Jin a distrustful person? He appeared to tell the truth, admitting that he's not one to trust people easily and thus, it's not easy to fool him. However, the Super Mario-MapleStory fan shared that when it comes to video games, it's a different story. I paid for items and the seller would just take my money and run." However, he was soon caught by the machine for telling a lie. Many fans affectionately liken Jin's appearance to a hamster. When asked if he wished fans would stop, Jin replied: "I don't wish that. I'm happy with however the fans see me" — which the lie detector called out as untruthful. As he smiled sheepishly, he added: "No, I don't think they have to stop." In his own eyes however, he resembles a rodent, puppy or wolf. Blessed not only with musical talent, Jin was also asked about his gift for using his feet in various situations. "Ever since I was a kid, I've been able to pick things up with my toes. I just had a feeling that I could open a bag of chips too." Jin added: "I could pick up clothes. I could grab and move blankets. Anything I could grab, I did." Spilling the career tea In December 2021, Jin released his single Super Tuna via SoundCloud as a gift to his fans in celebration of his 29th birthday. Out of embarrassment, Jin had initially asked fans not to pursue the dance challenge, and it was revealed he really meant it. "As someone who makes good music, I just didn't want people finding out about a silly song I made," he explained. He also confessed that he felt Super Tuna was "cheesy". BTS has been on hiatus since 2022 to allow the septet time to complete their military service. Jin and J-Hope were discharged last year, while RM, V, Jimin and Jungkook earlier this week, and only Suga is left to return from his duties on June 21. When asked who he misses the most, Jin hesitated for a while before admitting — truthfully — it was their youngest member Jungkook. He also shared that in the band's group chat, V texts the most while RM is the worst at replying, and Jin himself gets off topic sometimes in his messages. He also pleaded guilty to having text messages from his hometown friends left unread, saying: "It's just useless to talk about games." When questioned if he thought his friends' opinions were useless, he corrected: "It's currently useless to me since it's about a game I'm not playing right now." Lastly, Jin — who graduated with a degree in film studies — was repeatedly called out by the lie detector when he denied any plans to act. The Apple Original film "F1", with action scenes filmed at race weekends with the Liberty Media-owned sport's cooperation, is due in cinemas and IMAX internationally on June 25 and in North America on June 27. Kosinski told reporters after an advance showing at the Canadian Grand Prix that the involvement of Hamilton, who joined Ferrari this season after winning six of his seven titles at Mercedes, had been key. The 40-year-old Briton is credited as a co-producer while his Dawn Apollo production company was also involved. Kosinski, who directed the Hit 'Top Gun: Maverick', explained how Hamilton was the first person he reached out to with the idea of a movie. "I sent him an email and just said 'I want to tell the story in your world. I want to make it as authentic as possible. Will you help me?'," he said. "And luckily Lewis said yes... He had actually talked to me earlier about playing a role in 'Top Gun Maverick'. So that's how I knew Lewis." Hamilton, who had to turn down a part in that Tom Cruise film because of his racing commitments, acted as go-between with Formula One and as a consultant advising on technical accuracy and authenticity. He was also a driver advisor to Pitt and co-star Damson Idris. Combs, 55, has pleaded not guilty to sex trafficking and racketeering conspiracy charges, and if convicted could face life in prison. He has been held in a Brooklyn jail since his September arrest. Ye has also faced controversy for antisemitic and pro-Nazi remarks, prompting businesses such as Adidas to sever ties. He appeared shortly after a Homeland Security special agent completed testimony about firearms and other items that law enforcement found in a March 2024 raid of Combs' Los Angeles home. Jonathan Perez, a former personal assistant to Combs, testified after the agent. During a trial break, outside the jury's presence, prosecutor Maurene Comey renewed her complaint about Combs' 'nodding emphatically' at times about testimony he agreed with, on concern his gestures might influence jurors. Combs allegedly made similar gestures during testimony last week. Brian Steel, one of Combs' lawyers, denied that his client's in-court conduct was improper. US District Judge Arun Subramanian, who oversees the trial, said he would try to watch for inappropriate gestures, but that it was normal to react to testimony and 'impossible to police' everyone.
