Serie A Designator Hails Inter Milan Vs Lazio Referee Despite Several Controversial Decisions: 'Positive Performance In A Difficult Contest'
Gianluca Rocchi praised under-fire referee Daniele Chiffi despite all the controversy surrounding Sunday's draw between Inter Milan and Lazio.
Speaking to DAZN via FCInterNews, the Serie A designator hailed the 40-year-old for a 'positive performance' at San Siro.

Daniele Chiffi made a mess in arguably the most significant game of the season.
Indeed, his decisions could directly cost Inter the Scudetto.
Lazio held the Nerazzurri to a 2-2 draw last weekend but had a substantial helping hand from Chiffi.
For context, Pedri's equalizer came as a result of a dubious VAR call.
Despite being flagged offside by the linesman, VAR deemed Boulaye Dia's position inconsequential and awarded Lazio the goal.
Though Denzel Dumfries restored Inter's lead, his heroics were in vain as Chiffi landed a knockout punch toward stoppage time.
He penalized Yann Bisseck for a questionable handball inside the box, sending Pedro to the spot.

And the veteran forward had no mercy, drawing Lazio level again, though this time, there was no way back for Inter.

'Bisseck starts off in a position that conceptually wouldn't be punishable,' Rocchi claimed. 'But then he extends his elbow and instinctively brings his arm to the ball.
'Therefore, he had to give a penalty. I understand it's hard to accept in the final minutes, and Chiffi's positioning wasn't ideal.
'A handball in those moments has to be reviewed carefully.'
Meanwhile, Chiffi's decisions didn't sit well with Nicolo Barella, who fiercely protested over a dubious penalty decision.

'We're playing for our lives, you're not,' the diminutive midfielder told Chiffi, who replied: 'We are two.'
Taking stock of the incident, Rocchi stated: 'That was the right response.
'Even though Barella's protest was strong, it was still respectful. Chiffi had a good match in a difficult setting.
'It was a tough, finely balanced game, and he took the right and proper approach.

Up to 110,000 people were allowed along the iconic, tree-lined Champs-Elysees avenue for a parade. Later, the team will join fans in PSG's home stadium, the Parc des Princes, for a concert and light show and official presentation of the Champions League trophy. PSG arrived at Charles de Gaulle Airport airport at around 4:30 p.m. (1430 GMT). Club captain Marquinhos and president Nasser Al-Khelaïfi brandished the Champions League trophy aloft as they got off the plane. A wide swath of central Paris was closed to traffic for the exceptional day. The security measures are also impacting the French Open unfolding nearby. Thousands of police were deployed to keep order, and will employ similar tactics as they did Saturday night, Paris police chief Laurent Nunez told reporters. AP reporters saw tear gas used near the stadium and water cannons used near the Arc de Triomphe to disperse rowdy crowds Saturday. In addition to the injuries and arrests, Nunez said four stores were looted overnight. Firefighters were so busy extinguishing garbage can fires in the middle of celebrations and dealing with other emergencies that the fire hotline was overloaded. By 2 a.m. Sunday, a total of 294 arrests had been made, including 30 people who broke into a shoe shop on the Champs-Élysées. Two cars were set alight close to Parc des Princes, police added. At one point, motorbikes loudly revved their engines and the crowd cheered as they did laps around the column. There were no police nearby and, by 1 a.m., the atmosphere was upbeat with no tensions and plenty of singing. Nunez blamed the scattered troubles on 'thousands of people who came to commit acts of violence' instead of watching the match. He noted similar unrest on the sidelines of prior celebrations in the capital, such as after France's World Cup win in 2018. John Leicester contributed to this report.

Key defender Acerbi turns down Italy call-up ahead of World Cup qualifier vs. Haaland's Norway
FLORENCE, Italy (AP) — Key center back Francesco Acerbi turned down a call-up to Italy's national team, leaving the Azzurri without the defender who was expected to mark Erling Haaland during a key World Cup qualifier against Norway. Italy coach Luciano Spalletti revealed Sunday that Acerbi called him after playing for Inter Milan in the Champions League final, which was won 5-0 by Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday. 'He sent me a message saying he wasn't going to take part and I responded and then talked to him by phone,' Spalletti said. 'There are players who deserve to be here just as much as he does.' Italy visits Norway on Friday and then hosts Moldova three days later. 'Whether we go to the World Cup or not depends a lot on how we play in Norway,' Spalletti said. 'We all know it.' Italy has failed to qualify for the last two World Cups. Alessandro Buongiorno, another defender, was sent home injured Sunday and replaced by Luca Ranieri of Fiorentina. ___
