With KalPa Kuopio winning the championship of Finland's Liiga this past weekend, the field of 24 teams that will compete in the 2025-26 Champions Hockey League season is now complete.
Of the 24 spots, 19 go to members of the six founding leagues from Austria, Czechia, Finland, Germany, Sweden and Switzerland. The champions of these six leagues, plus the top two or three teams in their regular seasons qualify. The defending European champion – in this case, the ZSC Lions from Zurich – automatically qualify, giving a fourth qualification spot from that league.
The remaining five spots are given to the champions of designated 'challenger' leagues. Here are the 24 teams that have qualified:
Switzerland (National League): ZSC Lions Zurich (CHL champion & league champion), Lausanne HC (regular season 1st place), SC Bern (regular season 3rd place), EV Zug (regular season 4th place).
Austria (ICE Hockey League): Red Bull Salzburg (league champion), KAC Klagenfurt (regular season 1st place), Bolzano Foxes (Italy; regular season 3rd place).
Czechia (Extraliga): Kometa Brno (league champion), Sparta Prague (regular season 1st place), Mountfield Hradec Králové (regular season 2nd place).
Finland (Liiga): KalPa Kuopio (league champion), Lukko Rauma (regular season 1st place), Ilves Tampere (regular season 2nd place).
Germany (DEL): Eisbären Berlin (league champion), ERC Ingolstadt (regular season 1st place) Pinguins Bremerhaven (regular season 3rd place).
Sweden (SHL): Luleå Hockey (league champion), Brynäs Gävle (regular season 1st place), Frölunda Gothenburg (regular season 3rd place)
Challenger leagues: Odense Bulldogs (Denmark), Brûleurs de Loups de Grenoble (France), Storhamar Dragons (Norway), GKS Tychy (Poland), Belfast Giants (EIHL)
The 2025-26 CHL season begins on Aug. 28 and will conclude with the one-game final on March 3. The game dates for the season have already been released but the exact schedule will be announced after the draw, which will be held May 21 in Stockholm, on the off-day between the group stage and playoffs of the IIHF World Championship.

‘Medical Passed' – Sky Sports Confirm Crystal Palace's Next Signing

Crystal Palace Closing In on Experienced Stopper Walter Benítez Crystal Palace are on the verge of securing the free transfer of Argentine goalkeeper Walter Benítez, with the deal expected to be finalised within days. As reported by Sky Sports News' Michael Bridge, the 32-year-old has 'passed a medical over the weekend' and will join on a free from PSV Eindhoven when his contract expires at the end of June. Advertisement This move marks one of Oliver Glasner's first major signings of the summer, signalling a clear intention to reinforce depth and experience within the squad as preparations ramp up ahead of the 2025/26 season. Crucially, the decision to bring in Benítez has been made 'regardless of Europa League outcome', according to the report. Experience and Reliability Between the Posts Benítez is a seasoned professional with an impressive CV. Having previously excelled at OGC Nice in Ligue 1, and more recently at PSV, he brings with him a wealth of top-flight and European experience. His calm presence, commanding style and strong shot-stopping abilities will be valuable assets to a Palace side that looks to build on their strong finish to the 2024/25 campaign. Photo: IMAGO Advertisement While current No.1 Dean Henderson has been mostly impressive since arriving from Manchester United, Glasner is clearly planning ahead. Whether Benítez comes in as a backup or serious competition, his arrival promotes healthy depth and sends a message that standards must remain high. Glasner Planning Bigger Squad for European Demands One of the most significant takeaways from Sky Sports' report is Glasner's intention to bolster his squad size ahead of a potential European campaign. Palace fans are still basking in the glow of a brilliant end to last season that raised hopes of continental football. The addition of Benítez fits into this strategy neatly. The rigours of Europa League or Conference League football necessitate a squad with depth, rotation options and experience. Benítez, with nearly 400 career appearances, including European matches, checks those boxes emphatically. Free Transfer Business Shows Smart Strategy Bringing in a player of Benítez's calibre without a transfer fee represents smart business by sporting director Dougie Freedman. With the financial constraints that come with FFP and the need to maintain squad balance, free agents like Benítez offer great value if chosen carefully. Advertisement It also shows the kind of joined-up thinking that has been emerging at Selhurst Park since Glasner took over. Recruitment is being done with tactical flexibility and squad resilience in mind. There is no hint of panic, only precision and planning. Our View – EPL Index Analysis From the perspective of a Crystal Palace supporter, this feels like a major statement of intent. Walter Benítez is not just a backup signing. He is a proven top-level goalkeeper with the composure and nous to slot into a Premier League side without skipping a beat. Dean Henderson has been solid, but let's be honest, we've had our nervy moments. With Benítez coming in, the pressure is now on every keeper in that dressing room to stay sharp. This kind of internal competition can only lift standards across the board. Advertisement It also shows Glasner is not resting on the feel-good factor of last season's finish. He's building a squad that can thrive in Europe and not just scrape by. Benítez's experience at PSV and Nice means he knows what it's like to play midweek in Europe and then on a Sunday in the league. It's a smart, low-risk, high-reward move. And it tells us Palace are no longer here just to survive — we're building to compete.

Ticket prices skyrocket for Dodgers-Padres game ahead of Shohei Ohtani's 2025 pitching debut

Ticket prices are soaring as Shohei Ohtani is set to make his 2025 pitching debut for the Los Angeles Dodgers on Monday night against the San Diego Padres. "He's ready to pitch in a major league game," Dodgers manager Dave Roberts told reporters after their 5-4 win over the San Francisco Giants on Sunday. "He let us know that." Advertisement Hours later, the Dodgers announced on social media that Ohtani would pitch on Monday. This will be his first time pitching since August 23, 2023, when he left a game against Cincinnati. Ohtani had his right elbow surgically repaired the following month. Even with Ohtani expected to pitch only one or two innings, according to TickPick, ticket prices went up by 174% after the team announced Ohtani's season debut. The get-in price for Monday's game rose from $51 to $137. Back in March, a report from Vivid Seats noted that the average ticket cost for a Dodgers game increased after the team won the World Series against the New York Yankees in October. Advertisement The average price of Dodgers tickets, home or away, was around $181, according to the report. The average cost was $40 more than the next highest mean ticket price, held by the Boston Red Sox. The Dodgers managed to secure the World Series crown last year without using Ohtani on the mound. Now the defending champions get a boost, building up their two-way star with plenty of runway left in the season. Apart from the game tickets ballooning, a Bluesky user who identified themselves as a Dodger Stadium tour guide highlighted how tour tickets have skyrocketed to $202.25 for Monday. The tour usually costs $40 for adults and $30 for children. The user, Tavi, wrote that tour guides make minimum wage, and their wages do not increase with ticket rates. Advertisement Ohtani last pitched in 2023 for the Angels, throwing 132 innings with 167 strikeouts and a 3.14 ERA. At the plate this season for the Dodgers, Ohtani is hitting .297/.393/.642 with a National League-leading 1.035 OPS and 25 home runs. Ohtani is in the second season of his 10-year, $700 million contract as the Dodgers are 43-29 on top of the NL West.
