What's 'not hot' in tech jobs: Economist at America's largest jobs website tells tech roles to avoid
Once considered a booming sector, the technology industry is not facing a significant shift with increasing number of layoffs and hiring freezes. Now America's largest jobs website Indeed has issued a cautionary advice: not all tech roles are created equal in today's job market. Indeed has shared a dramatic downturn in tech job listings. In a recent study, the website highlight that while roles in artificial intelligence and machine learning remain in high demand, many traditional and entry-level positions are facing a cooling market. Brendon Bernard, a senior economist at Indeed suggests that multiple tech positions are losing steam and he asked the job seekers to reconsider their career strategies. The warning comes at a time when companies are prioritising efficiency, automation, and AI integration over traditional development-heavy roles. Job roles on the decline The job seeking website has flagged the position which are 'not hot' the positions include: Front-End Web Developers: With the rise of low-code platforms and design templates, demand for basic front-end skills is waning. QA Testers: Automated testing tools and AI-driven quality assurance are replacing manual testing roles. IT Support Specialists: Cloud-based systems and self-service troubleshooting have reduced the need for in-house support teams. Blockchain Developers: After the crypto crash and regulatory scrutiny, blockchain roles have seen a steep decline in demand. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Mystical Forest Vase: Hot Sale topgadgetlife Shop Now Undo Reason for the shift in the tech sector Bernard also pointed out the different factors responsible for driving this change. He feels that AI and automation are easily streaming the tasks which were earlier handled by a large team. On the other hand, remote work has also altered the infrastructure needs and has also reduced the demand for traditional IT roles. Moreover, economic pressures are also forcing the tech companies to move towards selective hiring and favour the roles that contribute more to the revenue or innovation. "While there isn't a smoking gun linking AI to the plunge, automation trends could be a reason the weakness persists," said Brendon Bernard. Job roles that are still hot While some of the tech job roles are cooling off, there are still some roles that are high in demand. The jobs roles for AI/ML Engineers, Cybersecurity Analysts, Cloud Architects and Data Scientists are very much in demand. These job roles completely alignwith the company's idea of intelligent systems, data-driven decision-making, and security-first architectures. ‘Finally woken up': Congress demands discussion paper on GST 2.0 announced by PM Modi; insists on simplification, protection for states
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh (File photo) NEW DELHI: A day after PM Modi announced plans to roll out reformed GST plan, Congress demanded an official discussion paper and debate, while claiming they have been demanding these changes for 1.5 years. In a statement shared on X, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh emphasized the party's stance, asserting that the GST should genuinely be a Good and Simple Tax, rather than a "Growth Suppressing Tax." "The Indian National Congress demands an official discussion paper on GST 2.0 very soon so that there can be an informed and wider debate on this vital and pressing national issue. GST 2.0 should be truly a Good and Simple Tax (GST) in letter, spirit, and compliance, not like the Growth Suppressing Tax (GST) it has become," he said. Referring to the PM's announcement on Independence Day, Jairam Ramesh remarked, "PM seem to have finally woken up" and acknowledged the need for transformation to drive economic growth. "Yesterday, the Prime Minister seems to have finally woken up to the fact that economic growth will simply not accelerate unless this transformation takes place and increases private consumption and private investment," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Mystical Forest Vase: Hot Sale topgadgetlife Shop Now Undo The Rajya Sabha MP suggested a significant reduction in rates and a simplification of the rate structure to reduce revenue uncertainty for states. "Over the last seven years, the spirit of GST has been vitiated by an increased number of rates and the granting of multiple exemptions. The structure also seems to have facilitated evasion. There must be a drastic reduction in the number of rates. Simplification of the rate structure is essential, but must be done in a manner that minimises revenue uncertainty to states and also eliminates the classification disputes that have become so common. The GST compensation cess expires on March 31, 2026. This must be extended to offset any revenue uncertainty from the rationalisation of the rate structure," Jairam Ramesh commented. He also asserted Congress' stance on demanding the changes saying, "For well over a year and a half at least, the Indian National Congress has been calling for a radically transformed GST 2.0. This was a key pledge in its manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections." The Congress leader also pointed to the concerns of MSMEs, which are key employment generators in the economy. He suggested that beyond procedural changes, there should be an increase in the thresholds for interstate supplies. Additionally, sector-specific issues in areas like textiles, tourism, exports, handicrafts, and agricultural inputs need to be addressed. Ramesh also proposed incentivizing states to implement state-level GST for sectors like electricity, alcohol, petroleum, and real estate. This comes after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced a significant reform in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) aimed at providing relief to consumers and small businesses. Speaking on Independence Day from the Red Fort, PM Modi revealed that these GST revisions would be introduced around Diwali, calling them a "double Diwali gift" for the nation. PM Modi said, "This Diwali, I am offering you a 'double Diwali' gift. A major announcement is on the way for the people of the country. Over the past eight years, we have implemented a significant GST reform that has reduced the tax burden nationwide. Now, after eight years, it's time for a review. We have established a high-powered committee to initiate this review process and have consulted with the states. We are now introducing next-generation GST reforms, which will serve as a Diwali gift for the nation. " He further explained that tax rates on essential goods and daily necessities would be reduced under a simplified framework, providing significant relief and convenience.

KMRL begins process to set up ballastless track
KOCHI: Speeding up the second phase of the 'Pink Line' project, Kochi Metro Rail Ltd (KMRL) has initiated the process to set up ballastless track of standard gauge in the elevated section from JLN Stadium station to Infopark Phase 2 station. It has invited open e-tenders online for Rs 127.91 crore for 'Design, Supply, Installation, Testing and Commissioning of Ballastless Track', a work that is aimed to be financed by availing a loan from the Beijing-headquartered Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB). The successful bidder should complete the work in 16 months from the date of the Letter of Award. The last date of tender submission is September 1, while the bids will be opened on September 9. The contract awardee can subcontract the work, limited to 50% of the contract price. The tender shall be valid for 180 days (both inclusive) from the last date of submission of tenders. Last week, KMRL floated open tenders for supply of a third rail traction system as well. The Phase 2 project involves the construction of an elevated, electrified metro rail system spanning 11.2km and comprising 11 stations along the JLN Stadium-Infopark section. While the original deadline was the end of 2025, it was revised to December 31, 2026, after the work suffered a delay due to a fund shortage and issues related to utility shifting. 'While the complete section is targeted to be completed by next year's end, we plan to open the first reach up to Padamughal by June 30, 2026. Hence, the successful bidder should complete the work in that session quickly by March 2026. It requires another three months for testing and other purposes,' a senior KMRL official said.
