Frank replaced Ange Postecoglou as Spurs manager this summer — just weeks after the Aussie delivered the club its first trophy since 2008 — and Tottenham Hotspur legend Heung-min Son decided it was time for him to move on as well, so say it's been a summer of change and transition would be a massive understatement. Cristian Romero has replaced Son as captain and everyone else is back from last season's Europa League-winning team, with the noted addition of Mohammed Kudus ($74 million, from West Ham) in Son's place. James Maddison (torn ACL) and Dejan Kulusevski (knee) are both missing in central midfield, where Frank's options are limited to ball-winners and all-action types. Spurs will be a dangerous counter-attacking and set-piece side this year, if their goals against PSG in the UEFA Super Cup are any indication, and that raises the floor for last season's 17th-place finishers but lowers their ceiling at the same time.
Burnley have been plenty busy themselves this summer, preparing for life in the top tier once again. A dozen players have already been signed with transfer fees attached,and it's a baker's dozen if you include Axel Tuanzebe, who signed as a free agent from recently relegated Ipswich Town. Scott Parker's Clarets were promoted back to the Premier League (again) after finishing 2nd last season, their first back in the Championship (again). It marked the 4th straight season that Burnley have either been promoted or relegated, as they yo-yo back and forth, clearly too good for the second tier but also miles off the pace the last time they were in the top flight (24 points from 38 games, relegated by 8 points).

Based on their Super Cup performance, Spurs are well equipped to knock off some of the 'bigger' sides from around Europe in the Champions League this season, but without Maddison or Kulusevski they're still probably going to struggle when they have lots of the ball and have to break down an organized defense. Spurs 1-0 Burnley.

Semenyo thanks soccer community for support after alleged racial abuse at Anfield
LIVERPOOL, England -- Bournemouth forward Antoine Semenyo thanked his teammates, Liverpool's players and the soccer community as a whole for the 'overwhelming messages of support' he received after reporting he was racially abused by a spectator at Anfield. Merseyside Police said on Saturday that a 47-year-old man from Liverpool was arrested on suspicion of a racially aggravated public order offense. He was taken into custody to be interviewed. Police launched a hate crime investigation after ejecting a 47-year-old spectator from Anfield for his alleged racial abuse of Semenyo, who is Black, on Friday during the Premier League opener. 'Last night at Anfield will stay with me forever — not because of one person's words, but because of how the entire football family stood together,' Semenyo posted on Saturday on his social media. 'The overwhelming messages of support from across the football world remind me why I love this sport. We keep moving forward, together.' The incident occurred when Semenyo reported abuse to referee Anthony Taylor in the first half with the score at 0-0. Play was briefly stopped while Taylor spoke to both coaches and captains. 'To my (Bournemouth) teammates who supported me in that moment, to the (Liverpool) players and fans who showed their true character, to the (Premier League) officials who handled it professionally — thank you,' Semenyo wrote. 'Football showed its best side when it mattered most.' The 25-year-old Ghana international scored both of Bournemouth's goals in the 4-2 loss. 'Scoring those two goals felt like speaking the only language that truly matters on the pitch,' he wrote. 'This is why I play — for moments like these, for my teammates, for everyone who believes in what this beautiful game can be.' The spectator's identity was confirmed and he was removed from the stadium, police said. 'Merseyside Police will not tolerate hate crime of any form," said Chief Inspector Kev Chatterton, the match commander. 'We take incidents like this very seriously, and in cases like this we will be proactively seeking football banning orders, with the club, against those responsible." Shortly after the game, Semenyo posted further racial abuse that he received online and added: 'When will it stop..." Bournemouth players consoled Semenyo and an anti-discrimination message was read out to the crowd after the halftime whistle. The Premier League also said it will investigate the incident and 'offer our full support to the player and both clubs.' In a statement late Friday, Liverpool said it condemned 'racism and discrimination in all forms. The club is unable to comment further as tonight's alleged incident is the subject of an ongoing police investigation, which we will support fully.'

New signings star in Man City opening win and Richarlison shines for Tottenham
Tijjani Reijnders and Erling Haaland starred as Manchester City opened its Premier League campaign by crushing Wolverhampton 4-0 on Saturday. On a great day for City's new signings, Reijnders played a part in the first three goals — scoring one himself — and Rayan Cherki came off the bench to grab a late fourth. Coach Pep Guardiola made Reijnders a priority signing from AC Milan to compensate for playmaker Kevin De Bruyne's departure. He also snapped up the technically gifted Cherki from Lyon, where he made his debut at the age of 16. Reijnders prised the Wolves defense open with a delightful flick over the defense to allow Rico Lewis the space to pick out Haaland to score his first from a low cross in the 34th minute. Three minutes later, Oscar Bobb played Reijnders in down the left and the Netherlands midfielder arrowed a superb first-time shot into the bottom right corner from just inside the penalty area. City's third in the 61st came when Reijnders expertly took down a high ball, swapped passes with Bobb down the right and pulled the ball back for Haaland to finish with a crisp drive. Just six minutes after going on, France international Cherki bamboozled the Wolves defense and picked his spot from 20 meters out. Elsewhere, Newcastle lacked a cutting edge without its star striker Alexander Isak and drew at Aston Villa 0-0. On Friday, Liverpool players and fans paid moving tributes to Jota and his brother, Andre Silva, at Anfield before and during the league-opener against Bournemouth. Archie Griffin first to be honored with new Ohio State football tradition
There was a plethora of news from the Ohio State football program on Saturday. Not only were four captains announced for the 2025 season, but the program's sixth "Block O" recipient was also unveiled. In addition to that, Ohio State announced that two-time Heisman Trophy-winning running back Archie Griffin will take part in a new tradition on the banks of the Olentangy. In an attempt to improve the environment at Ohio State football games, one of the new traditions will be an honor to ring the bell to start each game. In this case, Griffin will ring the bell for the first time ever prior to the season-opener against No. 1 Texas on Aug. 30. Griffin continues to be a great ambassador for Ohio State and is ever grateful for being recognized with this honor as well. 'I'm honored to be able to be the first bell ringer at Ohio State. It's something new that's going on at Ohio State, but I think it's going to work out extremely well because the Buckeyes are going to have a great season, and that bell is going to ring a lot,' Griffin said Saturday before an autograph session at Dick's Sporting Goods House of Sport. Ohio State honored Griffin by asking him to "Dot the I" in Script Ohio last season and also unveiled a statue of him prior to the first game of the season as well in 2024. Now, he'll literally ring in a new tradition as still the only two-time Heisman winner almost 50 years later.
