Sabah creatives left out of Borneo.TV planning: Safva
Published on: Wed, Jul 02, 2025 Text Size: KOTA KINABALU: The sudden launch of Sabah's new digital streaming platform Borneo.TV has drawn concern from local creatives who said they were not consulted ahead of the move. Sabah Film and Visual Association (Safva) President Chester Pang ( pic ) welcomed the initiative but said the lack of prior engagement with key industry stakeholders was disappointing. He said this absence of consultation risked sidelining experienced local content creators and undermining long-standing efforts toward a transparent and inclusive creative ecosystem in Sabah. In an open letter to Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor, Pang requested clarity on policies for local producers, content selection guidelines, and official channels for communication with the industry. Safva, which represents Sabah at the national level through the Malaysian Film Association Coalition (Gafema), has worked with agencies such as Finas and RTM to promote the State's creative sector. Pang said Safva remained committed to supporting Sabah's digital creative development and stood ready to collaborate on future content initiatives. His wife, Kelly, announced his death Friday in a statement to the website Deadline. Advertisement Born in Sydney in 1968, McMahon initially worked as a model before moving to acting in television, first in Australia and later in the United States. He made a name for himself playing Cole Turner, a demon in the fantasy television series "Charmed", which ran from 2000 to 2005. "I'm heartbroken," series co-star Alyssa Milano wrote on Instagram after he died in Florida. "Losing him feels unreal. Too soon. Too unfair. Rest, my friend. I'll carry your laugh with me," she added. McMahon was nominated for an Emmy in 2005 for "Nip/Tuck" (2003-2010), another hit US series, in which he played an unscrupulous plastic surgeon. Producers Warner Bros. Television released a brief statement on Facebook paying tribute to his work on the series. McMahon also appeared in a number of films, playing villain Doctor Doom in two films from the Fantastic Four superhero franchise. More recently, he appeared alongside Nicolas Cage in "The Surfer", presented at the 2024 Cannes Film Festival. Rock legend Ozzy Osbourne bids farewell with Black Sabbath reunion

Pic by Black Sabbath | Ross Halfin LONDON: Rock superstar Ozzy Osbourne bid farewell to fans with a Black Sabbath reunion in his final ever live performance, German Press Agency (dpa) reported. The legendary rocker told thousands of heavy metal enthusiasts at Villa Park, Birmingham – a stone's throw from where Black Sabbath was formed in 1968 – that it was "so good to be on this stage" as he performed his last set from a large black throne. Advertisement Osbourne and his fellow original Black Sabbath members – Tony Iommi, Terence "Geezer" Butler and Bill Ward – were the last to appear on stage as part of a star-studded line-up for the Back to the Beginning concert. Among the bands performing were Anthrax, Metallica and Guns N' Roses, and there were messages of thanks from other celebrities, including Jack Black, Ricky Gervais and Dolly Parton. Osbourne – who was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2019 – plans to continue to record music, but said that the concert marked the end for him performing live. The 76-year-old, nicknamed the Prince of Darkness, entered the stage for the final time by rising on his throne through a trap door. He started the performance by saying: "Let me hear you. Are you ready? Let the madness begin!" And later, in an emotional moment, Ozzy said: "I don't know what to say, man, I've been laid up for like six years. You have no idea how I feel - thank you from the bottom of my heart.' The rocker – who wore his signature black attire and thick eye makeup – sang five songs in his own set, with fans waving torches from their phones during "Mama, I'm Coming Home." He finished his performance with "Crazy Train," before confetti rained over a packed Villa Park. After a short break, he re-entered the stage to join the rest of Black Sabbath – for the first time in 20 years – in a special reunion. The band performed some of their greatest hits to the adoration of the crowd, ending with a rendition of "Paranoid" for the ultimate send-off.
