Goal drought: Tigers stumble, Swans finally fire at MCG

Sydney have strangled Richmond for a badly needed 44-point win, keeping the Tigers goal-less for more than a half at the MCG. The Swans' slogging 11.14 (80) to 4.12 (36) win in cold conditions on Saturday was only their third in 11 visits to the MCG, punctuated by two heavy grand final losses over the past three years. Sydney's record improves to 5-8, giving their season a glimmer of hope. After last weekend's last-quarter fadeout against GWS, Richmond started brightly and led by 12 points at quarter time. View this post on Instagram A post shared by Sydney Swans (@sydneyswans) But the rebuilding Tigers did not kick a goal from 19 minutes in the first quarter until 22 minutes into the last - unofficially a club record. All-Australian defender Nick Blakey, derided this week by some in the media as one of the season's biggest disappointments, was outstanding with 34 disposals and eight inside 50s. Isaac Heeney starred in the midfield and James Jordon played his role to perfection as a defensive forward on in-form Richmond defender Nick Vlastuin, kicking three goals. Tigers onballer Dion Prestia was on fire in the first quarter with 13 possessions, but James Rowbottom then paid him more attention and he only had 21 for the game. Sydney ruckman Brodie Grundy also had a day out, beating Richmond captain Toby Nankervis in another crucial match-up for the Swans. Brodie Grundy keeps it alive and kicks a ripper 🔥#AFLTigersSwans — AFL (@AFL) June 7, 2025 The longer the game went, the more apparent was Nankervis's frustration. Coming off big losses to Melbourne - at the MCG - and Adelaide at home, the Swans were in big trouble early. Richmond had 10 of the first 12 inside 50s and it was 10-4 at quarter time, with the tackle count also a lopsided 11-6 in the Tigers' favour. But Sydney made the game a scrap at the start of the second term and Heeney kicked a goal at 13 minutes to give them the lead. The Swans led by 14 points at the main break and they kicked 10 unanswered goals until Seth Campbell put through his second late in the final term.

‘All-time best runners': Castelli closes decorated career

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The O'Gorman Track and Field team has produced plenty of talent over the years and that includes senior standout, Libby Castelli. The distance runner closed her decorated career last weekend, as one of the top runners in state history. Libby Castelli had a busy few days at the State Track and Field Meet, running the 800, 1600, 3200 and 1600 Meter Sprint Medley for O'Gorman. 'I just take it one race at a time. I had four races this weekend and just taking it one race at a time, then focusing on recovering and getting to the next race,' Castelli said. Castelli not only won each event, but she set two state records and received the All-Class Gold Medal in four of the races. 'What a great weekend for her to cap her career,' coach Aaron Strand said. 'Winning four gold medals, running some state record times. She just puts in all that hard work and it's fun to see it pay off for her.' The victories mark back-to-back years of winning the three distance races. That success has helped her earn a spot with North Carolina Track and Field Team next year. 'So excited for her. So excited to watch her as she goes on into college and stuff,' Strand said. 'She's definitely one of the state's all-time best runners.' And as she takes her talents to next level, Castelli leaves behind a legacy that she hopes will inspire more girls to hit the track running. 'She's one of the best in the history of South Dakota, so it's great for our younger girls to see that,' Strand said. 'It gives them something to strive for. They got to see all of her hard work pay off.' 'South Dakota isn't a big state, we don't have as many people, but we have some of the best talent, like some really good young girls,' Castelli said. 'I think the future here is really bright, so I hope to just inspire the other girls. They can do great things too.' Castelli set two state records at the state meet, including the 800 meter and the 1600 meter sprint medley. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Blockbuster NBA Trade Idea Has Hawks Swap Trae Young for Three Former Lottery Picks

Blockbuster NBA Trade Idea Has Hawks Swap Trae Young for Three Former Lottery Picks originally appeared on Athlon Sports. There could be a change for the Atlanta Hawks this offseason after missing the NBA playoffs for the second straight year. The Hawks haven't been competitive, despite having Trae Young, the league's leader in assists per game. With the lack of a competent roster, it could be time for Atlanta to trade Young. Advertisement Last season, the Hawks had a 40-42 record and lost in the Play-In Tournament. The organization hasn't been in the conversation of being a playoff team for a while. Bleacher Report's Andy Bailey suggested that it's time for the Hawks to consider trading the All-Star guard. Given that the front office hasn't been able to give Young enough help to contend, Bailey suggested that a fresh start with a different franchise could be the next step. Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young is guarded by Orlando Magic center Wendell Carter Ray Seebeck-Imagn Images According to Bailey, the team that would benefit from Young would be the Orlando Magic. In the postseason, it became clear that the Magic need a point guard who's capable of being an elite floor general. Advertisement The blockbuster trade idea would send Young to the Magic in exchange for Jalen Suggs, Anthony Black, Jett Howard and a top-10-protected 2027 first-round pick. Acquiring the three former lottery picks could be the perfect fit for what Atlanta is trying to do. "The Hawks have never been able to figure out how to surround him with a workable defense that can cover for his shortcomings on that end," Bailey argued. "And they're brewing their own little positionless philosophy that could benefit from Jalen Suggs' defense and a few more on-ball opportunities for the likes of Jalen Johnson, Dyson Daniels and Zaccharie Risacher." The Hawks have a promising young core in Zaccharie Risacher and Dyson Daniels. Young is the only player who doesn't fit the Hawks' timetable. With the Hawks, Young has developed into a four-time All-Star and one of the best facilitators in the NBA. He has averaged 25.3 points, 3.5 rebounds and 9.8 assists in seven seasons.
