South Africa announce squad for T20I Tri-Series against New Zealand & Zimbabwe
Cape Town, June 26 (UNI) South Africa have announced a 14-player squad for the upcoming T20I
tri-series against Zimbabwe and New Zealand, scheduled to be played in Harare from July 14 to 26.
Rassie van der Dussen, who has 50 T20I caps, will take charge of the South Africa squad that features four uncapped players for the upcoming shortest-format outings.
Corbin Bosch, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Rubin Hermann and Senuran Muthusamy have all received maiden call-ups after strong domestic performances.
Pretorius was the standout performer in the 2025 edition of the SA20, finishing as the leading run-scorer with 397 runs at a strike rate of 166.
Wicket-keeper-batter Rubin Hermann was also impressive, scoring 333 runs at an average of 41.43.
Bosch, who has already featured for the Proteas in ODIs and Tests, played a key role in MI Cape Town's title win in the SA20 earlier this year, while Muthusamy adds to South Africa's depth as a
spin-bowling all-rounder.
The squad also features the return of Dewald Brevis, fast bowlers Nandre Burger and Gerald Coetzee following their respective injury layoffs. The trio bolsters a strong bowling unit that also includes Lungi Ngidi, who was part of the ICC World Test Championship Final 2025 triumph and emerging pacer Kwena Maphaka, according to an ICC news.
Head coach Shukri Conrad, who takes charge of his first T20I assignment since being appointed to the all-format role, said the series marks the beginning of South Africa's preparations for the 2026 ICC Men's T20 World Cup.
'With several senior players rested as part of their workload management, it creates opportunities for others to step in and show what they can offer,' said Conrad.
'This is a chance for us to build depth and see how these players cope with international demands,'
he said.
The squad will assemble in Pretoria on 9 July for a two-day preparatory camp before departing for Harare on 11 July. The tri-series begins with South Africa facing hosts Zimbabwe on 14 July.
Tri-series fixtures:
July 14 - Zimbabwe v South Africa
July 16 - South Africa v New Zealand
July 18 - Zimbabwe v New Zealand

Suryakumar undergoes successful sports hernia surgery in Germany
India's T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has undergone a successful surgery for a sports hernia in his lower right abdomen in Munich, Germany. PTI had reported last week that Suryakumar was suffering from a sports hernia in his right lower abdomen and will go under the knife if required. 'Life Update: Underwent surgery for a sports hernia in the lower right abdomen. Grateful to share that after a smooth surgery, I'm already on the road to recovery. Can't wait to be back,' the 34-year-old batter wrote on his social media handle on Wednesday (June 25, 2025). A sports hernia is a soft tissue injury in the groin or lower abdomen, often involving muscles, tendons, or ligaments. Following the surgery in Germany, he is expected to begin rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru in about two weeks. India's next white-ball assignment is a tour of Bangladesh in August, which will have three ODIs and three T20Is. Suryakumar, who hasn't featured in the 50-over format since the 2023 World Cup final, is expected to return to lead the T20I side in Chattogram on August 26. This was Suryakumar's third surgery in as many years. He underwent ankle surgery in 2023 and previously had the same sports hernia procedure in 2024. Before the surgery, Suryakumar was in scintillating form for the Mumbai Indians in IPL 2025 and was named the Player of the Tournament. He had amassed 717 runs — second behind Orange Cap winner Sai Sudharsan (759 runs) — as the Mumbai Indians finished in the playoffs, where they lost to Punjab Kings in Qualifier 2. In the T20 Mumbai League that followed, he led Triumph Knights Mumbai North East, scoring 122 runs in five innings.

SA pacer Nortje out of action after latest injury
Johannesburg [South Africa], June 26 (ANI): South African pacer Anrich Nortje will be out of action indefinitely due to a 'stress reaction', with head coach Shukri Conrad expressing worry about Nortje's latest setback and assured that the 31-year-old will be given every chance to make a comeback. Nortje was not considered for the T20I squad featuring in the tri-nation series in Zimbabwe next month, featuring New Zealand. The pacer did not travel to the US for Major League Cricket (MLC) this year, as he was with the Los Angeles Knight Riders (LAKR) for his stint. Nortje's total of two games this year have come in the Indian Premier League (IPL) for Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), as per ESPNCricinfo. Conrad confirmed that the injury will be assessed, and Cricket South Africa (CSA) is unaware of how long he will be out of action. Nortje has endured plenty of setbacks as of late, such as not being contracted by CSA this year. He last played international cricket during the 2024 T20 World Cup. A toe injury kept him away from the ICC Champions Trophy, and he could not be a part of the ICC World Test Championship-winning Proteas squad as well. This is not the first time he has spent so much time away from the game, with no action from November 2013 to November 2015, November 2018 to February 2019, and November 2021 to April 2022 due to back and hip injuries. It is also unclear which formats he will feature in on his return. 'We will have to see the length of the time that he will be out and the extent of the injury. I really feel for him,' Conrad said as quoted by ESPNCricinfo. 'He is a superstar fast bowler and having to deal with setback after setback cannot be easy. We will wait to see how serious it is.' 'Naturally we are worried. In Anrich's case, this is the second or third stress reaction in his back. It is too early to make a diagnosis, and we are definitely not drawing a line through this name. He is 31 years old and we are going to give him every chance to come back. We will have to see what the medical team think is the best way forward,' he concluded. Rassie van der Dussen, a veteran of 50 T20 Internationals, has been named captain of South Africa's squad for their upcoming T20I series, which includes four uncapped players, according to the official website of the ICC. The squad will assemble in Pretoria on July 9 for a two-day preparatory camp before departing for Harare on 11 July. The tri-series begins with South Africa facing the hosts, Zimbabwe, on July 14. South Africa squad: Rassie van der Dussen (C), Corbin Bosch, Dewald Brevis, Nandre Burger, Gerald Coetzee, Reeza Hendricks, Rubin Hermann, George Linde, Kwena Maphaka, Senuran Muthusamy, Lungi Ngidi, Nqaba Peter, Lhuan-dre Pretorius, Andile Simelane.
