Rep Jim Jordan to be questioned under oath on Strauss sex abuse scandal

The Hill18-07-2025
COLUMBUS, Ohio (WCMH) – Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) will answer questions under oath in relation to the Richard Strauss sex abuse scandal at Ohio State University, sources have told Nexstar's WCMH.
After years of appeals, depositions are underway in the sexual abuse scandal involving Strauss, a former Ohio State University doctor. It has been seven years since the first lawsuits were filed against the university.
Jordan is set to be deposed on Friday in Washington. Former Ohio State Athletic Director Andy Geiger was deposed on Wednesday in Los Angeles.

Jordan and Geiger are being questioned as part of civil lawsuits against the university. Neither have been charged with any crimes, but many have questioned what they knew about Strauss' behavior.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Jordan repeated earlier denials.
'As everyone knows, Chairman Jordan never saw or heard of any abuse, and if he had, he would have dealt with it,' the spokesperson said.
Attorneys for Ohio State University have also questioned some of the survivors, whose Title IX claims accuse the university of knowing what Strauss was doing, facilitating it, and concealing it.
Survivors have shared their anguished stories as they described being sexually abused, even being drugged and raped by Strauss. But they also shared their anger as they learned the Strauss assaults lasted for nearly 20 years, and they said university leaders, even their own coaches, knew.
At least four former wrestlers and one referee are on record saying they complained about Strauss to Jordan, a then-assistant wrestling coach.
HBO recently released a documentary about the scandal. Marshall was interviewed for the documentary after reporting on the scandal for many years. Ohio State was not involved in making the documentary.
The survivors of Strauss kept quiet for decades, internalizing their trauma, but back in 2018, they started talking.
Hundreds of the survivors of the 20-year-long string of sexual assaults by the Ohio State team doctor still have cases against the university pending in federal court.
In a previous statement to WCMH, an Ohio State University spokesperson said:
Ohio State led the effort to investigate and expose Richard Strauss, and we express our deep regret and apologies to all who experienced Strauss' abuse. The university is forever grateful to the survivors who participated in the independent investigation, which could not have been completed without their strength and courage. Since 2018, we have reached settlement agreements with more than half of the plaintiffs, 296 survivors, for more than $60 million. All male students who filed lawsuits have been offered the opportunity to settle. In addition, the university continues to cover the cost of professionally certified counseling services and other medical treatment, including reimbursement for counseling and treatment received in the past.

Lakers star Luka Doncic's EuroBasket plans receive update

The post Lakers star Luka Doncic's EuroBasket plans receive update appeared first on ClutchPoints. Although he will soon be eligible to sign a lucrative contract extension, Los Angeles Lakers superstar Luka Doncic is committed to representing his country at EuroBasket this summer. Doncic, whom the Lakers acquired in February from the Dallas Mavericks, may be in the United States over the next week or so, possibly even overlapping when he officially becomes eligible for his extension. But it won't be for long, according to longtime NBA insider Marc Stein. 'The Lakers' Luka Dončić, I'm told, is scheduled to return soon to the United States for a long-planned Jordan Brand promotional tour for his signature sneaker line,' Stein posted on X, formerly Twitter. 'He's expected to join Slovenia's national team in early August to begin EuroBasket preparations.' Doncic reportedly has not prioritized signing the extension, which he can do as soon as Aug. 2. ESPN reporter Tim McMahon said earlier this summer that he could see Doncic holding off on inking a new deal until after EuroBasket, which tracks with Doncic's past; he did not sign his extension with the Mavericks until Aug. 10, 2021, two days after the conclusion of basketball portion of the Summer Olympics, in which Doncic and Slovenia participated. If Doncic indeed does wait to sign his deal until after EuroBasket, that means mid-September would be the most realistic time for his signature to finally hit paper. The premier European national team event begins Aug. 27, with Slovenia starting the tournament the following day in Katowice, Poland. The group stage is split up between Katowice, Tampere, Finland, Riga, Latvia, and Limassol, Cyprus. The entirety of the subsequent 16-team elimination bracket will be hosted in Riga. The event is set to end on Sept. 14, a little over two weeks before the start of Lakers training camp. Although there has been some doubt that Doncic, who was blindsided by being traded earlier in the year, would re-sign with the Lakers, it does appear as if the Slovenian star will do so. If not, then LeBron James' reported anger over the Lakers' purported preferential treatment of Doncic would be all for nothing. It would also almost certainly prompt mass chaos in the L.A. front office, which traded Anthony Davis and Max Christie in the Doncic deal and has since added Deandre Ayton, Marcus Smart, and Jake LaRavia this offseason. ESPN names Ohio State as a college basketball team that could 'make a jump' this season

We are all getting ready for the start of the college football season now just a little over a month away, but the college basketball season won't be too far behind. In fact, we're now within 100 days of the Ohio State basketball season, and ESPN took a big look at previewing hoops for 2025-2026 by looking at many different angles and storylines. One of the things Myron Metcalf and Jeff Borzello touched on was ten teams that "could make a jump" this coming season. And, if you are an Ohio State fan, then you have to like what the ESPN duo things of the Buckeyes this season because they were named as one of those ten teams. OSU was able to retain some key pieces of its core group, but outside of that, there's been a major overhaul of the guys suiting up in the scarlet and gray this season. The mix of old and new will have to come together for the Buckeyes to get back to the NCAA Tournament, but there's good reason to believe that it could happen. Here's what Borzello says about Ohio State this winter: "The Buckeyes showed flashes of their potential last season but couldn't quite string together a consistent run of form. With a terrific trio back in Bruce Thornton, Devin Royal and John Mobley Jr. -- plus the additions of Christoph Tilly and Brandon Noel up front -- Jake Diebler's team should find itself in the NCAA tournament." It sure seems like Ohio State hasn't had a shortage of talent over the last few years, but getting the team to come together and play as a team has been an issue that seems to be a problem in today's day and age of the transfer portal and name, image and likeness. Here's to hoping ESPN is right and that the Buckeyes make it back to meaningful games late and on into the postseason this basketball season.
