East Fife promoted to Scottish League One by seeing off Annan in play-off final

East Fife secured promotion to Scottish League One after a 1-1 draw at Annan clinched them a 4-3 aggregate win in their two-legged play-off final.
Dick Campbell's Fifers, who won the first leg 3-2 on Tuesday night at Bayview Stadium, fell behind on the night to an early opener from Tommy Goss, but Adam Laaref's first-half equaliser proved decisive.
Annan, without suspended pair Scott Hooper and Layton Bisland after they were both sent off in the first leg, made a flying start at Galabank as Goss headed home Ryan Muir's cross to put them 1-0 up in the sixth minute.
The Fifers restored their aggregate advantage in the 37th minute when Annan goalkeeper Jamie Smith failed to gather a free-kick into the box and Laaref fired the loose ball into the top corner.
Laaref struck a post with an angled shot three minutes later, while East Fife goalkeeper Liam McFarlane made several crucial second-half saves and Muir hooked a golden chance for Annan in stoppage time over the crossbar.

Edin Lynch has signed a new contract with Edinburgh City and the Glasgow-born defender has a new role. The 24-year-old player will take over captaincy of the club from 36-year-old, Edinburgh-born midfielder, Jon Robertson. Last season was Lynch's first with the Meadowbank-based outfit after being part of Stenhousemuir's title winning side in season 2023/24. City have also said that goalkeeper Mark Weir has signed a new contract with the club who finished third Scottish League Two last term, collecting 56 points from their 36 games, nine behind second-placed East Fife and ten adrift of champions, Peterhead. Season tickets are now available and the club have confirmed their Premier Sports Cup fixtures. They open on Saturday, July 12 (3pm) against Partick Thistle in Edinburgh, then they travel to Queen of the South on Tuesday, July 15 (7.45pm). Their next outing is at home to Stranraer on Saturday, July 19 (3pm) and they then play Ross County, recently relegated from the William Hill Premiership, in Dingwall on Tuesday, July 22 (7.45pm). Airdrie announce exit of 'consistently reliable' defender

Craig Watson has parted ways with the Diamonds after a four-year spell Airdrie have announced Craig Watson has left the club after four years with the Monklands men. The Diamonds defender helped the club to Championship survival this past season and was also part of the League One promotion-winning squad in 2023. ‌ A former Hamilton Accies and East Fife player, the 30-year-old is now on the lookout for a new club. ‌ A club statement read: "After four years and over 150 appearances for the Diamonds, Craig Watson is moving on with our thanks and best wishes. "Defender Craig joined from East Fife in May of 2021, having caught the eye of then boss Ian Murray with a number of solid displays against his side. "Featuring regularly over four seasons in central defence and the right full-back role, the athletic former Hamilton man impressed the Airdrie faithful with his no-nonsense defending and ability on the ball. "'Janny' also showed an eye for goal, finding the net 11 times over his 153 appearances – with a couple of Goal of the Season contenders in the shape of outstanding strikes against Montrose and Alloa Athletic. "As a model professional, a positive influence in the dressing room, and a consistently reliable squad member during a successful period for the club, we wish Craig the very best of luck with whatever comes next in his football career. He will always be welcomed with open arms at the club he served with such distinction. All the best, Janny!"

Excitement of Neil Lennon appointment has instant effect as fans 'rally behind' Dunfermline Athletic

Dunfermline have been 'blown away' by a surge in season-ticket sales on the back of the appointment of Neil Lennon as manager. Lennon has penned a two-year deal at East End Park following his short-term agreement for the final seven matches of 2024/25. The successful conclusion of negotiations brought to an end a month of uncertainty over the future of the former Celtic and Hibernian boss. It also allowed the Pars to push on with their season-ticket campaign, with sales beginning at 10 am on Friday morning. With a steady stream of supporters throughout the day, the Fifers had sold over 500 by the close of business. That is more than double the number from the first day of sales this time last year. Dunfermline had 3,375 season-ticket holders last term and are optimistic of bettering that as anticipation builds following Lennon's decision to commit to the Championship club until summer 2027. A club spokesman said: 'We have been absolutely blown away by the response from the supporters — day one season card sales have exceeded all expectations. 'The excitement around Neil's announcement has clearly ignited real optimism, and it's fantastic to see the fans rallying behind the club with such passion.' With the club shop open again at East End Park from 10 am until 2 pm on Saturday, club officials expect more fans to commit to the year ahead following Thursday's announcement that Lennon is staying. Prices for next season show a five per cent increase, ranging from £12 for U/12s to £379 for an adult. A statement read: 'With substantial investments, including our new manager, players, pitch improvements and other areas, we hope supporters understand their financial backing is crucial to the club.'
