City police commissioner J Loganathan inspected the various security arrangements on Sunday and assured the smooth conduct of the ceremony. Officials set up barricades around the venue where Lord Kallazhagar is set to enter the Vaigai and a fence of around 10ft high to prevent devotees from crowding too close to the procession on the Vaigai. Steps were erected at Alwarpuram and Nelpettai for devotees to enter the river. Areas where Goripalayam flyover work was ongoing were turned into protected zones and debris that may hinder devotees' movement were removed.Police urged the public to make use of the QR code of the 'Vaigai Veeran' mobile application pasted in and around the venue to seek assistance and report crimes via text message or voice message. Police had strictly banned the use of power pumps for spraying water during the procession.More than 1,000 CCTV cameras and drones will be used for surveillance in and around the venue. AI-enabled cameras are also set up to monitor and track anti-social elements.Later in the evening, collector M S Sangeetha, along with fire and rescue service personnel, inspected the venue as well. Arrangements were made to stop devotees from straying into the river where water flow is stronger to prevent drowning. Tasmac liquor shops will be open on Monday.Notably, both in 2023 and 2024, a murder was committed on the day of Kallazhagar's entry into the river not far from the venue.

Gangster Salman Tyagi found dead inside his cell in Delhi's Mandoli Jail
A gangster lodged in Delhi's Mandoli Jail was found dead inside his cell on Saturday, PTI reported, citing the police. Salman Tyagi was previously associated with the Neeraj Bawania gang but more recently aligned himself with the Naresh Sethi–Kala Jathedi–Lawrence Bishnoi syndicate, according to the report. The police said that even while in custody, Tyagi supposedly kept running his criminal network, extorting money from businessmen in Delhi using threats and violence. Last year, the Delhi Police had arrested Salman Tyagi's relative, Mustafa Tyagi, who was wanted in a case of Maharashtra Control of Organised Crime Act (MCOCA) for the last four years. A resident of Tihar village, Mustafa Tyagi was arrested from Rajdhani Park in Nangloi in west Delhi. A semi-automatic pistol of .32 bore with three live cartridges was recovered from his possession.

Court rejects bizman's bail plea in 4cr trust misappropriation case
Mumbai: Sessions court rejected the bail plea of Shamsher Talwar, a businessman accused of misappropriating approximately Rs 3.5 crore from two trusts citing forged documents and his lack of cooperation with the ongoing investigations. Talwar served as a trustee and secretary for both Sanatan Dharma Sabha Trust and Kolwada Sanatan Dharma Sabhas Education Society Trust. The trusts were granted a plot of land at Sion Koliwada, Antop Hill, by BMC for conducting school activities of Shri Sanatan Dharma Sabha. It is alleged that Talwar and his wife, also an accused, improperly developed a turf on the land without approval from the board of trustees and are accused of collecting Rs 3.5 crore from private users of the turf. Talwar was arrested on May 22 by EOW. The prosecution submitted that a meeting of trustees, held on March 15, 2020, never occurred. The minutes of this meeting, which Talwar's defence used to argue that the turf proposal was approved, were allegedly forged. SI found dead in Adityapur playground
Jamshedpur: A sub-inspector of Jharkhand Police was found dead at Jagriti Maidan under the RIT police station limits in Adityapur of Seraikela-Kharsawan on Saturday. The deceased, identified as Arun Kumar Singh (58), was posted at RIT police station before being transferred to Ranchi in 2022. He had come to Adityapur to hand over the keys of the RIT police station storehouse to police officials. Officer in-charge of the RIT police station Sanjiv Kumar said, "Prima facie investigation found that Singh was in an inebriated state. He fell on a 20-kg boulder and sustained injuries to his head. There was an injury mark and blood stains on his head. There were no other external injuries. Stains of blood were also found on the boulder." There were no streetlights in the area where the body was found. "The body has been sent for post-mortem examination," OC Kumar added.
