3,500 cops deployed for Kallazhagar event
Madurai: The final arrangements for the Lord Kallazhagar's entry into the Vaigai were completed on Sunday even as 3,500 police personnel were deployed in the city to prevent untoward incidents and regulate crowds. City police commissioner J Loganathan inspected the various security arrangements on Sunday and assured the smooth conduct of the ceremony. Officials set up barricades around the venue where Lord Kallazhagar is set to enter the Vaigai and a fence of around 10ft high to prevent devotees from crowding too close to the procession on the Vaigai. Steps were erected at Alwarpuram and Nelpettai for devotees to enter the river. Areas where Goripalayam flyover work was ongoing were turned into protected zones and debris that may hinder devotees' movement were urged the public to make use of the QR code of the 'Vaigai Veeran' mobile application pasted in and around the venue to seek assistance and report crimes via text message or voice message. Police had strictly banned the use of power pumps for spraying water during the than 1,000 CCTV cameras and drones will be used for surveillance in and around the venue. AI-enabled cameras are also set up to monitor and track anti-social in the evening, collector M S Sangeetha, along with fire and rescue service personnel, inspected the venue as well. Arrangements were made to stop devotees from straying into the river where water flow is stronger to prevent drowning. Tasmac liquor shops will be open on both in 2023 and 2024, a murder was committed on the day of Kallazhagar's entry into the river not far from the venue. ‘Vaigai Veeran' QR code redressal system for Chithirai festival
1 2 3 Madurai: Madurai city police will introduce ' Vaigai Veeran ', a QR code-based grievance redressal system along with AI-powered surveillance cameras during the Chithirai festival, in a step toward ensuring public to a release, these measures aim to provide real-time support and enhance security during key events such as Kallazhagar's Vaigai river entry and the temple car procession. The system will go live from May 8 at 8am and remain active until May 12. More than 200 QR posters will be installed across key locations in Madurai. Devotees can scan the code using their mobile phones to seek police assistance or register complaints. Users can communicate via voice message, text, or direct number input, and the data will be instantly relayed to the police control room, inspectors, and senior officers for immediate response.A high-tech surveillance network comprising 1,057 CCTV cameras has been installed. This includes 91 AI-enabled cameras between Tallakulam and the Vaigai riverbed, designed to identify suspicious persons and known offenders through facial recognition and movement tracking. Six drones will provide aerial surveillance in crowd-heavy areas to help monitor congestion and detect potential prevent crimes such as chain-snatching and child separation in crowded areas, police will also distribute 40,000 safety pins to women and issue 1,000 child ID wrist tags with the names of the child, their parents, and emergency contact monitoring will cover the four Masi streets, Chithirai streets, and congested areas like Tallakulam, Goripalayam, Alwarpuram, and urged the public to cooperate, use the QR system responsibly, and report suspicious activities. Strict legal action will be taken against any disruptive behaviour to ensure a smooth and safe festival experience for all.
