DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A West Liberty-Salem High School student is set to appear in an independent film shot in California and Florida.
Our partners at the Urbana Daily Citizen reported Collin Thompson, a senior at the school, has the lead role as Freddy in 'Hacked: A Double Entendre of Rage Fueled Karma.'
According to the Citizen, the film shows a family targeted by a cybercriminal that takes over their life savings and all digital aspects in their lives.
IMDb shows Thompson is starring alongside Chandler Riggs, who played Carl Grimes in AMC's 'The Walking Dead,' Richard Riehle, who played Tom Smykowski in 'Office Space' and Jaime Moyer, who played Jodie Goldfeder in 'K.C. Undercover.'
The film is reportedly in the film festival process to see if a streaming platform would choose to secure a deal. If that happens, the film could have a global audience.

Wright State alum takes home Tony Award for Best Actress-Musical

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — A Wright State alum claimed one of theater's biggest prizes Sunday night. Nicole Scherzinger, who studied at WSU from 1996-99, took home the Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical award at Sunday's ceremony for her starring role as Norma Desmond in Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber's 'Sunset Boulevard.' The Tony is the latest in a string of honors for Scherzinger. She won an Olivier Award last year for the London production of the musical before it relocated to New York City's Broadway. In April 2025, she was named as one of Time Magazine's most influential people. 'If there's anyone out there who feels like they don't belong, or your time hasn't come, don't give up,' she said in her acceptance speech Sunday. 'Just keep on giving and giving because the world needs your love and your light now more than ever.' Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved. Daytonians targeted by fake BMV text scam

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — Another text messaging scam is targeting the wallets of Ohioans. A text message received by staff shows a phone number apparently originating from the Philippines is contacting people by text, and claiming you have an unpaid traffic ticket. The scammer is impersonating the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles, and uses scare tactics in the message. The recipient of the message is threatened with items like driving and vehicle registration suspensions and prosecution. 'Please pay immediately before enforcement to avoid license suspension and further legal disputes,' the scammer said. A link to visit to pay the fraudulent fine is listed, but you are urged to not click the link. Although the fraudster also wants you to reply to the message, you should report it as spam and delete it. 'If you receive this text, do not fall for this scam,' said Charlie Norman, registrar of Ohio BMV. 'Do not click any links and delete the text. Ohio BMV will never send you a text demanding payment or requesting your personal information.' If you have mistakenly provided the scammer with payment, you should contact your local police department. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc. All rights reserved.
