Mahhi Vij was asked not to open up about IVF journey that cost Rs 8 lakh, decided to freeze eggs at 32: ‘I had twins, lost one of them'

Mahhi Vij and Jay Bhanushali have been married since 2011 and last year, their daughter, Tara, turned 5. In a new interview, Mahhi opened up about her IVF journey and shared that her body went through a lot while she was trying to get pregnant. She shared that the process of IVF cost almost Rs 8 lakh, and while she was in the process of all of this, she had to get multiple injections during the day and some of them were quite painful. She also shared that after getting pregnant, she was advised not to speak about IVF and pretend that she got pregnant naturally, but she chose not to do that. In a chat with Hauterrfly, Mahhi said that she 'always wanted to be a mother.' 'I have been very open about my IVF journey. When I was doing it, people would say, 'don't declare that you have gone through IVF, people might think that you can't have children, just say you had the baby naturally'. I said 'but why not?' If I am a celebrity who is very open about it, it's not about me or my partner or if we can't have children. It's somehow not working so we have taken this route and it's our child, it's my thing and his thing, we made an embryo and it's our baby,' she said. Mahhi said that she started visiting the doctor when she was 32 and realised that she was not getting pregnant naturally and did not want to 'waste my time.' It was then that she decided to freeze her eggs so they could proceed on the IVF route calmly. The first cycle was cancelled, and soon after Mahhi decided to take a break from this for 4 years. I had taken a break for 4 years. Then I conceived by IVF only,' she said. When asked about the expenses of the process, she said that the entire process cost around Rs 8 lakh. 'I used to get so many injections. I would inject one on my thigh myself, one on my tummy. The one on my bum would hurt so much that I couldn't sleep on that side. But I wouldn't cry. I used to think something good is happening. I was very positive and I said, I wanted a partner for myself,' she said. Mahhi also shared that when she conceived, she had twins but she lost one of the embryos during the pregnancy. 'I had twins and both of them were in separate sacs. In the other sac, the baby was not growing so then the doctor told me that you pray that it gets out on its own because sometimes, it is possible that it might drag the other one out as well,' she shared and added, 'I saw blood in the washroom and I panicked. The doctor said, 'don't panic, good this happened, the healthier one has survived now pray for that child'.'

Maa Week 1 Report Card: Kajol's Film Struggles At Box Office, Mints Rs 25 Crore

Last Updated: While Kajol's film isn't earning well at the box office, the horror and mythology mix has won the audience's hearts. The mythological horror film Maa, starring Kajol, was released in theatres with high expectations. The film had a slow start on its opening day on June 27, receiving a mixed response from both critics and audiences. The film did pick up a little pace over the weekend; however, it is struggling to climb uphill at the box office. On its seventh day, Maa has collected Rs 1.65 crore Nett in India, marking its lowest single-day collection so far. With this, the film's total 7-day collection comes to Rs 26.65 crore, according to early estimates by Sacnilk. The Kajol-starrer has seen a significant drop in the numbers. It opened on a modest note with Rs 4.65 crore on its first day. Following this, it added Rs 6 crore on Saturday and Rs 7 crore on Sunday. The next three days, Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday saw a decrease, with Rs 2.5 crore, Rs 3 crore and Rs 1.85 crore, respectively. Adding day 7's number, the total box office collection is now expected to inch closer to the Rs 30 crore mark. While the film isn't earning well at the box office, the horror and mythology mix has won the audience's hearts. The average Hindi occupancy rate was recorded as 9.33 per cent on Thursday, July 3. The morning shows occupancy stood at 5.45 per cent, the afternoon shows picked up to 10.16 per cent and the evening shows were at 9.98 per cent. The night shows performed the best, with 11.72 per cent. Directed by Vishal Furia, Maa is bankrolled by Ajay Devgn and Jyoti Deshpande under the banners of Devgn Films and Jio Studios. The mythological horror film boasts an ensemble cast of talented actors, including Kajol, Indraneil Sengupta, Ronit Roy and Kherin Sharma. Adding to the dramatic clash, the film also features Gopal Singh, Yaaneea Bharadwaj, Jitin Gulati, Surjyasikha Das and Roopkatha Chakraborty. In the film, Kajol steps into the fierce role of a fearless mother who battles supernatural troubles. The film blends myth and mystery, relying on the mother-daughter equation as Kajol tries to protect her daughter from an evil entity. Meanwhile, Maa has faced stiff competition at the box office from Aamir Khan and Genelia D'Souza's Sitaare Zameen Par and Vishnu Manchu's star-studded film Kannappa. While RS Prasanna's emotional drama Sitaare Zameen Par is unshakeable at the box office and continues its dream run at the box office, Kannappa has surpassed Kajol's movie and has crossed the Rs 30 crore mark. As of now, Kajol's film stands at Rs 26.65 crore, while Kannappa has pulled ahead with Rs 30.10 crore over the same week. Beating both the films behind, Aamir Khan's emotional drama has minted Rs 135.65 crore at the box office. First Published:
