Big names including Eurosport, kids channel Pop Max and Sky History+1 have all disappeared from screens as traditional broadcasters feel the effects of streaming.
Much of Eurosport's content has been merged with TNT Sports.
Meanwhile Pop Max 's shows continue online.
And Sky History+1's closure comes amid reduced demand for hour timeshift channels, with on-demand catch up filling its space.
To the relief of viewers, there aren't currently any new channel closures lined up.
Though experts have warned more are likely to follow.
This week's latest changes for Sky and Virgin customers will only affect those who subscribe to Sky Cinema.
The premium movie channels regularly have mini revamps to reflect special events or themes.
Monday will see the first big change take place, with Sky Cinema Star Trek disappearing.
It will switch over to being Sky Cinema Tom Cruise, showing many of the actor's greatest big screen hits.
Sky expert reveals seven hidden tricks to boost your TV instantly
Then, later in the week on Friday we say farewell to Sky Cinema Greats once again.
It'll become Sky Cinema Cult Classics temporarily.
Finally, on Saturday the Sky Cinema Tom Cruise channel will bow out.
But what replaces it won't be too dissimilar with Sky Cinema M:I showing all the Mission: Impossible movies.
Here's the full list of changes coming next week to be aware of:
May 12: Sky Cinema Star Trek becomes Sky Cinema Tom Cruise - Sky channel 302 / Virgin channel 402.
May 16: Sky Cinema Greats becomes Sky Cinema Cult Classics - Sky channel 304 / Virgin channel 404.
May 17: Sky Cinema Tom Cruise becomes Sky Cinema M:I - Sky channel 302 / Virgin channel 402.
This is just the start - more changes ahead
Analysis by Jamie Harris, Assistant Technology and Science Editor at The Sun
Broadcasting is going through an almighty shift at the moment with the push toward streaming at a key point.
Eurosport and TNT Sports owner Warner Bros Discovery is making some big changes next year.
And it's likely Discovery+ will disappear as a result.
The streaming service has closed in several countries already to make way for a replacement, Max, bringing HBO and Discovery content under one roof.
The UK is one of the few big markets where Max hasn't launched yet because of existing agreements with Sky, allowing Sky Atlantic to air big HBO-made hits like Game of Thrones and The White Lotus.
But the pair recently announced a new deal that will pave the way for Max's launch in the UK early 2026 as a standalone app, while Sky customers will get access at no extra cost.
So expect even bigger changes in the TV and streaming world next year.

Nintendo Switch 2 launch – live: I've just got my console, here's how to get yours
It's finally happening. The Nintendo Switch 2 launches at midnight tonight, and I've just received my console. After reports that Nintendo wouldn't send out consoles to journalists to preview, I've since got my hands on a brand new Nintendo Switch 2. I've been ripping open the box as I type out this update. If you want your own, it's a little late to preorder, but shops across the country are getting ready to fling open their doors. Every Smyths Toys will be open from 12am, with a small amount of extra stock for anyone who fancies queuing. Over on Oxford Street, Currys is running its own launch event, but it's strictly for customers who've already pre-ordered from the branch. A few retailers are holding back stock for Thursday morning. Argos says it'll have consoles ready to collect from 6am, with same-day click and collect available nationwide. EE will have Switch 2 bundles too, though you'll need to be an existing pay monthly customer to get in on the action. I've been chasing down Switch 2 stock for weeks, and it's safe to say availability is thinning out by the hour. If you've left it late, there's still a decent chance, but you'll need to move fast. I'll be updating this blog with every restock and bundle I can find, and the team and I are on the night shift tonight to catch anything that drops after dark. Nintendo Switch 2 stock at UK retailers A closer look at the unboxing I'm juggling unboxing this console and keeping an eye on stock, but if you want a closer look, here's the screen on the Nintendo Switch 2: The screen is larger than the original Switch, with nearly two extra inches on its predecessor. Alex Lee4 June 2025 17:14 My Nintendo Switch 2 console just arrived Many writers reported that they wouldn't receive a Nintendo Switch 2 console before the launch, so you can imagine how shocked I was when the doorbell went and, well: After months of covering the console, it feels surreal to have it in front of me. If you want to order a console, it won't arrive in time for launch day, but you can still get your hands on one: Pre-order now at ShopTo Pre-order now at Very Alex Lee4 June 2025 16:42 How to prepare for the Nintendo Switch 2 launch If you're hoping to buy a Nintendo Switch 2 tonight, now's a good time to get everything ready. Make sure you're logged in to your retailer accounts, your payment details are saved, and delivery info is filled in. There's nothing worse than having to make an account when all you want to do is buy a console. Some sites (like the My Nintendo Store) will only let you buy the console if you have an active Switch Online membership, while others (like EE) require you to be a pay monthly customer. Alex Lee4 June 2025 15:41 Who's probably not worth checking at midnight? Very and ShopTo are both still taking pre-orders right now, with delivery scheduled for next week – 9 June at ShopTo and 13 June at Very. Since they're already in stock, they'll probably still be available at midnight, but nothing's likely to change. If you're aiming for launch day delivery, these aren't the ones to watch. Game? Don't bother, I say. After cancelling some pre-orders last week, its FAQ now says: 'We cannot guarantee there will be stock available in stores'. Right now, you can weirdly get a Switch 2 into your basket for £9,999. It might indicate a launch day restock, but who knows at this point. Alex Lee4 June 2025 15:00 Who's more likely to restock in the morning? Argos has confirmed it will go live at 6am with launch day stock for same-day click and collect, so set your alarm if you're planning to try there. Amazon is another one to watch. It had pre-order stock live for most of last week but hasn't restocked since the weekend. Based on how it's handled other console launches, I'm expecting stock to appear between 8am and 9:30am. Midnight feels unlikely. John Lewis has confirmed the console will be available to buy on 5 June, but hasn't said when. It doesn't typically drop stock overnight, so a morning release is a safe bet. Alex Lee4 June 2025 14:20 New Zealand and Day One update has entered the chat It's officially launch day in New Zealand, and people are already starting to receive their Nintendo Switch 2 consoles (or they're collecting them in-person). New Year's Eve energy. It also looks like the day one update has rolled out globally, so anyone who's managed to get a console early should now be able to upgrade their machine to play Mario Kart World. Alex Lee4 June 2025 13:48 Who's most likely to go live at midnight? If you're staying up for launch, Smyths is the most reliable bet. Every store across the UK and Ireland is opening at 12am, and there's a good chance it'll have stock online around the same time. The My Nintendo Store is also one to watch. There's been no formal announcement, but it's the official storefront – it has to go live at some point on Thursday. I'll be checking it at midnight just in case. Currys is a bit of a toss-up. It's holding a midnight launch at its Oxford Street store, which makes it possible the site could update too, but given the old listings said "pick up within 1 hour", there's a chance it's planning to go live in the morning for same-day click and collect. Still, I'll be checking overnight. Alex Lee4 June 2025 13:42 US retailers are reportedly cancelling some Switch 2 pre-orders There are reports that Switch 2 pre-orders are being cancelled across several US retailers, including Walmart, Target and Best Buy. Some customers have taken to Reddit and social media to say their orders were dropped without warning, just days before launch. Some believe it might be due to retailers overselling their allocated stock, or last-minute stock issues related to tariffs and shipping delays. Walmart has reportedly offered a few affected customers a $15 gift card by way of apology, and while GameStop posted saying it isn't cancelling orders, a few people have replied with screenshots saying otherwise. Right now, this only seems to be affecting US orders. Besides Game, I haven't seen any other orders getting cancelled. If you're in the US, you'll be able to pre-order a console at most major retailers tomorrow. I've got all the details in the article below: How to get a Nintendo Switch 2 from Best Buy, GameStop, Target and more Walmart, Best Buy, Target and GameStop will have Nintendo Switch 2 stock on launch day Alex Lee4 June 2025 13:02 John Lewis listings confirm launch day restock John Lewis has confirmed that the Switch 2 will be available to buy on launch day. Its listings now read: 'Pre-orders are now sold out. Available to buy from 5 June 2025.' That suggests a restock is definitely coming, though there's no exact time listed yet. John Lewis doesn't usually do midnight drops, so I'm expecting stock to go live sometime in the morning. If you're planning to try your luck, it's worth checking at around 7am – that's when the PS5 used to go live. Alex Lee4 June 2025 12:51 Will Amazon go live at midnight tonight? Amazon had Switch 2 pre-order stock live for most of last week, but it's all sold out now. It's hard to know if Amazon will have launch day stock – all of its pre-orders were scheduled to be delivered on Friday 6 June and Saturday 7 June, so its next wave of consoles might not arrive until the week after. If it does restock, I'm not expecting it to go live at midnight. Amazon doesn't typically do 12:01am launches. When the PS5 and Xbox Series X were released, it was dropped mid-morning at 8am, rather than overnight. Alex Lee

Last gig at Sheffield's Leadmill music venue to feature indie favourite
Sheffield's famous Leadmill music venue has announced its final gig will be on June 27, featuring indie favourite Miles Kane. Last month, the club announced it would have to leave its premises in the city after losing a long-running eviction battle with its landlord, the Electric Group. On Wednesday, the venue announced the final gig, saying Kane's appearance will be 'a remarkable full stop to The Leadmill's concert history'. Live promoter Ben Hartley said: 'Miles has been a cherished friend of The Leadmill for well over a decade. 'After the support he has shown us throughout our eviction campaign and the countless memories of sold-out shows throughout the years, it feels entirely fitting that he joins us one last time to add a remarkable full stop to The Leadmill's concert history.' Well-known names such as Pulp's Jarvis Cocker pledged their backing to the club after it emerged in 2022 that the Electric Group had issued the eviction notice, triggering a lengthy legal battle. After it lost an appeal last month, The Leadmill said the judgment will mean the loss of more than 70 jobs. It described the decision as a 'heartbreaking moment not just for our team but for the entire Sheffield community' which 'feels like a betrayal of the cultural fabric of our city'. The appeal ruling came three months after a judge ruled in favour of the Electric Group, which owns the building and runs Electric Brixton in London plus venues in Bristol and Newcastle. The group has always stressed that it intends to keep it as a music venue, promising 'substantial investment' when it takes over the running of the club. After it won the court case in February, the Electric Group said: 'The successful legal outcome paves the way for a bright future for this venue, ensuring it will receive the substantial investment it needs to thrive. 'It will continue to be a cornerstone of the live music scene in Sheffield, supporting artists, fans and community projects for the next 100 years.' The Leadmill opened its doors 45 years ago and has played host to countless bands including Pulp, Coldplay, Arcade Fire, Muse, Oasis, Stone Roses, The White Stripes, Jorja Smith and Michael Kiwanuka. A plaque on the building marks Pulp's first gig, which was at the venue in August 1980. Kane first performed at The Leadmill in 2011 and has gone on to sell out the venue a further four times as a solo performer, most recently in December 2023. He also appeared in 2007 as part of The Little Flames, who were opening for Sheffield's Arctic Monkeys. Tickets go on sale on Friday at 10am from The Leadmill website.

Queen ‘warms up' six-year-old girl's ‘cold hands' during blustery outdoor event
The Queen went to 'warm up' a child's 'cold hands' as she attended an outdoor lunch on a blustery, grey day. Camilla attended a Big Lunch at Canary Wharf in London on Wednesday to celebrate community friendship and nature at Eden Dock. She wore a black and white spotted Fiona Clare dress with a cream trench coat draped over her shoulders to the event at the quayside, which saw cloudy weather and a chilly breeze. The Queen arrived to a medley from the musical West Side Story performed by the community choir, London Docklands Singers, before chatting to guests accompanied by Peter Stewart, chief purpose officer at the Eden Project, and Lindsey Brummitt, programme director for The Big Lunch. Camilla went on to meet a group of children, aged six, from the local Mulberry Wood Wharf primary school who helped decorate the bunting for the event and showed the Queen some of their drawings. As she greeted one six-year-old girl, Camilla said 'you've got cold hands', adding 'warm them back up again' as she rubbed the girl's hand in hers. The Queen then sat alongside some 40 guests who were enjoying lunch on wooden decking by the dock and chatted to attendees from local projects and charities about their work. Camilla wrapped her coat around her as the breeze picked up by the waterside and patted her hair down before posing for a group photograph. 'How very sensible, I'd like to borrow your jacket,' the Queen said as she sat down next to Andre Simon, founder of Radojunkie, an organisation that supports young people to boost their personal development through martial arts, who was wearing a beige sleeveless body-warmer style coat. The Queen welcomed a hot drink brought to her by a member of staff, saying 'oh, I'd love a cup of tea' as the milky drink was placed in front of her. Camilla has been a patron of The Big Lunch, a charity initiative formed by the Eden Project which brings communities and neighbours together, since 2013. Formed in 2009, The Big Lunch organises events including street parties, barbeques and picnics where people mix and share food, with 10 million people taking part in 2024. During the visit, Camilla admired two cakes, one made using produce including honey from the Eden Project in Cornwall and surplus food from the Felix Project, and another depicting the finalists' dishes from The Big Lunch Recipe Search competition. The Queen announced the winner of the contest – which sought to unearth shareable dishes to inspire people to cook and eat together – as special educational needs teacher Melanie Booth. Speaking at the event, Ms Booth, whose winning entry was empanadas she created during lockdown using homegrown butternut squash and chillies grown by her neighbour, said it had been an 'absolute honour' to meet Camilla. The former catering lecturer, who is from Wiltshire where the Queen owns a house, added that Camilla had previously sampled one of her mince pies at an event at Wiltshire College. Ms Brummitt said the Queen was an 'amazing supporter' of The Big Lunch. 'It's wonderful to have her support,' she added. 'She cares so much about community, for the communities we work with it's so special for them to get to meet somebody like her and have that sort of personal thank you.' Broadcaster Angela Rippon, who is an ambassador for The Big Lunch, and two people dressed as bushes were also among those greeted by the Queen. The Eden Dock is the result of a partnership between the Eden Project and Canary Wharf Group which aims to bring nature to the city centre. The Big Lunch, an annual event each June, will take place this year on June 7 and 8.
