Cloud cover, warm temperatures in London region

CTV News27-05-2025

A cloudy day in the London region, but temperatures are holding from 19 C to 23 C, according to CTV London Meteorologist Julie Atchison.
'We are still under the influence of high pressure, but we're seeing this cloud cover stream in advance of our next low, that's making its way towards the Ohio valley,' said Atchison.
'So, high pressure moving out, and you can see this high cloud that's moved in, resulting in that filtered sunshine.'
Atchison said as Wednesday rolls around, showers are expected.
'We will have this area of low pressure sliding by to the south, and then we have a closed low that will dive in from the upper plains,' she said.
'That combo will bring some showers heading throughout the day on Wednesday, likely not arriving until Wednesday afternoon.'
Here's the rest of your forecast:
Tuesday night: Partly cloudy. Wind east 20 km/h becoming light this evening. Low 12 C.
Wednesday: Cloudy. Showers beginning late in the morning. Wind becoming east 30 km/h in the morning. Temperature steady near 14 C.
Wednesday night: Cloudy with a 60 per cent chance of showers. Low 10 C.
Thursday: Cloudy with a 40 per cent chance of showers. High 17 C.

It's ale over for historic Kent Brewery after Council approves demolition without debate

On Tuesday, City Council granted permission to demolish the former Kent Brewery and Brewmaster's house on Ann Street—with conditions. The lengthy heritage fight ended with a whimper when Council members chose not to speak prior to the 11 to three vote. Before demolishing the buildings, York Developments will be required to carefully remove some historic architectural elements and prioritize their reuse in the redevelopment of the site. 060225 - Kent Brewery Artist's rendering of York Developments' proposal for the commemoration of Kent Brewery. (City of London) York Developments intends to construct a craft brewery within the 23-storey student-oriented residential building to commemorate the brewing history on the property. In 2022, City Council voted to grant heritage designations to the brewery building (1859) and adjacent house (1893). However, the designations had subsequently been under appeal to the Ontario Land Tribunal.

Four years since tragic death of London Muslim family

Muslim family is remembered four years after they were targeted by a hate attack. (Lauren Stallone/CTV News London) June 6 will mark four years since the tragic death of a Muslim family when they were deliberately struck and killed by a truck while out for a walk in London, Ont. In the wake of the attack, police said there was evidence this was a premeditated attack motivated by hate. The victims were Alman Afzaal, his wife Madiha, their 15-year-old daughter Yumna and 74-year-old grandmother Talat, along with a surviving nine-year-old boy. The city is coming together to commemorate the family and stand against Islamophobia. 'It was an incredible shock,' said Nawaz Tahir, a community advocate. 'To know we've had hate incidents before, but this just reached a new level.' 'It is a yearly reminder to ourselves to not forget what happened, to process and really feel what happened and not let it dull with age,' said Tristan Johson with London and Middlesex Local Immigration Partnership. 'We need to make London a safe place for Muslims to live.' Londonders can attend several events throughout the city this week, including a community memorial walk at Canterbury Park on Tuesday night, ribbon making and the Our London Family Prayer on Friday evening. 'I think it's important to recognize that hate grows on quiet dissent and when we don't show up and we don't speak up about what happened our inaction leads to complicity and Islamophobia grows,' said Tala Zyoud with the Youth Coalition Combating Islamophobia (YCCI). Advocates say there is still lots to be done to prevent similar attacks from happening in the future. 'The hate is worse by every conceivable metric, and anecdotally we know that the hate is getting worse, not just in quantity and numbers but in terms of scope and extent of it,' said Tahir. 'It's about education, we need to keep talking with our neighbours, our friends,' said Huda Hussein with London Immigration Partnership. 'When you talk to everyone, people will understand more about us.' As a member of the Muslim community, Huda Hussein says she too feels targeted at times. 'That didn't stop me, I continue to do what I feel like doing, what I'm passionate about,' said Hussein. 'I continue to work and raise my family.' Hussein said although it can be challenging at times, she will continue to honour the lives lost by standing up against hate everyday. 'We are one community, one big community with different kinds of fabrics,' said Hussein. 'I am this way, and you are that way, but we are all one community at the end of the day.'

Colleen Bready's Forecast: Smoke lingers in Manitoba

Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for June 3, 2025. Colleen Bready has your current conditions and updated weather forecast for June 3, 2025. As wildfires burn, smoke continues to spread and fluctuate in Manitoba and northwestern Ontario Tuesday. An air quality warning issued by Environment and Climate Change Canada remains in effect in parts of southeastern, central and northwestern Manitoba, and in Ontario. A special air quality statement also continues for areas along the periphery of the warned regions that are further from the wildfires. The weather agency said air quality and visibility from smoke can vary and fluctuate from hour to hour. Most of the south is expected to be hazy Tuesday, but not under either air quality alert. However, smoke could be detected in downtown Winnipeg. Firefighters will be contending with strong and gusting northwest winds across Manitoba Tuesday, including in wildfire areas in the southeast, northwest, and north-central regions. Daytime highs in much of the north Tuesday are expected to reach the mid to upper teens, while southern areas will climb into the low 20s. Rain and drizzle are falling Tuesday in regions furthest north, including Tadoule Lake and Churchill. There is a good chance much-needed showers will reach a wildfire burning around Lynn Lake Tuesday afternoon and night. The community is also only expected to reach a cool afternoon high of 9 C. The next meaningful chance of showers in southern Manitoba, including Winnipeg, is on Saturday.
