3 new PlayStation Plus games to play this weekend (May 30-June 1)
Under normal circumstances, we would have to wait until next week to get our drop of new PlayStation Plus games, but this is a special occasion. We're currently right at the start of the Days of Play event where Sony celebrates with tons of community events and huge discounts on PS5 games and accessories. The icing on the cake is that we're not only getting four new games for Essential members, but an additional four for Extra and two more for Premium, with several already available. That's a lot to keep up with if you weren't prepared for it, which is where I come in. We will have to wait for most of the games until Tuesday, but here are a few new games you can start playing over this weekend to start the celebrations early.
Destiny 2: The Final Shape
With all the talk surrounding Marathon, Bungie, and live service games as a whole, it might feel in bad form to recommend The Final Shape right now. However, for what it's worth, Bungie did manage to make what looks like its last major expansion to the Destiny universe its best yet. This feels like the true swansong of the 10+ year journey players have been on since launch in all the right ways. The story is as complex as ever overall, but the micro moments with characters and the buildup to missions and major battles are thrilling. Gunplay, as always, is a joy with even more ways to break open the game. If you're overly pessimistic about Bungie right now, this might help remind you that it can still deliver.

Another Crab's Treasure
Don't be fooled by the tone or presentation of this game. Another Crab's Treasure is a deep (pun intended) soulslike with a style all its own that is way more than just a fun parody. Sure, you will see deliberate jabs here and there, like how the game takes place in the Sands Between, but the gameplay is dead serious. Besides its underwater setting, what sets this game apart is its shell mechanic. Depending on what shell your crab is wearing, you have access to a different ability. If even the mention of the word soulslike turns you off, fear not. This game is meant to be beginner-friendly and has plenty of accessibility and assist options.
Another Crab's Treasure is available now on PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, Switch, and PC.
Alone in the Dark 2
I'm taking you way back with this pick, but stick with me because I have a reason. Sadly, I can't put the very first game on the list since it isn't on PS Plus, so Alone in the Dark 2 will have to do. This is the sequel to the game that essentially inspired all survival horror games after. It is a bit rough on the eyes now, and just as clunky as it was in the '90s, but just as creepy and astounding when you consider the era it came out in. But beyond being a classic I think anyone should try, next week we are getting the 2024 reboot that sadly went overlooked by most. There's no need to play this first to understand the modern entry, but it is always a fun exercise to see where a series started compared to where it is now.

Millions of honeybees abuzz after truck overturns in Washington state
There was a buzz in the air Friday in northwestern Washington state as about 250 million honeybees escaped a commercial truck that overturned. The truck hauling an estimated 70,000 pounds of honeybee hives rolled over around 4 a.m. close to the Canadian border near Lynden, the Whatcom County Sheriff's Office said in social media posts. It appears the driver did not navigate a tight turn well enough, causing the trailer to roll into a ditch, county emergency management spokesperson Amy Cloud said in an email. The driver was uninjured, Cloud said. Deputies, county public works employees and several bee experts responded to the scene. The box hives later came off the truck, and local beekeepers swarmed to help recover, restore and reset the hives, according to the sheriff's office. The plan is to allow the bees to return to their hives and find their queen bee in the next day or two, according to the sheriff's office. The goal is to save as many of the bees as possible. 'Thank you to the wonderful community of beekeepers: over two dozen showed up to help ensure the rescue of millions of pollinating honey bees would be as successful as possible,' the sheriff's office post said. The public was advised to avoid the area on Friday, and sheriff's deputies dove into in their squad cars at times to avoid being stung. Honeybees are crucial to the food supply, pollinating over 100 crops including nuts, vegetables, berries, citrus and melons. Bees and other pollinators have been declining for years, and experts blame insecticides, parasites, disease, climate change and lack of a diverse food supply. In 2018, the UN General Assembly sponsored the first 'World Bee Day' on May 20 to bring attention to the bees' plight. Beekeepers often transport millions of bees from one location to another because leaving them in one location for too long can deplete resources for other pollinators, The Seattle Times reported. Alan Woods, president of the Washington State Beekeepers Association, told the newspaper the state should have a standardized 'emergency bee response' for bee vehicle crashes. In 2015, 14 million bees escaped a truck north of Seattle on Interstate 5 and started stinging people, the newspaper reported at the time.

SEATTLE — Carlos Correa hit a two-run home run in the 10th inning and the Minnesota Twins overcame a three-run deficit to beat the Mariners 12-6 on Friday night. Correa pounced on a first-pitch sinker from reliever Casey Legumina (4-3), sending it into the seats in left field. The Twins scored four more runs to cap off the victory.

Narrow Openings Constructor: Marshal Herrmann Editor: Anna Gundlach Marshal: I'm happy to have another puzzle published at USA Today! It's a pleasure to construct themed puzzles for the USA Today because they allow a lot of freedom in the grid pattern, so I have more flexibility to create what I think is the most fun puzzle. I hope you enjoyed it! Crosswords are subjective, so what constructors find "fun" will vary based on their personal experiences and taste. Here are some entries that I particularly enjoyed because they had some personal connection: SEQUOIAS (I recently road-tripped from Chicago to Yosemite with my girlfriend, and we were in awe of those giants), LATTE ART (one of my best friends recently purchased an espresso machine, and I've been the happy beneficiary of many increasingly-artsy lattes), TRICK DECK (I took magic lessons as an adult and still own a trick deck, although I've since switched hobbies), BOSTON (I lived there for four years), and KENJI (my favorite food writer; his recipes and content are top-notch). But I can understand why THIN MINTS are the top-seller; they are delicious. (The second-best selling Girl Scout cookie variety is Samoas.) MARTY (62A: "Back to the Future" hero McFly) Back to the Future is, of course, the classic 1985 movie that starred Christopher Lloyd as eccentric scientist Doc Brown, who sends his friend MARTY McFly (played by Michael J. Fox) on a time travel journey. EDNA (67A: "Country Girl" author O'Brien) Country Girl is the 2012 memoir of Irish writer EDNA O'Brien (1930-2024). Instead, every other card in the DECK was identical. HIJINKS (12D: Rambunctious antics) HIJINKS is a fun word. It's also spelled "high jinks." DES (22D: Marathon runner Linden) I just learned about DES Linden – who won the Boston marathon in 2018 – when she appeared in the puzzle a week ago. MARGOT (28D: "Barbie" star Robbie) MARGOT Robbie portrays the title character in the 2023 movie Barbie. Although to be fair, there are quite a few characters in the movie named Barbie. One of my favorite scenes from the movie is when all the Barbies are greeting each other. "Hi, Barbie!" "Hi, Barbie!" "Hi Barbie!"... IBISES (30D: Sacred birds to ancient Egyptians) One species of IBISES, the African sacred IBISES, are known for their role in Ancient Egyptian religion. The Egyptian god, Thoth, was depicted as having the head of an IBIS. SEQUOIAS (37D: Giant trees in Yosemite's Mariposa Grove) Giant SEQUOIAS are the largest known living tree on Earth. (They are not the tallest, though they are tall, but are the largest by volume.) Giant SEQUOIAS are native to the western slopes of the Sierra Nevada mountains in California. Mariposa Grove is the largest grove of Giant SEQUOIAS in Yosemite National Park. Another good place to view SEQUOIAS is in SEQUOIA National Park. Both Yosemite National Park and SEQUOIA National Park are located in California. KILL TIME (39D: Solve a crossword while waiting around, perhaps) Solving a crossword is an excellent way to KILL TIME, I'd say. USHER (52D: 2024 Super Bowl halftime headliner) USHER released his self-titled debut album in 1994 when he was 15 years old. In 2024, USHER headlined the halftime show for Super Bowl LVIII. On the same day he performed at the Super Bowl, USHER released his ninth studio album, Coming Home. NPC (61D: Uncontrollable video game figure (Abbr.)) NPC here stands for "non-player character." NPCs are having a moment in the crossword sun, as yesterday we saw NPCS clued as [They may bestow quests in video games (Abbr.)]. A few other clues I especially enjoyed: TACKLE (25A: Football move or position) LIFTOFF (46A: Word after a NASA countdown) LATTE ART (38D: Pictures made by baristas) SKINNY-DIP (17A: Swim in one's birthday suit) SLIM PICKINGS (37A: What a rummaged-through rummage sale has left over) THIN MINTS (60A: Top-selling Girl Scout cookie variety) NARROW OPENINGS: The OPENING word of each theme answer is a synonym for NARROW: SKINNY, SLIM, and THIN. I am a fan of synonym themes, and this is a fun one. It's particularly nice that these synonyms of NARROW have meanings other than NARROW in the theme answers. I appreciated learning, from his constructor's notes, which entries Marshal was especially excited about. Thank you, Marshal, for this enjoyable puzzle.
