Some people believe that eating certain foods, including soy protein and certain kinds of grains, may benefit people with an A-positive blood type.
The concept of blood-type diets was originally put forth by the naturopathic physician Dr. James L. D'Adamo.
His son, Dr. Peter J. D'Adamo, popularized the diet in his book, ' Eat Right 4 Your Type.' He claims that differing blood types evolved at various points in our genetic history and that your blood type should determine what you eat and how you exercise.
Blood type diets are a system of eating that categorizes foods as beneficial, neutral, or harmful. It's based on a person's blood type and other factors.
D'Adamo claims foods harmful to your blood type cause an agglutination reaction. This makes blood cells stick together, increasing the risk of disease.

Eating foods based on blood type
The blood type diet requires a regimen called compliance. This refers to eating 'beneficials.' Beneficials are chosen for each blood type, based upon the lectins, or molecules, which the food contains.
On this diet, people are defined as being 'secretors' or 'nonsecretors.' These terms refer to an individual's ability to secrete blood-type antigens into bodily fluids. What you eat is partly based upon your secretor status. This is why the diet is known as an individualized plan.
Food ratios are also provided for each blood type group. These are further broken down into ratios specifically recommended for people of African, Caucasian, and Asian descent. Supplements are recommended for blood-type diets, which are sold on D'Adamo's website.
Theoretic origins of blood types
According to Dr. D'Adamo, the A-positive blood type became prevalent during the early years of the agricultural age. He theorizes this is why people with this blood type can readily digest vegetables and carbohydrates, but have a difficult time digesting animal protein and fat.
The A-positive blood type diet is primarily vegetarian. D'Adamo believes people with this blood type have less-than-robust immune systems and are prone to anxiety. His diet plan promises:

better digestion
As with any diet, people may try this plan in order to lose weight or for other health benefits. Weight loss and lowered cholesterol have been reported by people who have tried this diet. However, there's no evidence the theory underlying this diet caused these results.

What diet is best for people with A+ blood type?

walnuts, pumpkin seeds, and peanuts

Does the blood type diet work?
Medical conditions which D'Adamo states are associated with this blood type include:
cancer
diabetes
anxiety disorders
cardiovascular disease
However, there's no scientific evidence that the blood-type diet works or that it alleviates any specific health conditions.
For instance, a 2021 study found that among 68 subjects who ate a low-fat, vegan diet, those who had type A blood did not experience any additional health benefits compared to those with other blood types.
Another 2018 study found that no type of blood has any effect on the association between following one of the blood-type diets and the chance of developing heart disease in overweight adults.
One older 2014 study found that adherence to the A-positive blood type diet might yield benefits, such as:
reduced body mass index (BMI)

lower waist circumference
However, these benefits weren't seen to be influenced by, or associated with, study participants' blood types.

'Alien: Earth' Is Surprisingly Cinematic, a Bit Gross and a Whole Lot of Awesome

If you ask me, it's a great time to be an Alien fan. Last year's Alien: Romulus offered a fun, nostalgic taste of what made the Alien movies so iconic. It was the perfect appetizer for what's coming next. Of course, I am speaking about Alien: Earth. It's been about five years since FX officially announced the Noah Hawley project and, now, with the show just days away from premiering (the first two episodes drop on Tuesday, Aug. 12, on Hulu, FX and Disney Plus), I am here to squash your worries. Alien: Earth is good. In fact, it's pretty epic. Heck, I'd go so far as to say it's the best Alien story I've seen since James Cameron put Sigourney Weaver in a power loader back in 1986. Needless to say, I have a lot to say about the eight episodes I've seen -- and I'm going to do so as spoiler-free as possible. Still, if you want to avoid any details about the show, I advise you to tread lightly. The year is 2120, just two years before Ellen Ripley's (Weaver) fight for survival takes place on the Nostromo. In this world, five tech corporations govern the people: Prodigy, Weyland-Yutani, Lynch, Dynamic and Threshold. Up until now, we've only heard of Weyland-Yutani. Adding the other companies to the mix and exploring their political conflicts and fight for power opens up the story and broadens things a bit from the usual monster-versus-innocent-crew-members formula we've come to expect from an Alien story. The Xenomorph is still very much the focal point of the series, don't get me wrong. However, Alien: Earth introduces a few new concepts to the mix: Cyborgs (humans augmented with machine parts), hybrids (synthetic bodies controlled by human consciousness) and a collection of insidious space insects that add new horrors besides the face-hugging variety. You can't really replicate the initial shock that audiences felt after watching Alien for the first time. Sure, a chest-bursting sequence in an Alien movie can be unsettling to watch. But these gruesome scenes are expected and have become formulaic. Hawley knows this and that's why he and his team brought an assortment of creepy-crawlies to the mix. The result is gross and gory; the inclusion of these space bugs delivers a collection of body horror sequences that left me, more than once, shouting in disgust at the TV. That's high praise coming from me. Building an original world such as this is only as enthralling as the characters who populate it and the talent slate really delivers the emotional stakes on all accounts. While Timothy Olyphant is the biggest name on the call sheet, each of the main players -- Sydney Chandler (who plays Wendy), Alex Lawther (who plays Hermit), Samuel Blenkin (who plays Boy Kavalier) and Babou Ceesay (who plays Morrow) -- delivers tenfold. Audiences have never seen Olyphant play a character like the synthetic Kirsh. He's enigmatic in his stillness and leaves you regularly guessing whose side he is on. As wonderful as he is, it's Chandler who carries the show. Wendy is the emotional entry point for the audience and probably the most complex of all the characters. She is also an advanced synthetic human infused with the consciousness of a child. Her youthful discovery of the world around her bumps up against her newfound responsibility to Prodigy, the company in charge of her synth existence. She strives to reconcile her human identity of the past while trying to make sense of her technological one of the present. Yeesh, talk about an identity crisis. The Alien franchise has regularly pondered whether humanity deserves to survive. The series asks the same question, whether it's in the face of the alien invaders or the corporatations bending the understanding of what it even means to be human. Transhumanism, mortality, corporate control and the perils of unchecked technological advancements are some of the heady themes explored here. As big as some of these creative swings get, you shouldn't worry: aliens are still killing people. The more things change, the more they stay the same. Stylistically, Alien: Earth regularly references the first two Alien movies. That said, there is ample room to create something new and explore uncharted ground in the process. And the show does just that. The result is a program that is grand in scope, and while familiar visuals and aesthetics are featured throughout, Alien: Earth is delightfully different. This brings me to the Xenomorph. I'm not sure how practical the effects are in reference to the iconic creature (it's clear in some scenes that there's a person inside of a costume), but there are shots featured throughout the show that present the monster in a unique perspective, unlike anything I've seen before. And instead of waiting multiple episodes before the big bad is revealed, it's set loose in the pilot episode. Through his TV work with Fargo and Legion, Noah Hawley has established a tone and flavor for his projects, and that offbeat energy can most definitely be found here. His fingerprints are all over this show (he even makes an on-screen cameo), and this is mostly a good thing. That said, if I were to really nitpick, it'd be the slow-burn pacing featured throughout the season that I'd take issue with. Still, that's a minor flaw to me, which is totally made up for with every banging needle drop that closes out each episode. It's probably evident that I am a huge Alien fan. I get the references and smile every time I see a style note or referential homage. That said, the show is surprisingly low on Easter eggs, which is great. It respects and honors what came before it without getting lost in the minutiae. Alien: Earth has equal appeal to newbies who have never seen an Alien movie and die-hard franchise fanatics like myself. I can honestly say this series is unlike anything I've seen in the Alien universe. It's familiar while also being new; it's different without being destructive to the lore. Alien fans have trudged through one disappointing movie after another to get here. Alien: Earth is a win, and I'm ecstatic. You could even say my chest is bursting with joy. Does Being a "Boy Mom" Shorten Your Life?

The research behind whether parents of boys actually have shorter lifespans, worse health, and age faster Most of the content for parents of sons on social media seems to be very negative, especially the content for 'boy moms.' As a mother to two boys myself, I find some of this content sweet and relatable, but a lot of it is, frankly, obnoxious and verging on toxic. Recently I have seen posts circulating on social media claiming that boy moms don't live as long and age faster than girl moms. My initial response to these posts was annoyance at yet another negative message being spread about being a parent to boys. However, when I dug into the research, I was surprised to find that there may be some truth to this claim— but it's more complicated than you may think. Main Research Findings Research consistently finds that having sons is linked to a shorter lifespan and worse health in mothers. One study found that a mother's risk of death per year increased by 7% for each son that they had (two sons would mean a 14% increase, 3 sons a 21% increase, etc.). A previous study conducted by the same authors found that, for every son a woman had, their lifespan decreased by 34 weeks while daughters were associated with a slightly increased lifespan (although this was not statistically significant). Interestingly fathers may not experience the same decrease in lifespan. Another study found that mothers reported worse health in old age with each son they had. Specifically, mothers had an 11% increased odds of reporting poor health in old age with each son that they had. Finally, a recent study found that parents of sons (both mothers and fathers) showed faster cognitive decline in old age. Why Might This Be? One theory that researchers have is that sons take more of a toll on a mother's body (aka the expensive son hypothesis). The idea is that pregnancy, birth, and lactation of sons depletes maternal reserves more than daughters do and therefore the mother's health may be negatively impacted. Supporting this idea, research finds that boys require more energy during pregnancy and lactation than girls. Research also finds that having sons may increase inflammation that contributes to degenerative diseases. In particular, research finds that having boys increases the risk for cardiovascular disease in mothers. There may also be social factors at play, in addition to biological factors. For example, grandmothers are more involved in the care of their daughter's children than their son's children and being more involved in child care is linked to better health in old age. Daughters are also more likely than sons to provide care to their elderly parents, so parents of daughters may get better quality care in old age which could result in a longer lifespan and better health in old age. However, there is no research finding that this association is caused by boys being more challenging or stressful than girls, as social media would suggest. Why Parents of Boys Shouldn't Be Too Worried This research is all correlational so we cannot definitively say that having boys actually causes a shorter lifespan and more health problems. It may be that an underlying factor makes a person more likely to have a boy and more likely to have health problems. For example, higher levels of testosterone may make you more likely to have a boy and more likely to have health problems (and of course not all boy moms have higher levels of testosterone). Some Positivity for Parents of Boys As I said at the beginning of this article, I hate the negativity around being a 'boy mom' or a parent of boys more generally. Although I always strive to accurately report the research, I do not want to further this narrative. Of course, on a personal level, I can say that I love so many aspects of being a mother to my boys and even if they do shorten my lifespan, they more than make up for it in all of the joy they bring to my life. But what about the research? Does research find any benefits of being a parent to boys? Unfortunately, the research on this topic is limited but we do have some evidence for positive outcomes associated with having boys. Mothers who only have sons are the most likely to report the highest level of happiness in their marriage and there is some evidence that parents with sons may be less likely to divorce. The birth of a son may also be linked to an easier transition to being parents than the birth of a daughter. A reason for all of this may be that fathers are more involved in caring for sons than daughters. Fathers of sons also make more money than fathers of daughters. Research does find that girls show higher levels of positive emotions, and boys show higher activity levels and lower fear on average. The people who are negative about being a parent to boys may frame these personality traits as burdens or stressors, but an active and brave child can also be a lot of fun! In addition, although pregnancies with boys may be harder on your body, mothers pregnant with boys may show better working memory and spatial skills than mothers pregnant with girls. The myth of morning sickness being worse when pregnant with girls is also true— women pregnant with boys show less severe nausea and vomiting during pregnancy. You may have also heard that sons are more likely to grow distant from their mothers in adulthood but fear not because research finds that unmarried sons are the most likely group to live with their mother in adulthood! Overall Translation There is some evidence that being a parent to boys is linked to a slightly shorter lifespan, an increased risk for health problems, and faster aging. While it is not completely clear why these associations occur, researchers speculate that sons may take more out of the mother during pregnancy and lactation and that sons may have different relationships with their parents in old age. However, the most important point here is that these statistics are based on averages and have no predictive power for your life. This topic is a great example of how research typically only informs us about what is most likely to happen based on averages and not what will happen in your life. Just because the average mother of boys has a shorter lifespan does not mean that you will (or your partner will) die younger and just because daughters are more likely to provide care for elderly parents does not mean that you son won't step up and be an incredible caretaker for you in old age.
