Lebanese Foreign Minister Youssef Rajai affirmed that 'the monopolizing the arms by the state is a historic decision by the government, and we have asked US envoy Tom Barrack to take a corresponding Israeli step.'
Raji said :
'We have gone through decades of occupation and domination by factions that have no connection to Lebanon,' adding, 'There is no going back regarding the monopoly of arms decision.'
Raji confirmed that 'the army will present its plan for disarming Hezbollah in September, and may request an additional two weeks to present its final plan.'
Commenting on the visit of an Iranian official he said: 'I did not meet with Iranian official Ali Larijani because of his leaders' attacks on Lebanon, and I do not accept Iran arming a party outside the state.'
Raji revealed that 'we have repeatedly informed the Iranians of our rejection of interference in our affairs. We have no problem in expressing their opinion, but we reject their of the rebellion against the state.'
Raji emphasized that 'the Shiite sect is a hostage of Hezbollah, which exploits it, and whoever speaks of a civil war has the intention of igniting it.'
He was referring to a recent speech by Hezbollah chief Naim Qassem who threatened to ignite a civil war in Lebanon if the. army disarms it
The Shiites of Lebanon suffered the most in Hezbollah's wars with Israel .
Lebanon is currently seeking to establish state control over all arms, but does not yet have a monopoly, due to the presence of non-state actors like
Hezbollah
whose allegiance is to Iran. Since 1982 Iran has been funding , training and arming Hezbollah for the purpose of increasing its influence in the region.
In 2008 Hezbollah pointed its arms against the Lebanese people and there is a great concern , it may do it again

Israel weighs multiple Lebanon escalation scenarios as it seeks regional control — the details

Report by Amal Shehadeh, English adaptation by Karine Keuchkerian Israel is reportedly considering several scenarios in which Lebanon could be on the verge of a second civil war or a major conflict between President Joseph Aoun and Hezbollah, potentially putting Aoun's life at risk. These scenarios were discussed by Israeli Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer in Paris with U.S. envoy Tom Barrack, during talks that also included Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Shaibani. The discussions focused on the Syrian file and ways to stabilize the entire northern front, covering both Syria and Lebanon. On the Lebanese front, Tel Aviv insists on maintaining a prolonged presence in the positions it occupies and has so far delayed allowing residents in northern areas to return to their homes. Among the scenarios being considered in Israel is the possibility of an internal Lebanese security incident escalating to the point of foreign intervention, including the deployment of international forces to Lebanon. Some Israeli security officials are calling for a strategy aimed at dismantling Hezbollah's arsenal and reducing Iran's influence in Lebanon. As Israel is determined to maintain a presence in Lebanon, it also seeks to remain in Syria. Across Lebanon, Syria, and the Gaza Strip, it has become clear that Israel is pursuing a deterrent capability that allows it to exercise security control over these areas, advancing plans for a 'new Middle East' in which the Israeli state holds dominant security authority.

Hamas attack of unprecedented scale against Israeli troops

The Israeli military said it killed 10 Hamas militants in Gaza on Wednesday while repelling an attack by the armed wing of the group, which claimed it killed several Israeli soldiers. Israeli media reported that such an attack on troops inside the Gaza Strip was highly unusual since the start of the war, which began in October 2023. "Today, at around 9 a.m., over 15 terrorists emerged out of several tunnel shafts adjacent to the 90th battalion post in southern Khan Yunis," the Israeli military said in a statement. The militants "carried out a combined gunfire and anti-tank missile attack towards the post, with several terrorists infiltrating it and getting eliminated in face-to-face combat and aerial support strikes," it added. "The troops, in coordination with the [Israeli air force], eliminated 10 terrorists during face-to-face combat and airstrikes," it said, adding that eight other militants fled back into the tunnel. The military said that one soldier was severely injured and two others lightly injured in the assault, while Hamas's armed wing, the Ezzedine Al-Qassam Brigades, said in a statement that its fighters "this morning (...) carried out a raid on a newly established enemy position southeast of Khan Yunis." "Our fighters stormed the site and targeted several guard tanks... our fighters also targeted several houses in which [Israeli] soldiers were fortified," it added. "A number of our fighters stormed the houses and finished off several soldiers inside from point-blank range with light weapons and hand grenades," it said, claiming to have also killed a tank commander. "As soon as the rescue forces arrived, one of the Qassam fighters detonated himself among the soldiers, leaving them dead and wounded," the statement added. It did not mention any casualties amongst its fighters.

Lebanon asserts state authority: FM vows centralized weapons, rejects civil war threats

Lebanon is witnessing a 'major political transformation,' with state institutions regaining their roles after years of inactivity, Foreign Minister Youssef Rajji said in an interview with Al Arabiya and Al Hadath. He noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has resumed its active role regionally and internationally after years of absence caused by 'wrong policies.' Rajji highlighted that the current government made a historic decision to centralize all weapons under state authority. The Lebanese army has been tasked with preparing a comprehensive implementation plan, which will be presented to the cabinet on September 2. He emphasized that minor technical delays of a week or two are acceptable, but open-ended postponements are not. Regarding U.S. envoy Tom Barrack's visit, Rajji said Washington proposed a comprehensive plan covering withdrawals, reconstruction, and weapons exclusivity. Lebanon provided feedback, and a shared framework was agreed upon, with an emphasis on Israel's commitment to good-faith measures, including returning occupied territories and releasing detainees. On Iranian visits, Rajji stressed that all such trips are coordinated with Lebanese authorities, saying that Lebanon seeks good relations with all countries, provided its sovereignty is respected. He underscored that centralizing weapons is an internal Lebanese demand, not tied to foreign agendas, and called for 'a normal state governed by official institutions, not militias.' On threats of civil war, he said: 'Civil war occurs when some rebel against the state, not when the state asserts its authority.' Regionally, Rajji confirmed ongoing coordination with Syria based on mutual respect and expressed optimism about warming ties with Gulf countries, particularly Saudi Arabia. He added that Lebanon has moved away from divisive regional alliances and urged domestic actors to support the state.
