No arrests made after Morgantown Police use smoke, PepperBalls to disperse party
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (WBOY) — After a video went viral over the weekend of Morgantown Police appearing to use tear gas on a large crowd celebrating St. Patrick's Day, officers say that no arrests have been made and that nobody was taken to the hospital.
On Saturday, March 8 at around 2:40 p.m., Morgantown Police officers responded to a residence on North High Street, a location commonly known to house fraternities, after receiving reports of a 'large party with loud music' which was creating 'noise violations.'

When officers arrived at the scene, they said they told the person operating the music to turn it off to comply with noise regulations. The music was turned off, but once it was, officers said that the crowd 'became aggressive' and began throwing things at them.
At that point, 'in an effort to regain control of the area' officers began to use 'standard crowd dispersal techniques' such as inert smoke and PepperBalls—which are non-lethal projectiles that disperse a chemical similar to the kind found in pepper spray.
Once 'order was restored in the area,' officers evaluated bystanders to see if any needed EMS, but none did. No arrests were made at the scene, but officers are investigating the incident to further determine 'if any additional enforcement actions should be taken.'
WVU officials also told 12 News that multiple citations were issued against students on Saturday in off-campus areas, including six for open container violations and two for noise violations.
The Morgantown Police Department was assisted by teams with the University Police Department.
This story has been updated to include additional information from WVU officials.

‘I never assaulted nobody': Former WVU player speaks following weekend arrest
COVINGTON, Ky. (WBOY) — Days after Adam 'Pacman' Jones was arrested in a Cincinnati suburb on charges including assaulting a police officer, the former WVU player issued a statement claiming the accusations are false. In a clip from 'Politely Raw! The Pacman Jones Show,' which Jones posted to his Instragram page Monday, the former Mountaineer refuted a police report, which claimed that he, while handcuffed, 'intentionally threw his elbow upwards and struck an officer in the bottom lip, causing inside of lip to bleed,' as read during the show by his co-host. Men arrested after multi-county pursuit believed to be members of Pagan Motorcycle Club Jones said the assault charge stemmed from him doing 'this,' which he said while demonstrating a light shoving motion. Jones also said he thinks he 'has a real lawsuit here,' but added that 'the people in the jail treated me unbelievable good.' 'Them people that was in there, they treated me how they treated everybody else,' Jones said. Jones is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday at 8 a.m. Copyright 2025 Nexstar Media, Inc.
