'So appreciated': Why fans are praising Karl Stefanovic for his bizarre dance floor act with Bob Katter

Sky News AU4 days ago
Karl Stefanovic has been spotted busting a move with Bob Katter in a hilarious dance floor act at a charity gala.
The Today host, 50, took to Instagram on Monday to share a clip of himself exuberantly dancing beside the Independent MP at the black tie event for Liam's Life Saving List and appeared to mock Mr Katter's moves.
Liam's Life Saving List aims to raise awareness about blood stem cell donation for North Queensland father-of-two Liam O'Brien, who died in June 2024 following a two-year battle against a rare form of leukemia.
In the clip, Stefanovic and Mr Katter, who was Liam's uncle, boogied without a care, while other guests watched the pair in amusement.
The independent MP for the north Queensland seat of Kennedy punched into the air in what the Today host called "Bob's famous upper cut dance".
Stefanovic then hilariously pouted while pointing with both hands, even dropping low at one point and gyrating his hips from side to side.
"Raising a lot of money for Liam's Lifesaving List gala was extraordinary," the TV personality wrote in the caption.
"Liam would be so proud. You are making a difference."
Fans flocked to the comments to champion Karl's fun-loving personality, with one person writing: "Love you Karl, you are such a larrikin".
"Looks fabulous. Good on you guys," another person wrote.
"Gold! Good on you both," a third person said.
Another fan wrote: "You did a cracking job, Karlos!", while one more added: "Sensational, Karl. Your charity work is sooo appreciated".
Karl and Mr Katter have enjoyed a friendship for more than a decade, with the Today host describing the firebrand politician as "massively nutty" in a 60 Minutes clip in 2013 while Stefanovic was a reporter for the show.
"The guy is a loose cannon," the host said of his pal.
"That's the thing about him that is also endearing, and so he wears these clothes, and he's got this big hat, and that's part of Bob Katter's persona, and that's certainly the part of his personality that he likes to project."
Karl's latest appearance with Mr Katter comes as the Today host continues amusing fans with his hilarious ways, recently showcasing his nighttime beauty routine and showing off his ripped physique at the gym.
He has been open about his weight loss journey, having once tipped the scales at 105kg in 2020, as his billionaire pal James Packer urged him to hit the gym following unflattering photos of the star at his heaviest.

Woman slams 'tripod parents' as she details moment mother 'pretended' to have fun with daughter at beach just for content

A growing number of parents are filming their children purely for social media content, leading critics to call out the rise of 'tripod parenting' where capturing the perfect post comes before the child's experience. The term tripod parent has been adopted online to describe mums and dads who bring tripods to playgrounds, parks and beaches, directing their kids through planned scenes for Instagram or TikTok. Observers say it turns family time into staged performances with real moments paused for the perfect shot. It's part of a larger trend known as sharenting, where children are heavily featured on family social media pages, often without understanding or consent. Critics argue this can damage a child's sense of self and privacy, with some calling it modern-day exploitation. Experts are urging caution, while some parents defend the practice as harmless memory keeping or part of their job as influencers. In a TikTok video, a woman named Ashley reveals how parents chasing viral fame stop playtime to film their children for social media and recounts a story she had at the beach watching an example of a tripod parent doing everything for fame. She revealed that while at the beach, she witnessed a young girl building a sandcastle with her mother, only for the mum to knock it down after being dissatisfied with the footage she had captured. Ashley showed visible frustration and disbelief as she described what she witnessed. "She knocks over the sandcastle and the kid says 'mum', but the kid also isn't frustrated. It looks like it happened before. "Then the whole time she's on the phone, probably editing the video while the kid is calling mum let's play, let's play..." Ashley also noted the mother was only engaged when the camera was on and as soon as the tripod was packed away, the child was left to play alone while the mother scrolled on her phone and began editing the video recording for her social media platform. She then concluded, " You basically took your daughter to the beach for views!" "I can't stop thinking about it, now I'm mad again" "It's one thing to have to pretend your life but it's another thing to have to pretend life and use your children for views." The video has since gone viral and fuelled a wider debate around parents using their children for online fame. Several countries including the US have started introducing laws to address this issue while child protection advocates warn of lasting psychological impacts. Commentators say the need for validation through likes, followers and paid content has replaced real connection, moments like building a sandcastle or learning to ride a bike are now being produced for audience and money. The shift from naturalness to staged perfection has some asking what kind of childhood is being created for the camera.

Hulk Hogan's former best friend blasts late wrestler's wife

Hulk Hogan's former best friend has blasted the late wrestler's wife and friends following his death. The 71-year-old wrestling icon passed away in Florida on Thursday (24.07.25) after paramedics were called to his home for a medical emergency and Hulk's former friend, Bubba the Love Sponge, has claimed Hogan's wife Sky Daily and some of his other friends hid the truth about his health issues. Bubba – who fell out with Hogan after a sex tape between Hogan and Bubba's then wife Heather was leaked in 2012 – said on his eponymous radio show: 'I can't take away from what I've already said, and what I've already correctly predicted. But I am officially the guy that was the only one telling the truth about Hogan's physical condition. 'And that has caused some people to say, 'You know what, Bubba was right.' - No, I wish to God I wasn't right, because being right means we have a dead Hulk Hogan. 'I don't know if my telling the truth would be such a big deal if the people like his wife [Sky Daily], Brian Blair, Jimmy Hart, Eric Bischoff, Missy Beefcake and all the other keyboard tough guys were [calling me out]. Since mid-June, Bubba had been reporting that the late star was seriously ill and had spent six weeks in the ICU. A representative for Hogan, along with Bischoff and Daily, denied Bubba's report. Hogan had been in and out of hospital in the months before his death. In June, he underwent a four-level Anterior Cervical Discectomy and Fusion – a complex neck surgery. Sky told fans on Instagram at the time he was recovering from the 'intense surgery with a long and layered healing process'. She said the operation had also affected his vocal cords and required breathing and feeding tubes. Sky added: 'He's healing and we're taking it one day at a time with love, strength, and patience." Speaking about his regret over their rift, Bubba told TMZ: 'I'm heartbroken to hear of Terry's passing. As everyone knows we had our issues and those issues were mostly my fault. I loved him as a friend while he was with us, and will continue to love his memory as a friend going forward."

Where to get Perth's best pies

Leederville One minute you're going about your business not aware there is something fundamental missing in your life, and then a new pie shop opens in Leederville and you think: 'Finally, the missing puzzle piece of my existence on this mortal plane has been discovered.' At least, that's the experience of almost everyone who has stumbled upon this bougie pie shop, that claims to be a homage to the classic country pie shop but with a lot of millennial green. With flavours like chicken cordon bleu and tofu kimchi-jjigae, these guys are not scared to try new things, and we are big fans. Applecross, Cockburn, Claremont These guys boldly claim to have the best pies in Perth. They have some stiff competition but also, they may just have legitimate claim to the title. While they might have a more limited selection than some other spots on this list — they only offer eight flavours — they do what they do very well, and as a butcher, their meats are topnotch. They also boast excellent sausage rolls. Wangara, Westminster, Bullsbrook JD Pies and Tacos. Seafood Boil Pie. Credit: Instagram This is a bit of a hidden gem, but those in the know will attest to this spot in the Wanneroo Markets (with stores in Westminster and Bullsbrook) being among the best in Perth. These guys are not afraid to experiment, and their pies often have an American flavour profile. A recent special was a seafood boil pie in a cajun butter sauce. They also do mashups like chunky beef with macaroni cheese and even a few sweet pies for dessert. Mmmm dessert pies. Lathlain, Shenton Park These guys bake pies fresh daily with elite level flakey pasty to munch your way through. Also, being a bakery there are plenty of sweet treats on offer to really round out your cheeky lunch. East Fremantle Georgee Pies Credit: Instagram Can't decide if you want a classic Aussie pie or a nasi goreng? At this George Street gem you can get the former inside the latter. It really is the best of both worlds. They do other unconventional flavours — think red Thai curry or butter mango chicken — but they also do a solid line in the classics. The queues down the street attest to the popularity of these pies. Get in early before they sell-out.
