Army chief General Upendra Dwivedi visited Pargwal sector of Akhnoor and reviewed operational preparedness on Friday, officials said. He also met BSF Assistant Commandant Neha Bhandari and her team for defending forward posts in the Akhnoor sector during the Pakistan conflict.
'General Upendra Dwivedi reviewed operational preparedness in J&K's Pargwal sector and visited the Tiger Division where he commended troops for their outstanding performance in Operation Sindoor . He stressed the importance of staying agile and vigilant in response to evolving security dynamics,' said a defence spokesperson.
The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) also praised BSF's close operational integration with the army and lauded the bravery of Bhandari and her team for defending forward posts in the Akhnoor sector, he added.
He also praised the paramilitary force and ex-servicemen for their role during Operation Sindoor, the army said. The army chief had reached Jammu on a two-day visit on Thursday and attended the high-level security review meeting chaired by home minister Amit Shah.
Commanding a border outpost within eyeball-to-eyeball contact of a Pakistani post along the international border, the assistant commandant led her troops to silence three forward hostile posts across the zero line (the area closest to enemy territory) by giving a befitting reply.
Bhandari got a commendation disc from the army chief, the Jammu BSF stated on X.
Apart from Neha, six women constables held gun positions at a forward border post, rising with every bullet they fired at the enemy positions across the international border in the Samba, RS Pura and Akhnoor sectors.
Neha, a third-generation officer from her family in Uttarakhand, takes pride in being part of the BSF and commanding a border outpost in the Pargwal forward area of the Akhnoor sector in the Jammu district during Operation Sindoor.
'I feel proud to be manning a post along the International Border with my troops. It is approximately 150 meters away from the Pakistani post in the Akhnoor–Pargwal area,' she said. (With PTI inputs)

Egyptian Senate affirms solidarity with India in fight against terrorism

The high-level multi-party delegation from India, led by Nationalist Congress Party (NCP-SP) Supriya Sule, on Monday held a fruitful engagement with the distinguished members of the Egyptian Senate, conveying India's firm and principled position against terrorism. The delegates met Senator Hossam Al-Khouly of Mostaqbal Watan Party, Chairman of Foreign Affairs Committee Hazem Omar and Chairmen and members of other Parliamentary Committees. The Senate reaffirmed solidarity with India and reiterated importance attached to the close strategic partnership between India and Egypt. The delegation carrying forth India's strong message on zero-tolerance against terrorism as part of India's diplomatic outreach on Operation Sindoor was received by Indian Ambassador to Egypt Suresh Reddy on their arrival in the Middle Eastern country. The delegates have a packed and productive schedule in Egypt, including ministerial engagements, parliamentary exchanges, interactions with think tanks, media, Indian community, and others. The all-party delegation led by Sule also includes BJP leaders Rajiv Pratap Rudy, Anurag Thakur, and V. Muraleedharan, Congress leaders Manish Tewari and Anand Sharma, Telugu Desam Party's Lavu Sri Krishna Devarayalu, Aam Aadmi Party leader Vikramjeet Singh Sawhney, and former diplomat Syed Akbaruddin. "The delegation will engage in dialogue with the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs (ECFA). They are also scheduled to meet with Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt. The delegation will also hold talks with Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary General of the League of Arab States," read a statement issued by the Indian Embassy in Cairo. "The programme includes a floral tribute at the bust of Mahatma Gandhi at El-Horreya Park, visit to the Heliopolis War Memorial, and interactions with members of the Indian community in Egypt, policy makers, including senior editors, scholars, and strategic thinkers. The visit reflects India's commitment to strengthening cooperation with Egypt and the Arab world in combating terrorism and advancing shared global values," the statement added. Earlier on Sunday evening, the delegation concluded a successful visit to Ethiopia, where they held rich, intense and fruitful interactions with Ethiopian dignitaries, members of media, academia, civil society, think-tanks as well as the Indian community in Ethiopia. They conveyed in one voice India's zero-tolerance policy towards cross-border terrorism and briefed about developments since the heinous terror attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir on April 22. The delegation shared that Operation Sindoor, conducted by India in response, was calibrated, targetted and proportionate, demonstrating India's commitment to countering terrorism without escalating tensions. "The delegation emphasised the need to recognise the fact that identifying and firmly dealing with all kinds of terrorists, its perpetrators, supporters, promoters including those who give moral support is the need of hour; working on these lines, India has started dismantling the cross-border terrorism infrastructure, developed and used against India for several decades," said Indian Embassy in Addis Ababa. "The Ethiopian side emphasised its own zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and stressed that terrorism must be condemned. The delegation appreciated the solidarity shown by the Ethiopian leadership in the aftermath of the Pahalgam attack and thanked them for the support," it added. Addressing the Indian community in Ethiopia, the delegation members commended them for upholding the values of tolerance, pluralism, and unity, and for resisting divisive efforts aimed at destabilising India's social fabric. A large number of Ethiopian nationals who studied in India and now hold important positions in public life expressed their solidarity with India and supported the counter-terrorism measures. The visit of the Indian delegation to Egypt marks a continuation of India's strategic outreach to garner international support against cross-border terrorism emanating from the soil of Pakistan.

PM to chair meeting of Council of Ministers; first after Operation Sindoor

Prime Minister Narendra Modi will chair a meeting of the Union Council of Ministers on Wednesday, the first after India's punitive military action against Pakistan under Operation Sindoor launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack. Sources said the ministers are likely to be given details of the operation, which is also expected to figure in the ruling BJP's programmes starting next week to mark the first anniversary of the Modi government in its third term. Besides speaking on Operation Sindoor, the prime minister may give an overall highlight of his governance thrust in the council meeting as the ministers prepare to communicate with people across the country during the anniversary events. India's precise strikes on nine terror sites in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir followed by its counterattack on the neighbouring country's military facilities, especially air bases, have been a highlight of Modi's recent speeches. He has affirmed that Operation Sindoor has marked India's "new normal" in punishing terror acts linked to Pakistan and vowed to go after terrorists and their sponsors with equal ferocity in case of any future terror incidents on the Indian soil. The Council of Ministers, which generally meets in a few months but has no fixed frequency, unlike the Union Cabinet's, and key government policies are discussed threadbare in the presence of top bureaucrats. On April 22, terrorists shot down 26 civilians in the popular Kashmir destination, igniting nationwide outrage and calls for retribution.

BJP MP Samik Bhattacharya gives 'India was never poor' reality check in London: ‘How much more will you loot?'

NEW DELHI: BJP MP Samik Bhattacharya part of a high-level Indian parliamentary delegation visiting London made a pointed intervention on India's historical wealth and colonial exploitation, saying that 'many people looted us and built mansions for themselves, how much more will you loot?' India was never poor, India was never struggling. Our country has been attacked by numerous groups spanning centuries, yet India stood out as a strong, resilient economy.' He also reminded the audience of India's global contributions during the Covid pandemic, adding that with a population of 140 crores, 'India sent medicine and supplies to over 70 countries.' 'Countries change their stance to sell ammunition; they preach to us about dialogues. They say everything can be sorted out by interaction,' he said. We are here to alert all that what is happening with us will happen to you tomorrow.' Bhattacharya also said that India's firm stance on terrorism has received positive responses from British think tanks, especially regarding the misuse of international funds by Pakistan. 'Our demand is Pakistan needs to be isolated diplomatically,' he said. Praising global recognition of Narendra Modi's leadership, he added, 'You people are raising the slogan of 'Modi Modi' because PM Modi has become the face of a leader who is fighting against terrorism.'
