PM Anwar chairs 146th Menteri Besar and Chief Ministers meeting
The meeting, held in Putrajaya, aimed to streamline efforts for Malaysia's inclusive progress.
In a Facebook post, Anwar emphasised the meeting's role in strengthening cooperation between federal and state governments.
'Through this synergy, we can ensure the smooth, comprehensive and inclusive implementation of the national development agenda for the well-being of the people and the overall progress of Malaysia,' he said.
Key attendees included Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said, Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Datuk Dr Mohd Na'im Mokhtar, Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo, and Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar.
The discussions focused on aligning state and federal policies to accelerate socio-economic development while addressing regional disparities.

Malaysia's 13MP projects to face strict monitoring for timely completion
PUTRAJAYA: Every project under the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) will undergo regular monitoring to prevent implementation delays, said Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar. The Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Economy will jointly oversee progress, submitting reports twice a year. Shamsul Azri emphasised the importance of timely execution, stating, 'This time, we will really make sure that the 13MP is implemented as planned, because it spans a long period until 2030. 'All approved projects must be implemented promptly, because any delay will cause disappointment among the people.' He added that he would personally conduct site visits and surprise inspections. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim highlighted enhanced monitoring through the Policy Implementation Plan Monitoring System (PPD) during the 13MP tabling. Infrastructure projects, including flood mitigation and affordable housing, will be prioritised. A RM20 billion allocation will fund 103 flood mitigation projects, while one million affordable homes are targeted from 2026 to 2035. Shamsul Azri also commended the 12,000 participants of the MAPPA XX 2025 Run, promoting an active lifestyle. Ramasamy: US tariff reductions or strategic retreat? Malaysia's Boeing deal raises alarming questions
TRADE, Investment and Industry Minister Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Aziz proudly claimed that Malaysia did not cross any 'red lines' in negotiating the recent reduction of US reciprocal tariffs from 25% to 19%. Together with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, he painted a picture of tough, principled bargaining that delivered results without compromising national interests. However, this narrative quickly unravelled. In the same breath, Tengku Zafrul admitted that one of the conditions for the tariff reduction was Malaysia's agreement to purchase 30 Boeing planes valued at US$9.5 bil (RM40.63 bil) for the Malaysian Aviation Group (MAG). The order – placed as early as March this year – includes 18 Boeing 737-8 and 12 Boeing 737-10 planes. It is not only Malaysia that has been pushed into such purchases. Other countries that received tariff relief from the US have reportedly made similar orders. Still, it is deeply troubling that Malaysia was effectively coerced into buying Boeing planes just to satisfy Washington's terms. 'No such thing as free lunch' Aircraft procurement should be driven by national interest and value for money. Whether from Boeing in the US or Airbus in France, Malaysia ought to have pursued an open tender process to ensure competitiveness and transparency. Instead, it appears that the deal was dictated more by geopolitics than by sound economics. This situation raises a larger question: what other concessions did Malaysia make in return for the tariff reduction? Anwar's government has presented the tariff cut as a diplomatic victory. But the reality seems to be far more complex – and costly. There is no such thing as a free lunch with the US, especially under President Donald Trump's aggressive 'America First' trade policy. For Malaysia, the price of lower tariffs seems to have been the erosion of sovereign decision-making. This kind of transactional diplomacy reflects a new form of economic imperialism – one where tariffs are wielded as instruments of coercion to secure purchases of American products. In this light, Tengku Zafrul's claim that Malaysia did not cross any red lines rings hollow. Forcing a sovereign country to buy specific goods as a pre-condition for trade concessions is, by any standard, a breach of those red lines. It is time for both Anwar and Tengku Zafrul to come clean. Malaysians deserve to know the full extent of the concessions made in this tariff deal. Transparency is essential if public confidence in the government's foreign and trade policy is to be maintained. The issue here is not merely about trade or tariffs – it is about whether countries like Malaysia can truly chart an independent path in global economic affairs. Or are we destined to dance to the tune of powerful nations under the guise of diplomacy? As a Tamil proverb puts it: there must be a reason why the rat runs naked. Kota Kinabalu: The unity of the diverse races and religions in Sabah is the key to the State's strength and prosperity, said Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. He urged all citizens to continue preserving the harmony enjoyed today as the most valuable legacy for future generations. 'Unity in diversity is Sabah's true strength. It is not a weakness, rather it is a uniqueness that we should be proud of and safeguard,' he said when launching the National Month, Sabah Day and Fly the Flag Campaign 2025 at The Magellan Sutera Resort, here, Friday. The Chief Minister said every individual is responsible for making places like schools, workplaces, business premises, places of worship and digital platforms to strengthen understanding, rather than sowing division. On the progress of Sabah's development, he said the achievements of the Hala Tuju Sabah Maju Jaya (SMJ) 1.0 as of May 2025 showed encouraging success, with an average implementation rate reaching 94 per cent of the 467 initiatives planned. 'Among sectors that continue to be prioritised are agriculture, industry and tourism, along with efforts to enhance human capital, the peoples' wellbeing, infrastructure networks and environmental sustainability,' he said. Hajiji said various forms of assistance have also been provided to the people, including access to education and introducing the Sabah People's Protection Insurance Scheme that offers comprehensive benefits to citizens. He also urged all segments of society to fly the Jalur Gemilang everywhere, as a symbol of loyalty and love for the nation. 'Today's launch is not just a symbolic event, but a call for us to understand the true meaning of independence - not just freedom from colonisation, but also freedom from poverty and division,' he said. The National Day and Sabah Day celebration, held every August, is a historic moment that reminds the people of the struggle of their forefathers in defending the homeland and the dignity of the nation. 'As Malaysians in Sabah, we have a great responsibility to safeguard the blessings of independence and continue this legacy of struggle,' said Hajiji.
